I have a Phoenix that I was planning on using to take a driver and gunner to Elm so I can participate in races there. My phoenix has a 4 L engine, max B armor, 2 gatling guns and a 2 unit fuel tank. My car will only go 46 miles with that fuel tank. Am I really going to need a 14 unit fuel tank!?!?!? Do I need to remove some of the armor? Is there any way to calculate mileage (at least approximately) before I start removing armor and playing around with fuel tank size since it costs money and time to change those things around.

When you resize a fuel tank, do you get to keep the last tank in your lockup or is it gone? Also, do you keep old armor if you remove some from your car, is it lost, or automatically sold to Jake when he removes it?

Without reloads you should have 33 bulk left in your car.

That's 3 cans of fuel. Each can will give you 8.333 units of fuel, so that's 25 units of fuel.

You are going 46 miles on 2 units of fuel, so you should be able to go about 575 miles on the extra 25 units of fuel.

That should get you just about anywhere.

Also, check out the Vehicle Design sticky for the link to the DW Designer application which will show you estimated range as you design your car.

No need to remove armor.... It does not count against the bulk available in your car.
Depending on how much bulk you have available with the guns you should NOT have to remove them either...

When you resize the tank, you dont get to keep the old one. Armor is also replaced and not kept in your lockup.

Do as Spanky said and add fuel cans.. Each is 10 bulk and you'll need at least 2 possibly 3 to make it to Elms. So... You need to have at least 30 bulk available to carry the fuel cans.

Well shiat! I have 3 gatling gun mags in cargo but that is only 12 bulk. To be able to get 3 tanks I will have to remove the gunner from the car, which means taking two cars to get to Elm.

I won this Phoenix in a wilderness event. I also won an Eliminator last night but that only has 10 more bulk than a Phoenix. Should I look into building/buying a vehicle (Landrunner or Apache?) to get two members to Elm in one car? I currently have a little over $100K but haven’t designed a car yet so I don’t know how much they typically cost.

This game and community are amazing. Never got such quick feedback in any other game I have ever played.

Remove the GG's too. I'll trade you some in Elms for the equal amount in SS, so you can put them on when you get there if you want.

My "taxi" cars are Eliminators with no weapons, 3.2L engine & 15 unit tank. Plenty of room for courier missions or taxi runs.

Yes. :)

It's more expensive, but I also load out with A armor - 12/12/12/12 & 6 top & bottom. Very light - very fast. Offroad tyres so you don't worry about the offroad travel. 12 points of armor means the occasional 1 or 2 points from a jump or bump won't hurt, plus you can take 2-3 turns of fire without a breach.

Hope that helps...

JL, If I was to build my Eliminator like yours (there is no armor on it now anyways) would it be ok to "go alone" or would it be best to have an escort? I have only done two scouting missions, but tons of races and deathraces.

Damn I love this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look in my garage and scope out my Mercs......

My Mercenaries are ALL unarmed and run taxi missions and courier missions for me with few problems.... I outrun them all the time!

Sometimes you get a fast enemy car that can catch you but if you use the terrain to your advantage...... you can escape easily.

If you use armed escorts.......that raises the Combat Rating of your squad..... This, in effect, makes the enemies you face more numerous and deadly........ More enemies to fight with better weapons.

Thanks for the info JD (love the podcasts by the way). So one car would be less conspicuos and not draw the attention of pirates so easily. Makes sense.

I think I will give it a go tonight. If they die, then they desrved to.

One more question, when would an encounter occur, if there is one? Will I know right away or have to wait a few days (real time) to find out?

did ya put a armor on them JD? makes a difference...

as far as extra fuel to run to a different town, just get a pickup, put a 3.2L in it. put as much fuel as you need for both cars and haul arse to elms.

just run from every encounter. also if you run out the 500 meters in each encounter there is a good chance your char will earn driving skill.

Yeah Mike....
I never run without SOME armor!......hehehe

I don't go max on the Mercs......keeps the weight down.
12 front / 15 sides / 23 rear / 5 top / 8 bottom

With a 22 tank, I can run all towns except Firelight...and STILL take 98 bulk missions!

Don't go out with *NO* armor - any little bump or enemy attack will do internal damage.

Quote:

As JD said, stay away from escorts... I usually hit two cars if I'm running one car - if I'm running a big taxi mission I may have twin Voyagers and still usually get two cars - three tops. Just run away - don't take fighting vehicles and don't plan to fight. :)

Also as JD said, you may hit an enemy that you can't flat out outrun, but since you've raced/deathraced, you know how to take turns and recover. The NPC's have a harder time doing that.

Also - the maps scroll, so you can expect the exact same terrain after a while, so you sometimes have a chance to recover from a mistake.

unarmed cars can have full armor and still have a low CR. two unarmed cars can expect 3 enemies unless you have a bad scouting roll. 2 4L phoenix cars will easily outrun the pirates. even ambushed youll only have to run by 1 car at most and if you get hit 2 or 3 times your armor can take it.

2 4L phoenix with 2 or 3 cans of gas each can get to elms no problem
