I refer of course to Sam's latest camp announcement. An hour ago.

I wonder how many camps there will be in 2 months time?

Wil that improve the game or just make us all totally independent of each other never visiting towns as our whole gangs could be working on our own personal camps?

what will happen to empty and redundant camps, because its possible in a year there will be quite a few. Possible crumble to dust should be an option!

will this encourage more players south?

Can we have an amnesty camp move phase since most people bought the camps second hand when they had no say over location and couldn't have won one in an auction?

these and many more questions coming soon :)

Also take away the ability to inherit camps you haven't contributed to. Maybe set a minimum on the contributions needed to qualify to assume control of abandoned camps or the crumble back into the landscape.

I think it will all end up reaching a balance.
After the initial rush of players thinking they can buy a small camp for a few million and get rich quick- and obviously failing to do so, it will probably all reach a supply/demand balance.
I can see lots of players rushing into camp ownership without considering....

1) You need mechs. Lots of mechs. Lots of GOOD mechs. Every player with good mechs is already aligned to a camp- so you will need your own or a partner.

2) The cost of buying a camp is a drop compared to what it then costs to build it, configure factories, maintain it etc.

3) IMHO, Unless you can hit the floor running with an MR of at LEAST 80-93 (3.2LV8s/Buzzers) youre going to spend months and months making tiny, tiny amounts of profit- that will never cover the outlay or time spend running it.

I am quite looking forward to snapping up a few small camps in a few months time when they all get fed up and want to offload them :-)

For this reason also, there DEFINATELY needs to be a gradual crumble and disapear time for dead camps- that is a MUST so that the map of Evan doesn't look like a festival field in a few months time!!

I can't say this change does not benefit me, it is a lot cheaper now to have your own camp and the vets can't jump in your auction. However, I am wondering if the problem we are trying to fix was so big to make such a big change. As far as I know, the main problem was that the player who surveyed the camp payed a big amount of money fot it, wich means he was in disadvantadge in the auction.
This could be fixed just by charging the surveying cost to the winner of the auction.
The problem with having prices fixed by Sam is that they are unrelated from market price, so right now we might find them cheap and in a few years, if this game works in our OS, we might find them expensive.

Let the economy work and balance itself.

I agree completely- but did you read my previous post?
How does this change benefit you?
I don't want to sound harsh, but you have 6 mechs over 100, so you can't be even thinking about camp ownership for months and months- this is the point I was trying to make.
Accessable camp ownership might sound nice- but will the reality of expensive failure actually hurt more players than it benefits- and maybe even lose players from the game?
You are far better off sending those mechs to a well established camp and joining the waiting list for a nice item every so often.

Well, skiping the auction is already a benefit for those unable to follow your wallet. Camp management has not changed i think, would have been equally difficult to run a camp before and now.

Windsor - MR 41
BPU - MR 44
Flash or Ape - MR 60
Smokescreen, oil jet, smg, hoj, hss, foj - MR 35 or less
LRR, hfoj, heavy paint spray, smoke gun, MRR - MR 39-45
HRR - MR 51
Flechette Gun, Napalm Gun - MR 60
4L engine - MR 45
5L engine - MR 63
2L rotary - MR 66
Racing Tires - MR 57

These are all rare enough you can make money in the SS/EL region. Not a lot, but enough to make it fun if you don't mind the work. Not everybody needs buzzers.

Yep- thanks Bolt- you completely prove my point.
OK- I'll concede the 2L rotary- quick to make, and sell well in SS.
Everything else on your list is worth so little, and takes so long to make that they are just not worth the costs of camp running involved.
And don't forget- the more small camps that spring up and start churning out these low end items- the less they will be worth on market anyway.
I didn't say that you CAN'T make profit running a small camp with low MR- I said that the profits are so low running a small camp with low MR that it will take literally years to recoup your outlay for doing it- as your list proves.
I'm not trying to warn players off from owning their own camp- it has been the most rewarding thing I have done in the game! - I'm just trying to advise players that it is NOT a golden path to instant riches- and some might not realise that.

Anyone who thinks there is a path to instant riches in this game, probably shouldn't be playing this game.
