In about three weeks 3 days on 4/21 I plan on opening Evan's first for rent factory camp.  I've got some more factories to build, one is 40% done, one 20% done and I hope to build 1-2 more in that time.  Three factories done, building two more for our patron saint AugustusC.

What it means to you:  This is now an alternative to players who want something made at camp.  You pay me a weekly fee (40K is the opening price, subject to change) and a factory is yours for the week.  There will be one for Weapons, Chassis and one for Engines, naturally.  If the factory isn't already set up to make what you want, you pay the retool fee and two days later you can start production.

There are a lot more details about how it works on posts at the camp.

Here's a couple questions I get frequently from people I've talked to about it.

Q:  Who provides the mechs?
A:  Currently the camp has a MR of about 74 on a good day with the mechs I have there.  If you need more MR to build what you want you'll need to being mechs.  Initially this will only interest players wanting lower gear but as people start using the camp the MR will rise.  I'll have 8 mech shops to take advantage of the best 32 mechs.  There will be price break of 25% (up to a maximum of 75%) for every 500 points of mech skill you bring to camp prior to starting.

Q:  What can I build?
A: See This Wiki Page

We will be making Engines, Weapons and Chassis initially.  If you want to make Ammo or Tires you'll need a factory level retooling to those things then back to what it was.  This is prohibitively expensive, but as an example to tires and back to chassis would run 450K.  See above link for pricing.

Q:  Who supplies the materials required?
A:  You do.  I will have a limited amount of CP's and EP's on hand at bad pricing for people who run short (500/350 $DW).  You will need to come up with your own plastic if you're making a chassis.  Ask around, it can be looted and people may sell you some.

Q:  What's in it for you?
A:  Well initially a capital outlay exceeding 35 million before its done.  Other than that.... the hope that this helps retain players and makes the DW world a better place for players.  That sounds idealistic I know but my old gang name was The Light Brigade for a good reason.  I might eventually take over one factory, but that remains to be seen.  A lot depends on how many people take advantage of this.  I hope this becomes a legacy project that lasts the test of DW time.

Q: Who is invited to this party?
A: Everyone.  Yep.  Even you.

Q: How do I apply to a camp?
A:  For anyone new trying to figure out how to get started, you need to apply for membership at Tango's U-Build It.  To do that:

From the website go to the Towns/Camps dropdown menu and select All Camps (Map).  Use the blue map controls in the upper left to scroll to Badlands Truckstop and zoom in.  Mouse over the little building icon closest to Badlands Truckstop that says Tangos U-Build-It.  Click the icon, it will turn gold and there's now a button in the upper right to Open Camp Page.  There you can apply for membership.  If I'm on and you let me know you applied I can approve you right then, otherwise I'll do it the next time I check the camp.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, I'll try and answer as best as I can.

TUBI will open 4/21!  85 MR and climbing, get in line now!!!  Details on darkwind discussion thread "Want something? Build it yourself. Tango's U-Build-It"

Great idea Tango.
It will take a lot of policing- and make sure players don't POOL mechs.
If you get the MR high enough- it would have a lot of players interested.
You would probably have to rent out factories by the month though- as it would take time to re-tool, and then they would need enough time to make several of what they wanted.
Good luck with it tho.

Thanks!
As for weekly vs monthly my thought is to cycle as many people through as quickly as possible to keep the wait queue moving quickly.  For small items you can make several in a week (SMG's), For engines you can make 1-2 in a week, Chassis typically take 3+ weeks.  So yeah for chassis you will be almost renting it for a month, but I don't want to tie up faster factories for that long.    I'll  have separate queues for each factory, so retooling only takes two days and is done on Mondays so it will be ready for Thursday production to start.  This may not allow enough production time to recoup retooling costs so it may go to a two week minimum.  We will see.

In short, trying to keep the line moving quickly.  Queues suck, but fast queues are endurable.  If you're in the queue every month you're more likely to just leave your mechs there and it helps keep our MR more stable.

This is all theory, practice will tell us if these numbers need changing.  At current fame I'll be running 3 factories around 59% when I tear down the lockup and have all 8 mech shops on line(with 4 more offline to make up for the lockup).

If this idea is successful it would be great if people were to franchise it, three camps running like this would really give the non-camp owning public a chance to manufacture what they want.  Cost is prohibitive though, at least 35 million to bring it on line and a lot of lorry loads to move the mountain of materiel.

Sounds good.
I have just today requested a camp from SAM, and am also planning a community camp project- not sure exactly what yet. I'm going to build it first and then decide, but it's certainly going to be aimed at the low- middling players to take part in all camp decisions.
I also have a tiny ELMS camp that I was going to sell soon, but it has a plastics plant and makes lots of food and water- so I will help out your project with those for a start.

Added the following to original post, reposting it here to make sure no one who needs it misses it.

Quick update, dropping weekly rental fee to 40K per week for now.

Mech rating was 71 yesterday and will continue to climb as mechs arrive.

Factories are 81%,61% and 41% done building.

If you need mechs brought to camp Grograt is running some taxis this week from Somerset and has graciously volunteered to haul your mechs along, pm him for details.

Camp will likely beat the 4/30 estimate and open early. Remember the cycle for submissions starts on Mondays. I'm going to start taking Build Requests early but keep in mind, you need to have your materials ready to donate at camp and mechs on site if you want your discount for them.

Doing test runs factory 1 is currently making a sub-machine gun every 2 hours, Factory 2 is making a heavy smokescreen every 10 hours. Factory 3 is retooling to Chassis (takes 7 days to change between types of Chassis, Engine, Weapon, only two days between sub type.) Because of that, factory 3 is not using any fame and 1 and 2 are running at 100%, which will not be typical but actual production numbers should not be far off.

TUBI (Tango's U-Build-It) opens Thursday and is taking build orders now.  Current MR is 85.  That includes being able to build BPU's, Napalm Guns, Heavy Rocket Racks, Heavy Flaming Oil Jet, 3.2Lv8's, 3L, 2L Rotary engines and much more. Click here for a list.  All you need to do is get your materials to camp, fill out a Build Order and pay your one week fee of $40,000.
