If you're getting either of the following error messages under Windows:

"failed to launch application because application configuration is incorrect", or

"Unable to Launch Darkwind Client Application. It is likely that DarkwindLobby has failed to update the game, More information will be displayed"

Then please download and run this Windows update:

Visual C++ Runtime Package

(also available from Microsoft directly, here).

Ok...so after much frustration...I updated to IE8 and all is fine.

It must be some other Windows patch related to installing IE8 then, because the browser itself certainly has no effect.  Was it part of a service pack?

I guess the lesson is: make sure you patch Windows up-to-date.

Sam.. it looks like updating to IE8 gets around your banning mechanism..

you had better urgently fix it and ban latte again before he causes any more trouble! ;)

I think other people successfully run DW without needing to run in xp-mode, munzing. I may be wrong.
