Do it again. - After tutorial if not yet introduced to lobby. Do that. - Do a race. If not soon enough for you, you can request and event. Ask for help. - Do a Deathrace. Hati Murphys Mercs Racer Merchants Faction Group: Members Posts: 228 Joined: Jan 21, 2009 (Its a little long but here's the list) NEW PLAYERS CHECKLIST (THINGS YOU SHOULD DO FIRST) 1)htttps://dark-wind.com The web page. : You will coordinate most activities that you do in Dark-wind using the the webpage. Take some time to look over the various tabs. The tabs are: Gangs (Look at your Gang information, finances/activities/lockups/reputations) Events (you can see what events are upcoming and what events you have done as well as check the progress of narrative missions) Squads (Used to set up squads for scouting) Characters (used to manage your gangers (the characters that crew your rides and do the various events) Vehicles (Used to modify and equip your vehicles and see what cars you have in each town) Towns/Camps (Used to perform activities in the various towns if you have characters in that town) Buildings (A drop down list of buildings for each town you click on) Meet your gang. Characters Tab, My Characters: You will see a list of characters that you can click on. Each has statistics and skills as well as individual links you can click to examine a character in detail. Your average character has 20+ in a skill to start with and 40 in Strength, Speed, Dexterity (these are the Stats and they never change, except to decrease with age. If they have low stats, do not fret, you can fire them and hire new ones) There is also various skills across the top of each characters row. These are skills and go up by doing events and weekly training. The events tab. This is how you join an event say a Race that you see in the lobby. When you click on the event in the client it will have two tabs for register and webpage. Go to the Events tab on the webpage, click Event Diary, find the event you want to join, click the Name of the event (example Race), a new page will open showing the track in the left corner and a list of details for the race. Register your entry by choosing one of your characters in the drop down menu. Underneath the character selection drop down is a selection box for settings for your car. Read the WIKI "Suspension" to understand how those works for the various surfaces and chassis Ignore the rest for now (You will use all of the tabs at some point) 2) Meet the client. After you login and set up your account, you will see a lobby with 5 panels. Upper Left  is build info and event tracking, Upper Right is the lobby chat and will have announcements pinned in white. LOBBY IS PG 13. Do not use curse words in the lobby and try to be polite. Lower Left is a list of who is online by username (gangname). If they have *username*, that person is a Marshal (basically a game guide/helper who is here to answer your questions and help you get started). You can right click on a name and see various options (Set as Friend, Give $, Give Chrome, etc etc). Do not worry about those right now. Lower Middle is the Events panel. You can click upcoming events to register for Events more on this below or Live events (allows you to spectate an ongoing event if you want to see others playing) Lower right is the rotating scenes of Evan (ingame pictures). If you see one you particularly like you can click on the panel to set it as your background. DON'T BE AFRAID TO SAY HI AND ASK FOR HELP. The learning curve in Darkwind is steep but can be managed if you ask questions. We have a great community here that is very newbie friendly. 3) Do tutorial (Hit the big button labeled Tutorial, its step by step on basic controls for the game) . If you didn't get this ask in lobby for help. Do it again until you feel comfortable with the basic car movement, weapon selection, etc. 4) Hit the Help Button. Take some time to read over the various sections. Ask for help in the lobby chat if you are unclear on any aspects. 