Going just a bit OT, but not too much:
have weapons barrels to stay where they're right now, or they can be moved a bit?
I'm trying to skin the Big PU and the apache, and i'll like to draw somewhat to represent the weapon slot... i noticed that both front and rear barrels appears on the lower part of the car, interfering with bumpers and that white thing.
Since there's some space upper, i'm wondering if they can be moved up a bit before finish to draw.
Another question: do the skins have to be JPG? PNGs results somewhat better....

Doc, that cars are W O N D E R F U L ! ! !

They can be moved, but it involves editing the model and re-exporting it in 3D studio. However, I plan to do some 3D studio work next week, to get a few new car models game-ready, so I could do it then.

UH! I was thinking the barrels were added by the game engine, not that they was part of the model...
so, they are meshes that are hidden if not required.....
Well, just 'cause we're talking about that.... any chance to have a different mesh for ballistic weapons? :cyclops: seeing an horizontal barrel firing a shot at 60 degrees is not the best (just asking, this is the less priority problem i can see :) )

In fact Parduz, the model contains mounting points information to add relevant stuff accordingly.
Weapons are added on a different step by the game engine, once it has received data from the database.

Very sweet models doc.
Did you work on bumpers and ram plates textures too?

I got started on this one a few weeks ago actually... I'll have to work on it again. I'm against any car with only one skin!

Are u against a hearse then?

I'm against being limited to one skin- so yes I've been thinking about the hearse. I haven't looked at the file yet... I told DV I'd try a glossy Eaton! and then I'll try the chomper.
Frankly though I should prioritize the cars I like the most... but best for the game would be doing cars that show up a lot- Symph being a great example... man those look good. I've found myself enjoying fighting them again, heh heh.

My suggestion is to make the window plates look rivetted on, or bolted, or welded--basically adding some texture to otherwise flat planes.

I deliberately used an oversized "rivet" texture I made up, just so it'd show better.

Looks pretty badass so far Pard... thats my second favorite chassis so its got to look sweet!
I know one thing you wanted to do was match up a side port with where the weapon comes out... However not everyone uses side weapons on the BPU. Not sure how it will look without weapons?

Definitely a big improvement though... make sure to cover that back window too... no skull cave-ins for me!

Guys, great work! :cyclops:

Personally I would prefer to have the BPU with a different color tone for "windows".
It looks good anyway.

Yeah, i'll finish the back "window" when i've choosed the way to finish the others.
Rivets and other deco are required, yes.... i'm still struggling about the color: i'm not able to choose between a darker and/or desaturated version of the main color, or for a "neutral" color.... steel or "sand"...
Any other idea?

Just like an empty ball bearing...
http://www.accentbearing.com/bearings/rod%20ends/41333.jpg
I like more to see an empty slot than like how weapon "pop out" right now, but this is my only taste, so i'm open to your suggestion.
I plan to draw a different shape for the slot in the apache (the next i'll skin if you like how the BPU result: i'm using coreldraw to do it, so the look is a bit different from the "photoshopped" skins)

I'm not familiar with Corel. I could tell you how to modify/desaturate color relatively easy on Photoshop though.

One way you might try - I presume Corel has some sort of transparency function -would be to have a grayscale layer and draw color transparently over that. Of course I also assume Corel has layers... I clearly don't know what I'm talking about. I'll see if we have Corel at my school and I'll maybe mess around with it.

You know, out of all our vehicles, the BPU is the only model which actually looks built in a post-apocalyptic factory to be a war vehicle. Everything else is more or less a "real life" salvage. Part of that is its blockiness; a sort of simplicity of form that was evident in WWI tanks.

I suppose it was meant to be a truck with a real life parallel, but I actually like it's rigid shape.

Yeah, Doc, you're right.
Actually the skin is made by a layer with a grayscale pattern (the "non-uniform" pattern you see better on the sides), a layer actually red (wich allow to obtain all the colors just changing it) that multiply the first one, and a layer for the highlights and shadows (white or black filled shapes with a linear degrading transparency).
I can "cut" some holes in the red layer to let the grayscale texture comes out or to change how it affect the first level.

What i'm asking is for some idea on how can i differentiate the "window" panels, other than let them be metal grey or just making them "less red" :)

Well- I for one want you to keep at least one red skin with the window plates just like you have it.

You can always paint them another color; rusted metal, new metal, chassis color, a totally different color (i.e. recently looted and slapped on, with out time to repaint to match).

I think by 'differentiate' the other posters might be talking about clarity - the window plates might be the same color and even value ( light / dark) but it would add visual interest to have some visible edges where plates end - rivets and or weld lines (which I haven't tried yet - maybe today!).

Vik maybe wants the window areas to be another color entirely, not just differentiated through value?
