Read on the description that it damages your engine. How exactly does Nitro work?

You fire it, it provides a boost in acceleration, it dirties your engine (event-duration damage).

...but only sometimes, and you never know how much or when the damage will be.

The damage is automatically and completely repaired, for free, at the end of the event.

No it will be permanent if you take some real engine damage during the event(even if only %1...+say 25% nitro damage = 26% damage at the end of an event).

But it's ok if you never take any engine damage.  I do not know if it matters when you take the real engine damage.  Like I only know that it matter AFTER you take nitro damage, I've never take engine damage and THEN nitro damage.

Thanks, but I still dont' quite get it. So, if my engine gets damaged by 24%, and my nitro dirties it by 2%, does it mean I have to get it to a camp to repair it already? Or will it negate the extra 2% after the match?

On the sidenote, anyone know what's the market rate for rocket boosters?

Pretty sure you add them up, it's happened to me a couple times. I suspect it might be only if your engine is impact damaged(or weapons dmgd) AFTER the nitro damage.

That's an interesting bit of info, Joel. I had no idea that was the case.

Nitro should only be used on the last lap of a race or in a desperate situation. Sure it will give you a temporary boost in acceleration, but if you “dirty” your engine by (x) percentage, then you are now running with a weakened engine and could put yourself in a worse position than you were before using the nitro.

Also, from testing done nitro appears useless when used at high speeds around 200mph+

If you can find and afford one, a rocket booster is a better choice.

Best used in the first lap if you used em at all. Best used if you didn't bother to get a pole position and can easily blow past everyone whom bothered to do the qualifiers. Makes them cry.

Rocket boosters are not allowed in racing events, however, only deathraces (unless this has been changed).

race= pro race or pro deathrace, why would they only be allowed in pro deathraces?

Ok. As far as I know nitrous is allowed in pro races or pro deathraces and rocket boosters are allowed in pro deathraces but not pro races.

As I said, I could have been misinformed on this or it may have been this way only at one time. I've never tried to enter a car with a rocket booster into a pro race but may have never tried it because I didn't think it was an option.

There was also a rumor going around at one time that rocket boosters will damage the car behind you. I do not think that this is true, but this may have increased my belief that rocket boosters were DR-only.

This I know: Rocket boosters cost more, weigh more, require more bulk, and must be used on the rear facing (if you want boost forward). Nitro boosters are cheaper, lighter, less bulky, and can be used in any weapon slot with the same effect. Their low weight means that you can equip them and not feel required to use them to make up for their weight in the car.

Rocket boosters weigh enough you will need to offset their weight by using them. While they won't dirty your engine, they are more likely to damage your tires with the sudden speed burst, and also are more likely to throw your car out of control, especially if it's light. But they typically provide a bigger benefit per shot.

There are a lot of pros and cons, here. Be sure that you choose your booster carefully.

Thinking of either getting a rocket boost or nitro for my Buzzer, to get me out of tight situations, since my Buzz is practically a stationary target. What you guys recommend?

(it runs on 32lv8 engine)

you dont need one... you need rear facing ATGs or CCs... they work like a roket booster AND blow up the cars behind you.

Yeah. Even the lowly HMG does a darn good job of propelling a Buzzer along. I have one Buzzer with a rear-mounted HGG and, with it firing, it'll keep well ahead of the crowd.

RB for sure in scouting Nitro is not for use in the wild, except race car couriers just trying to get to 350 fast from say 300 distance.

I agree with Joel on that one. Further, I've found the effectiveness of nitrous seems to go down when the weight of the car goes up. The same is true of rocket boosters, of course, but they don't seem to lose as much. Heavy cars can also control the shove that rocket boosters give much more efficiently.
