Just had two encounters where there was the possibility of confusion from these random names (there wasn't, as both were solo encounters).

#1 - A Landy with the name "Flash", with a Flash-chassis also present.

#2 - A Merc going by the name "Arbalest". We already have a build with that name, and it's a damn site more loot-tastic than a renamed Da Vinci!!

I'm just going to throw my 2 cents in (not like it matters much =)

It's a neat feature if it's linked to scout skill, but I think it increases the learning curve.

You can figure out what those cars have but it's annoying and takes time.

It only hurts new players.

Also When someone calls out a target I'm looking around for #### like "WTF is a flop box.... where is it... Okay it's a PU but there are like 5 PUs, great so much blue text now I need to turn that off just to try and find the name... Oh... there it is... buried in that RL explosion"

Granted flags can fix that sort of confusion... but still it's just more work in a game that can already take time to play

How about you turn it off for SS, or reduce the frequency. So new players can learn common builds and vets have an easier time directing new players.

I'm completely on the fence with it too. One solution might be to give each faction a standard name for a chassis.. What raiders call a Chaser is a buttercup to the death race mafia or a mighty sword of Lenin to the reds.

That would prevent quite the level of confusion
or perhaps we should just play it some more as it is and if people still hate it after a few weeks / months change it again.

Yeah, I just had a "fake" Killer Bee too, in Firelight.

I'm still somewhat in favour of the idea, but would prefer it to be less frequent and better managed* (remove any names that already exist/stop it using existing names, remove daft names).

* I'm not sure who's approving names at the moment... assuming they are being approved...

doesnt allow new players to be able to know what kind of engine is in it, and thus they don't know which cars to demolish and which to save for looting, because theres one market for all people playing, 4L engines just became rare and command around $20,000 now. Not being able to tell which cars are 4L and which cars aren't is already upseting new players and making them feel discouraged from playing. and if they feel discouraged, why would they bother poking around and posting about it on the forums?

delete, next game

It should only be discouraging new players if they are getting the wrong information in the first place. It shouldn't bother new folk at all. They know no different.

Its a car I need to be careful of. Teach people what weapons look like so they can make a decision. Maybe we can make this a gazette article. Know your guns. And this week....

I feel us vets train people way too much and end up breaking half of the new player experience. Let them die, let them cry, let them laugh and call us names but by George don't feed them propaganda and tell them how to play the sames.

Ive not seen this for myself yet but agree that names need to be sorted. Us Marshals should be able to do this somehow.

I'm sorry, if scout skill affects your chance to detect the true chassis build, then maybe I misunderstood what this is all about.

It would also be nice if the original names could be restored once the car had been looted.

I got a pretty nasty bandit just now and although only a chevvy, it was loaded for bear. I think it was 2 MMLs front and a MG each left and right. It carried one of the name I submitted, so I feel it deserves some honour.

It's been the closest to defeating my favourite squad yet, and it's mate (a rebadged Badlander) barely contributed.

Whatever you really were Bakemono, we salute you!

One thing about randomized names - it makes absolutely no in-game sense:

Ok, so a bunch of your gangers roll out of town on a scout. They've done this maybe 100 times where they've encountered pretty much every vehicle build. Suddenly that Sunrise is no longer a Scorpion it's a 'Chuckwagon'? Are you kidding me? How would our gangers know the pet name of the vehicle the raider is driving? So maybe that Scorpion is named 'Chuckwagon' by the radiation-baked raider. So what, a good scout is going to flag that vehicle as a Scorpion can call it out to his buddies.

Now if the vehicle's ID started as 'Unknown' and required a good scout to be correctly identified, that would be much more realistic/immersive. That's the way I think this should work.

Isn't this exactly what happens? When you are actually seeing the chassis name isn't this an indication that your scout HAS identified it. Only difference is that instead of "unknown" being the name it has one of the random names. At least that's the way it seems to be working for me - when I'm running with a better scout I see more of the standard chassis names. I'm yet to do a run where everything is the randomised names.

And randomized names avoids the "the other unknown tan phoenix" problem. Now if we had vehicle names and types, with the first guaranteed unique within the event and the other either a known type or "unknown", we could solve both.

I would have the gun barrels invisible until they either get close enough or start firing.... That would be some interesting for of war..

And how we would chuckle every time someone panelled a radon rancher with a tank gun thinking it was a bullseye.

Haven't say the random names are going to make it impossible to talk about the ai cars in the forums.

Except that my 200 scout in SS can't identify anything.  I get entire swarms of "Zany Ted" and "Huoagchong" and "Hunkabuttass" and things.  I now spend even more time visually inspecting cars and the finally saying "kill all Sunrises and Chevaliers first, who cares if they have Black, Black-Grey, or Grey guns on them."

Wow - my 142 in TX ID's about 30-40% of the vehicle swarm. Not sure what the reference to weapon colour is - they're all black/grey to me, it's the shape that makes the difference I would have thought.

My uber-scout in GW (334) ID's about 80% of the swarm (though I haven't been running GW so much recently). Perhaps, you know like all other things to do with scouting, it's actually a roll against the scouting skill and we've been respectively unlucky/lucky.

What I've always wanted is a mouse over that told you what guns it had. Or even if it just said "Biter Class" or "Scorpion Class" to reference the build.

It shouldn't be hard to have a data file for the characters to keep track of what they have seen. With some "identification" roll... If my guy has never seen a Badlander before then it I shouldn't be able to "Player ID" it. When it fires on him... Roll vs Intelligence or Knowlage stat (ahem... Add stats!) and if he ID's it then save a tag in the characters file of ship-classes that he knows that car has an HMG.

Then later he might be able to visually ID it and the mouse over would say:

Class: Unknown
Weapons: HMG (F), MML (Re),
Engine: Unknown
Crew Capacity: Unknown
Reloads: Yes

HMG is Black
MMG is Grey-Black
MG is Grey
CR is White

But I can't differentiate the MMG too well unless it's side my side with its compatriots. The physical model is identical with small size differences (again I can't tell unless side by side with its compatriot weapons)

Its just another added time sink in a game with plenty of those already. This one though is a double time sink when you post one of these random names in the market!
