"Gimme a whisky, ya ugly son of a bitch!"

Heads all across Dexter's Tavern spun to see who uttered those words. Eyes nervously surveyed the tall, duster-clad man and the sound of hands testing the grip of a sidearm filled the room. People who spoke like that to Dexter didn't live very long.

Dexter turned slowly and looked up from the mug he was wiping with an old cloth that looked dirtier than the glass. He'd been in a confrontation like this many times before, and he knew well how to handle himself.

"Friend, I'll give you exactly ten seconds to turn around and disappear, or…. By the sands! PT? How long's it been?"

The stranger looked up and the shadow from his hat left his face. It was a face that only the old-timers in the bar recognized. The face was older, now–wiser and with a few more lines. The tension in the room relaxed as those familiar with the stranger holstered their weapons and began to get up from their seats. It was a clear sign that there was no threat.

"Nigh-on twenty years, Dex. Good to see ya. What'd I miss?"

"Not a lot, PT. It's the same-old kick-you-in-the-head world it's always been. I've seen thousands come and go. Never thought I'd see you again."

The men looked each other in the eyes and the stranger smiled a wry smile. "You can't get rid o' me that easy. Felt I had to get away and see the world but, to be honest, there ain't much out there to see. Sure, there are a few places out there where a man could live a quiet, peaceful life, but that just ain't for me. During all that time away I just couldn't shake the call to come back. Well, Dex, I've finally done it. I'm back. I've a whim to put a new gang together."

"Have a drink on me, PT." Dexter pulled a bottle out from under the bar the likes of which few had ever seen before, and he poured three fingers of a rich, brown liquor into a glass. The stranger took a long pull from the glass, moved the drink around in his mouth and swallowed, then looked at Dexter, smiled a knowing smile, and nodded. He then turned to greet the few men who recognized them. Hands were shook and a few stories were told before the stranger left the group and went back to the bar.

"Thanks, Dex. I've missed this dirty old rathole."

"See you around, PT. Let me know if I can do anything for you."

"There is one thing. If you see Goat, tell him that he was right all along."

At this, Dexter laughed and the stranger spun around and walked back out into the sands.

I'm back, boys.
