The World of Evan According to Basher:

In this issue we describe a dangerous section on the route between Somerset and Gateway.. the infamous `Highway To Hell`!

The elevated highway is the most prominent feature along the whole length of this section of Evan! When the elevated highway was built, its intention was to keep users vehicles out of the sand and the abrasiveness of the winds at ground level.
Since the `Solar Event`, the entire length has fallen into disrepair with some sections collapsing entirely.

Now, the only way to traverse this bleak, sandy and wind-blasted section of Evan is by way of the aptly named ground level `Highway-to-Hell`. The low sloping hills provide little cover from enemy fire `when encountered`. There are a few crumbling sections of the overhead roadway and buildings that were once stores and houses at ground level, these can be used to provide shelter from the grainy winds and high speed projectiles if need be.
Most Traders find the best way to travel here is to stay on the road, stand on the throttle, and pray that their car is fast enough to escape any `nasty suprises` that can be encountered on this long, straight and lonely road.

True combateers find this section of evan to be particularly challenging. The lack of cover makes Strategic Planning a MUST! Running `hell-bent-for-leather` into the fight with guns blazing is NOT a recommended strategy in ANY situation and can be extremely hazardous on the `Highway to Hell`!

Mutant Fauna Roundup

Recent sightings of outsized and mutated creatures have continued throughout Evan. There have been no reports of attacks on vehicles, however a number of pedestrians have been eaten in the past month.

In the Northern Desert, the Desert Beetle has repeatedly attacked:

Near Firelight, a mutant `Fire Beetle` has been seen. The behaviour and capablities of this creature are not yet know.

In the Badlands region, particularly vicious and huge wolves have been attacking. It has been reported, although unconfirmed, that these creatures can hit speeds in excess of 35mph.

Knights of Cydonia Vs. Roadkill Ninjas

By Crix Makin

Yesterday the Knights of Cydonia lost two vehicles to the Roadkill Ninjas. One Windsor II and one Sunrise were lost. The Sunrise crew died in the incident, Theresa `Posh` Wickersham Driver and Gary `Cars` Newman` Gunner/Scout, whereas the Windsor Deuce`s crew were able to effect an escape, and newly armed with sub machine guns, they were able to kill off the local `wildlife` they encountered.

Hearing of this, the Knights` blood boiled, and something had to be done. They quickly and unanimously decided on a course of action:-
The Roadkill Ninjas would pay for this. Immediately!

So the tools of vengeance were selected:- A Landy with a 3.2 V8 engine, an ATG, HMG, and RL, and an Apache, with similarly destructive armaments. This after all, was not a mission for loot, but one requiring a number of enemy deaths.

Volunteers for this mission were not hard to come by. Six of the best gangers that the Knights could field were selected, including the leader, `Iron Balls` Lucy Swift Heavy Gunner, Courage 95.

Roadkill Ninjas being as prevalent around Somerset as they currently are, it did not take the party long to encounter a group of them.
A larger group than was desirable or in hindsight, wise, but with their blood still running hot, the Knights began to formulate their plan of attack.
It was decided that they would entice the Roadkill Ninjas to chase them, split up the enemy, and set up a devastating ambush further down the road.

The Knights awaited their enemy with bated breath, already tracking their guns to follow the distant engine noises they could hear over the dunes.

But instead of coming at them piecemeal, the Roadkill Ninjas had stayed in a large group. Pumped up and overconfident, the Knights stood their ground, deciding that no matter how many streamed over the hill, the enemy would still fall.

As the rockets exploded against their front armour and the vehicles bgan to be thrown around, the Knights quickly realised their mistake - their front armour would not last long against such an onslaught.

`Charge!` howled their leader, and the Knights` vehicles surged forward to meet the enemy.

The result:

Two vehicles lost, two crewmembers dead. The remaining Knights began the long walk home. One by one, the unarmed vehicle crews were picked off by the mutant creatures that live off those who attempt to travel the wastes without an armoured shell. The only survivor to return so far has been the Knights` leader. Another crew member, `Sweet` Jessica Brown, is missing, presumed dead, but this cannot be confirmed at present.

The Knights of Cydonia would like to caution those who travel the wastes to remember the old saying `vengeance is a dish best served cold` and to heed it.

Once we return to our former strength, we will be considering how to `balance the books` with the Roadkill Ninjas, but this course of action will be a cold and calculated one this time.
