46 (Prototype 46-Ys), you get psiconics, what can it do?

46 (Prototype 46-Ys) --a completely fictional drug that alters the brain's chemistry. It is primarily a recreational drug but has interesting side-effects.
Short-term effects: none
Long-term effects: Improves the acquisition of the psionics skill. It's expensive as it requires elaborate facilities to manufacture, and secondly, accelerates character aging.

I have a character who uses this, once he gets psiconics, what can it do currently?

Psionics aren't implemented, so currently nothing at all.
However, when the first viable psionic character appears, I'll make sure to implement the effects ASAP.

I'm considering adding psionics abilities as specialisms only, but their effectiveness will be based on the psionic level of the character.

Here's the sort of things psionics will do:

o Personal courage enhancement
o tell if a weapon will hit before it?s fired
o mind attack - damage, other critical hits, stop driver from steering, scare opponent and add stress to them/make them freak out
o psionic ability: ?push?. Like the main thing that Jedis do: applies an impulse to a vehicle/character
o psionics: screw up someone?s next move, or control their next move (takes more skill)
o force fields: for personal defence or to defend an entire vehicle (requires higher skill)
o illusion that makes your opponent see multiple cars or no cars

When these go live will they be implemented in the same manner as weapons fire?

Meaning: Machine Gun fired from Joe Blow's vehicle -> Insignificant damage to front armour of Jane Doe's vehicle

Psionics Equivalent: Mind Attack from Joe Blow -> Minor Concussion Hit to Jane Doe -> Jane Doe's ears start to bleed

So that the recipient of the attack has a clue about what's going on, and can focus fire on the trouble spot.

I don't think it would be necessary to put *all* of that information in the general chat channel, but (if possible) only show it to the victim. He/she could then report to the rest of the squad that there is a psi attacking.

Other than location and 46-Ys is there any other factor or attribute that will contribute to a character increasing their psionic ability?
I moved my 46-Ys user to Firelight to hopefully increase her ability faster.

The character needs to have 1+ psionics skill before they can progress thru training (best in Firelight). 46Y-s will allow them to gain that first inkling of ability.

well it looks like people are going to spend thousands of dollars recruiting to have a character with psionics skill.. imagine the cost to get a full gang of people with psionics.. 1 million?

This thread has reminded me of one of the things I love about this game.

"Rare" and "ultra rare" is not some kind of subjective term. Sam will implement these rules as soon as a character develops the skill - and none of the hundreds and hundreds of characters in the game has yet developed any skill.

The genuine rarity of some things in the game is frustrating (I want an Ambulance/Fire Truck/etc.) but it is also incredibly cool and I think somewhat unique.

I believe sam once said the only character that has PSI is in an inactive gang.

I have a char that is a heavy 46Y user, no PSI yet

I have one guy who is a light user (and is currently my most valuable ganger, an excellent driver/gunner) and another guy with crappy stats who is a heavy user.

Neither of them have a 50 skill in anything yet, though I'm doing my best.

I had a psicic once. Ive heard it was the only one ingame. He wandered away and got lost....! What a pity.

Yeah, I agree with you there. I played Star Wars Galaxies from the start, when they said Jedi would be ultra-rare. So many people complained about it after a few months that not even 1 jedi had been found, that they basically opened the floodgates. A month or two later you could see screenshots of Jedi guilds with more than a dozen Jedi posing with their lightsabers.

There's currently 4 characters in the database with Psionics skills, although none have reached 10 skill yet. One is actually a 'free agent' at the moment!

I will definitely make the difficult first-step to learning Psionics a little more common, at some stage.
