"Hey, where's the ticker tape parade?"

Sarsfield was relatively quiet as "Explorer" drove through the gates. The somewhat dented Moose had held up incredibly well through five encounters with local pirates and a 1200 mile expedition.

"I'm just glad we're here," said Moses. "That's not a trip I want to repeat in a hurry."

Maria Buchanan grinned and put the safety on her machine gun. Five times they'd manned the guns. So far they'd not fired a shot. "Run like your arse is on fire," the boss had said, and they'd done just that. Neither of them had fancied finishing a 1200 mile journey on foot.

They pulled into an empty spot beside the tavern. Having arrived, they'd need to sort out a lockup and a garage space for "Explorer" - but first, a much needed drink was called for.

The Bytten Squad had arrived in Sarsfield.

Jimmy McCreary and Heather Rosser stroll over.

"Welcome! It's good to see some northern folks here." Heather elbows Jimmy, looking back over her shoulder. He looks annoyed but continues.

"Anytime you're looking for scoutin' partners come grab us. We'll either be at Dan's or in the garage working on our baby. We take 'How It Zer?' out at least every other day, and we're still here."

"The money ain't great, but we've been paying for our upkeep at least." Heather adds, looking over her shoulder again.

"The Boss only hired us a few days ago," mutters Moses. "I begin to see why."

Maria frowns. "I thought he said something about us expanding the Squad's empire and being bold pioneers?"

"That's Boss-speak for 'You're expendable - off you go.' Why do you think we got a flippin' MOOSE?"

(I think there's a psychological factor in this - we're more willing to take risks with expendables, which often pays off, while we don't want to expose our "good" members to risk. Rather like the paranoia of a new car getting pranged - and it happening within the first week - while the old banger goes for months without a ding...)
