Bill Uncle V Vanek knew there was trouble the as soon as he crested the hill. The whole scenario was laid out in front of him on the valley floor. An old battered Alpha lay on its side, smoke pouring from its engine compartment. Crouched by the rear wheels was a woman and what looked like two small children. Crap, I guess its time to prove that chivalry isnt dead, thought Uncle V. He pressed down on the accelerator, easing the custom Phoenix down the hill. So far he counted four of them, circling their victims as angry wasps. It was a clear shot straight down the road to where the Alpha sat, its wheels spinning lazily in the stiff breeze. Some kind of custom buggy broke off of the perimeter, leaving its brethren in order to come in for the kill. The gas flowed into the big V-8 as Bill opened the flood gates, litres of fuel pouring into the hungry beast as the muscle car surged forward. Its fury unleashed, it took mere seconds to close the distance and bring the buggy into range. Uncle V pressed down on the trigger bar, the two ancient M2 browning .50 caliber heavy machine guns roared to life. They spit out their armour piercing incendiary tracers at an impressive 550 rounds per minute. As their touch caressed the side of the hapless buggy, it was lifted off the ground rolling over as though part of a well choreographed ballet. The exposed soft underbelly was no match for the magnesium and tungsten rounds. They pierced deep into the vehicle, igniting the fuel tank and turning the targeted vehicle into a pyrotechnic show as the stored ammo lit up. Then there were three. The rest of the scum on the valley floor hadnt yet noticed his presence. Bill used this to his own tactical advantage as he pressed home the attack. A station wagon from the periphery skidded to a stop; incredibly its driver exited in order to get a better look at the flaming mass of twisted metal that had once been his companions buggy. A short burst from the two M2s was all it took to silence him forever; his body tumbled away, collapsing to the uncaring dust. Then there were two. By now the remaining members of the gang had realized that they were no longer the hunters, but had become the prey. Banking on their inexperience, Bill coaxed every ounce of power out of his custom vehicle, shooting it down in to the valley, pushing it in-between his remaining foes, splitting the difference. His gamble paid off. The pickup on his left fired its twin rocket launchers a second too late. The explosive projectiles sailed harmlessly passed the Phoenix only to explode against the nondescript sedan closing from Bills right. The explosives vaporized the side of the car, the twin plasma jets caused by the armour penetrating warheads licked deep into the crew compartment of the sedan. Smoke billowed from it as the vehicle slew to its right and stopped. Then there was one. The driver of the pickup was able to redeem himself, by quickly bringing his rockets to bear. It was a matter of simple physics. Uncle Vs maneuver had placed the truck on the inside of the turn temporarily giving away the advantage. The one rocket that hit impacted the left side of the engine compartment, peeling back the armour and melting the breach of the Ma deuce on that side effectively turning it into a paper weight. The engine chuffed as shrapnel tore into the cylinder block freezing one of the pistons in place. Bill allowed the big muscle car to continue with the skid that had been started by the rocket impact. The front end spun around allowing him to track the pickup. With it firmly in his sights, Uncle V triggered his remaining HMG. The world went deaf as it beat out its staccato death song and the armour on the side of the target was hungrily torn away. The sensitive internal components and men inside were soon within its grasp. The rockets stored within the truck ignited, blossoming fire, belching up to the watching heavens. Then there were none. Bill brought the big muscle car around, easing it to a stop beside the damsel in distress. Reaching behind him he grabbed his battered aid bag. Quickly he flung his door open and swung himself out with urgency. Maam, are you alright? He asked, as he noticed that something wasnt right with this set up. The single bullet from the compact automatic clenched in the womans hand punched through the soft tissue of his body and he saw the children for what they were stuffy dolls. Uncle V dropped to the ground, the world spinning crazily around him. How could he have been so blind? I fell for a bloody ambush. Nothin personal cowboy, the woman drawled, a bodys gotta survive in this world as best as one can. That big car of yours will serve me better than this old Alpha ever did. As the consciousness faded from Bill he thought to himself, I hope there will be music, Ive missed the music. As the last of the light left him, the carrion birds overhead burst into song. Bill Vanek died in the dust by the side of the road, a faint smile on his lips. ![]() This list shows just who has been winning the most lucrative prizes on the circuits and arenas of Evan, during the past month. 1.