5) After tutorial if not yet introduced to lobby. Do that. 6) Do a race. Look at the Events panels (Lower Middle) in the cient and find a race with (SS for Somerset) after it. Click on the race and look in the help section for how to register for an event. There is a waiting period to allow multiple people to sign up. Races are no weapon events but be careful. The AI can crash into you and because DW simulates realistic physics you can slide into obstacles and injure or even kill your driver. Try to get a sense of how the tracks are and how to move. Then you can worry about placing and winning cash. The waiting time is a good time to introduce yourself and ask questions. If not soon enough for you, you can request and event. Bottom of the Events panel, click request a Stock Race. Ask for help. Do a few races to get a sense of how the cars move at speed 7) Do a Deathrace. Deathraces ARE dangerous but fun. You will want to hang back from the pack your first few times. Weapons are active after 15 moves and everyone will shoot at you. IMPORTANT NOTE: Use your F2,F3,F4 keys to set various floating titles above the cars (Speed, Enemy Distance, Gang Name, Vehicle Name, Driver Name, Status). Set one of the titles to 'Active' If an NPC gets too damaged to continue 'this vehicle has resigned' will pop up and their title will change to 'Resigned' and the car will stop. DO NOT SHOOT AT RESIGNED CARS!! You will get negative reputations and more importantly the AI gangs will stop respecting your resigns and try to kill you in events. 8) Do a combat. When registering for a Combat you want to be sure it is team based Combat. There will be 4-6 enemy vehicles on either the Red or Blue team. Your goal is to score points by scoring hits. Also there are gates on one map and a jump on the other that can be done for extra points. Again DO NOT SHOOT AT RESIGNED VEHICLES. If your car gets too damaged (less than 6 armor on a side, breached side, out of ammo), resign. There is no penalty for resigning early. 9) Amateur combat. If you see an Amatuer Night Combat event, this is like an arena combat (#8) except if you win (get the most points) you get to keep the car. This is an excellent way to get your first starter vehicles. 10) Read Wiki. You should have a tab with this page open at all times https://www.darkwindwiki.com/index.php?title=NPC_Vehicles it is a list of enemy vehicle builds and it is vital that you learn the builds so you can learn strategies to counter them. 11) Pinned posts in Forums. Click on the forums link on the left side of the webpage. Under the RP section there is a newbie forum with good information in it. Specifically there are various game guides 12) Look at the Town tab in the web page. Click on Somerset. Somerset Training Center: Set your weekly training for your characters here. Dexter's Tavern: Hire and fire gangers here, when you know more you can advertise for courier missions to other towns or do narrative missions. Somerset Hospital: When your gangers get injured, you can click their gang link and under visit hospital, pay $50 to put them in the hospital to heal faster. Also, you should set thier tag to "Hospital". Certain injuries are permanent. Jake's: Here is where you can order a new vehicle (Not advised. It tends to be expensive and you can loot, buy, or win, or rent a starter scout car), sell engines, weapons and tyres, and install or remove items from your vehicles. This is also where you can repair your vehicles. Somerset Marketplace: You can sell bulk goods (food, water, fuel, scrap, car parts) to the NPCs and Vehicles, Engines and weapons to the players, you can also buy and sell ammunition. First Bank of Somerset: The pay portal for ingame currency. You can buy a subscription or Chrome (ingame currency) here. There are benefits to this transaction but it is NOT required. 13) Join a scout. Ask in the lobby if 'Anyone scouting SS and willing to take a newbie along?' You should get several people who are running scouts. They will post up the Squad Name and the password usually 1234 but feel free to ask. Go to webpage, click on Squads/Search Squads/Enter 'Squad name that was given in lobby'/Click squad link/ Enter password/Join the squad. You will need a vehicle and crew to join a group scout. You can either put in one you won, bought or you can rent a car. Rent a car. Webpage/Vehicles Tab/My Vehicles Top of the page it will tell you how much it costs to rent and list 8 chassis to rent Only rent either the Antagonist or the Chaser, anything else is too much for you to control at this point. The Antagonist is a sedan with a Heavy Machinegun and a Car Rifle, the Chaser is a musclecar with a Medium Machinegun. They are good solid starter chassis 14) Use car to explore Evan. Get yourself a couple of Phoenix chassis with 4L engines and a rear mounted gun. Check in Dexters for courier missions or advertise for a mail run. Load the cargo into your chosen car and head to Elmsfield. Keep a ganger on rotation to build scouting skill, this will be important later. 15) Refer back to this list as needed.
