Just did an install on a laptop and that is the error I keep getting.

Anyone got a fix

Downloaded that...don't get the dell error anymore...but client won't load/run.
Gonna try a reinstall and see if that fixes it.

Make sure you are running the client in admin mode.

Reinstalled as administrator, running it as such...I get the patches, etc...then about 15 seconds later it just crashes. Lobby never comes up.

Had that problem. Updated Java, reinstalled the client and so far, no problems... I also a machine in test running 10. so far so good.

Holy crap this is pissing me off....latest java...reinstalled DW...still the same issue....lobby load screen briefly comes up, then it just crashes...

If you have a 64-Bit version of Windows (most likely these days), try installing both 32- and 64-bit versions of Java. It's a trick that's worked for me with other software (not sure I've needed to try it for DW).

Is there anything in the console.log that you can post here, Rev? Assuming it even got as far as that.

BTW if it *did* get as far as that then Java can't be the problem. Only the patcher uses Java, not the main game.

The patcher comes up, then I (very) briefly get the "game client is loading" screen, then it just crashes to the desktop.
On initial install, all the update patches seem to load OK, so it's probably not java.

I am also getting a memory allocation error message,which might be my issue. I looked up a workaround for that, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
There are 2 gigs of ram on this laptop, far more than I had on the desktop I used to play DW on!!!

Have you checked the hardware? Try something like Sisoft Sandra to confirm the memory isn't playing up.

can you try running darkwindClient.exe rather than the patcher?

Well, tried the two launchers....one just does the same thing I've described above, the other tells me the lobby hasn't updated, and firefox brings up the DW help page that says I need to download the C+++ bit, which I have already done.

Still no luck.

I found theres 4 or 5 VCR++ MS libraries to install, which all came with other games I've installed. Always thought it was odd that DW doesn't come with everything you need in the installer.

I'm assuming you also updated graphics drivers, windows updates, and directX

Well, a ton of driver updates later....I actually got the lobby to load. Haven't tried to play yet though, I will try that later when I have some free time
