Charles "Mechy" Mackie pounded up the stairs to his Boss's office.

She met him at the door.

"WHAT? ...are we under attack? It's them damned Manhunters again, isn't it??? WELL?"

Mackie held up his hands. "Whoa Boss! Slow down!" He backed up a step as she moved towards him.

"Well then what?" Rebecca "Remains" Wright said through gritted teeth.

"Uh...well, we got a post from Sarsfield." he said and attempted a smile. "...I don't know how she did it, but she hired some mercs' to transport "Egregious" and "Tookie Tookie?" out of that hell hole and up here!"

She relaxed visibly. Smiled. "Loaded?"

"...full of tank guns and v8's from what the post says." Mackie said, smiling back.

"Anything else?"

"Ya, 8 CC's and those FOJ's you wanted."

She placed her closed fists atop her .40's. Shook her head.

"Who'da thunk she could pull that off?" she said.

A serious look came over her face. "Pricetag?"

"...that's the strange part. She didn't mention that."

"Ah hell." Rebecca said, dropping her chin, looking at the floor. "Well, good news so far, yes?"

She looked up at her lead Mech'.

"So far, so good. It'll be good to get "Egregious" back into action...and having the TT available might take some of the strain off the FE."

"...good thinking. Well, let's go get a drink, then, and toast the mercs' brave enough to try that little transit on our behalf."

[OOC: Thanks Tonic...no matter what happens. "...East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'..."]

"I know...don't say it."

Charles "Mechy" Mackie stopped short of crossing the threshold to his Boss's office.

"...I, uh, just wanted to..." he started but stopped as his Boss raised a hand, palm towards him.

"Let me know when we have definitive word. Until then, I don't want to hear sh_t."

"You got it, Boss." he said, backing away.

A couple of the other crew members were gathered at the bottom of the stairway.

"Is it true?" one asked.

"...all of them?" queried another.

Mackie raised his hands. "Stop. We don't know anything for sure, right now. All we have is some drifter's story about happening on a burned out hulk...when I know, you'll know."

They turned and walked away, leaning close to one another, talking.

Mackie sat down on the stairs, hands to his temples, head bent.

He'd really wanted a TT to play with....

The door opens, and in walks the blood-smeared, soot-stained person of Rose Thomas.

One glance at her face is all it takes to stop a conversation.  The room falls silent as she crosses to the bar.

"Its all gone," she says to Charles 'Mechy' Mackie without preamble.  "The cargo, the vehicles.  Boom."  She points a finger at the bartender, who hastily pours a shot of tequila.  "Four of us made it out alive," she says over the rim of the shotglass before throwing it back.

She stares at Mackie for a moment as a memory works its way through her mind.  She shakes it off, then refocuses on him.  The bright smile she puts on is painful to watch.  "So you can keep Patton, it's set up the same as Egregious.  We'll make good on the other losses, but it'll take some time.  Until we do... you can use Cookie Monster.  We'll drive it up as soon as we can get a crew together."

She pulls out a bill, but the barkeep shakes his head.  She glares at him and he pales, reaching out a trembling, sweaty hand to gently remove the note from her hand.

Rose stops halfway to the door, looks over her shoulder with a smile as hard as glass.  "Thanks for using Tonic Engine Trucking.  Please think of us in the future for your cargo-bearing needs."

[OOC: OOPS!  I can fix it...]

Mackie leaned against the bar rail...his head bowed...shoulders hunched.

Well, he had his confirmation. Now how was he going to tell his Boss?

...of course, there was the replacement of the lost equipment, but he knew his Boss, Rebecca Wright, most probably wouldn't take the Buzzer. Oh, sure, it's the same vehicle...but it doesn't have the name and the name was everything. She'd been around since the inception of the original gang from which "Slaughterhouse" had sprung after a debacle had killed off most of the senior...and half the junior, members of "Shattered-n-Bloody."

Getting to "Egregious" and returning her to 'the fold' had been one of the driving factors behind Wright's successes and her bloody climb to the head of her own crew.

Well, there was only one way to remove a sticky bandage....

He pushed away from the bar, hitched up his pants and turned to the door.
