Hang on Downloading Data, on certain tracks only

Howdy, just started playing and I love this game. It's like interstate 76 all over again, only better. The problem I'm having is a hang during downloading objects on certain tracks. Basically if a track loads for me I know I'll always be able to play it whereas other tracks I know will hang. If allowed to finish downloading objects on those tracks I get timed out and kicked back to the lobby.

Here's a list of tracks which are a no go for me: (more added later)
Northern desert Racing Circuit
Elmsfield Lake Track
Gates of Somerset :mad:

I just want to get everything running right so I can go for a subscription, can't believe I'd never heard of this game before.

Note: This is during downloading objects, not data

I switched from open gl to d3d and the problem is back again.  switched back to open gl but its still sticking.  I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

The weirdest thing was that on the tracks it had trouble it would stop where it always sticks, then the windows default mouse icon would jump up and show the busy hourglass for a few seconds then dissappear and the rest of it would download.  Then I could play.

I'm wondering if this is caused by certain cars. I'm unable to scout, so far. I've tried to go out twice and no luck, other than my squadmates got my men back safe. I can load gates of Somerset and road to somerset fine in travels and DW tactical but can't get either started in a scout. The last one I tried to spectacte and couldn't was S127989 on road to somerset.

Weird update, needs to be looked at.

I spent half a day trying to run town events and I couldn't get into any of them. I had a race or deathrace coming up and I was talking to Mercubio about some different weapons. When my event popped up in the client I clicked close, instead of race, to hear what Merc was going to say. After he said his piece I tried the race, knowing full well it wouldn't work.

It worked. I scratched my head fora while after the race then tried another event. This time I think a combat. I clicked close on the pop up, waited a while, then boom, I could play. It didn't work the third time but on the fourth I waited till the server event time passed before I tried to join. It worked! And it kept on working that whole day, but only if I waited until the official start time to try to join an event. Any ideas on what this is? Because I'm pretty sure the people I'm racing/deathracing/combatting with are going to get annoyed soon.

This has been a problem that seems to happen to certain people and not others. Certainly the firewall is one cause. But I haven't managed to pin down exactly what else causes it.

When it freezes up, it does so at exactly the same point on the loading bar each time?

Oh, I solved it, for the most part. Forget about everything else I said.

If I log on and try to join an event I won't be able to. The way to solve this is:

A. Have a squad travel and get an encounter. It does a funky jump on loading then puts me into the game.

or

B. Create a custom game. I don't think the track/cars used really matter much. It does the funky jump on loading then puts me into the game.

After I've raced a race or run from the pirates on a scout I can go about my business and can get into just about every race/deathrace/combat I want to. I can even scout. I can continue doing whatever I want until I close the client or it crashes. Then I have to repeat A or B to get into any events.


**Edit: One weird thing I've noticed is that all tracks, arenas, and wilderness areas I've loaded so far load differently after I've done A or B. They load quickly on parts of the bar where they normally load slowly, and usually they pause, pop up a windows hourglass, then jump forward to loading completion or close to it. Hope this helps.


I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm way under what I think you said were the system requirements.

Either way, for me it's solved. Good luck with the others. If it helps here's what I'm running:
