Most threads on this topic are coming from vets with their personal opinions and views to what is right or wrong in regards to PVP. They usually have hidden agendas or grudges on the ones that I have read and it is the root of what causes players to shy away from PVP, myself included. But I hope this post will open some eyes and change some attitudes that will make PVP seem less intimidating to the non-PVP players from a NEW players POV.

I have been playing for 2 1/2 months now and this past weekend is where I encountered my first intercepted PVP scout. It had me caught off guard, as the rest of the squad. (no players names will be here used because I do not wish this to fuel any negative cometary between the other players). Once we regained our composure, we engaged the other player. Tactical posturing and positioning began, then the battle started. (keeping things brief) we eventually lost a long drawn out fight and I congratulated the winning player when the encounter was over. Some of our squad made exception to some tactics that were used by the other player, but in the end, we lost.

The next day gave me time to reflect on the previous nights encounter. I figured out 2 glaring mistakes that I made that changed the outcome. 1) towards the end of the battle when it was just me against two other opponents vehicles, I vacated a tactical advantage point on top of a hill to chase after one vehicle that was almost breached on 3 sides (left, right and rear),
2) I stopped firing on a vehicle that demo'd the driver, but player did NOT resign.

Everyone needs to be aware that we are not playing by AI rules during PVP events. Actual players bring unpredictability and irrational behavior that change the encounter from one move to the next. This makes PVP fun and exciting! (I never thought I would have said that before lol) The human element makes your strategies, both offensively and defensively, change from player to player as well.

Once the event ended and I watched my renowned XUV go bye-bye, i was upset and mad. But at myself, NOT the attacking player. I viewed this encounter as a valuable learning experience that will help me in future PVP events. But this is where it gets better! The attacking player then offered to give back the vehicles he won. (no groans from the vets that show no mercy as a general rule, there is a point to be made here) Most players seem to make losing their vehicles as an "end of the world" event. Its not, at worst, maybe an inconvenience of buying and reequipping it. But their are good players out there that honor good sportsmanship. I also had a player from our defeated squad offer me help in replenishing any weapons I had lost! Yes people, we have the BEST PLAYERS AND GAME COMMUNITY SUPPORT that I have ever seen in any game format. You guys made me change my attitude towards PVP due to your selflessness acts and willingness to help and support the new players of Darkwind!

To all players old and new, PVP is nothing to fear. Yes, you may win some and probably lose a little bit more often (that's because there are some very good players out there). There is nothing wrong about resigning and conceding victory or losing a few vehicles in the process. You can learn from it and rebuild and be a better player for it. Remember this everyone, most of you are already scouting PVP and don't know it. Just because your PVP flag is off doesn't mean you can't get intercepted during a scout. If a squad mate has his flag on, guess what, it makes you susceptible to PVP as well. Imagine that, most of us have been playing PVP on since the rule change and didn't even realize it or experience it until just now.

Since then, I have contacted that attacking player and congratulated him again and thanked him for returning my vehicle. To show that being a good sport can be played on both sides, I decided to do what I felt was right. My vehicle had a custom skin on it that he won fair and square, so I offered to make a custom skin for his vehicle to replace the one that he returned back to me.

I hope this thread will give players a reason not to fear PVP, but embrace it as part of the BEST GAME I have been a part of. (THANK YOU SAM!)

Be a good sport and respectful to others here on Darkwind. It will give hours, days, months and even years of fun!

;)

Not an uncommon story. Thanks for posting, amigo. Good to hear what really happened instead of what may happen.

Yaaaaaaay FUN!

I'm happy you enjoyed it, and it sounds like you ended up against a decent player, unlike some who seem to feel if they have the opportunity, they are required to kill all gangers in range.

For my part, fear has nothing to do with it. I have NO interest in intercept PVP. I'll be totally happy if every player in the game regularly engages in PVP and is completely excited and happy about it, as long as I can keep my flag on and go happily about my lil carebear way :)

S501630

Watched it. My opinion:

1) Cray is smart - experience matters

2) Your teamwork needs work ;)

Your mistake was lack of aggressiveness - parking on a hill while your teammates get slaughtered by an outnumbered opponent is not a good tactic. You had Cray's apache pinned down but then you backed off and let him escape. You did the same thing with his stormer.

3) Glad you had fun :) A good first battle - as you can see it is a very different and more challenging experience. And there are no players who feel they are 'required to kill all gangers in range'. Name them, WarChylde.

Loved the guy using his peds!

Vets don't always keep your cars! So Xman quit with the Vet bashing already! Only car I ever kept was goat's Apache, and that was only for a few days. I have 100s of cars, why would I want to keep your pride and joy?

Good playing by all.
