Is it a major hassle to tweak the relative scale of the vehicles in the client?  The most glaring examples are the Turin and the Pickup... but there are certainly others.

Dunno what's involved, so I'm sort of wondering out loud.

Yeah, I know Buzzers are supposed to be big and scary, but they look kind of odd next to some of the others. And I agree with you on pickups and even BPU's, which aren't very "B." Not wide enough, imo.

Certainly doesn't detract much from the game for me (I love seeing a Sonic ram a Buzzer; looks like a fly trying to land on a dog), but if I could easily fix it, I would.

Buccaneer model is out of scale big time, about the size of a buzzer.

Currently, scaling is done in the actual 3d model files (i.e., it's a pain in the butt to change). But I'll go take a look and see if it can be done in code without breaking collisions or anything. If so, we'll be able to easily tweak them.

It's a bit messy actually.. the chassis scale and the scale of weapons, wheels and bumpers are fine. But the positioning of the wheels assumes that the scale defined in the 3d model is correct, and changing it in code is awkward.

I can resize the actual 3d models though.. it would be really useful if you could let me know which ones and how much they're incorrect by. They need to be specified as a percentage, i.e. 105% is a model scaled up by 5%, and 95% is scaled down by 5%

I remember seeing my dustup next to other vehicles and thinking it's too big. It's probably the correct size but the BPU & the Buzzer should be bigger

One of the cars is the correct size(perhaps compare to the buildings), then do all the other cars based on that car, otherwise you will be changing this crap forever.

Did I volunteer for Operation: DW Tactical Scaling Comparisons by creating this thread? Or would somebody with more experience in tactical like to handle that part?

Oh yeah, and Joel was dead-on correct with his observation. We gotta pick a chassis as "correct," then do all adjustments relative to that one. Or as he said, it will be an eternal clusterpluck.

I guess no way to "group" all the elements then scale them?

anyone tried to do this in tac? Ill make something up.

Im have no idea on the file formats sam, but getting into CIN4D now at tech, might even be able to get a free student copy ;) maybe I can work out something there with some time and knowledge. Pretty sure that program should do it?

Greetings,

What about:

1/ Taking a ped as unit for in game scaling
2/ Comparing actual in-game models size to real world equivalent

Regards,
Diezel.

good point, makes a chassis what it is, will this just muck up all chassis as we know them, especially the small pickup which would have to be one of the major offenders Ive found so far.

First 40 cars or so wil be available for comparison soon as a TAC template. shall paste some photos. {crud, program crashed half way through lol, well, there goes an hour, redo}

Size comparison Buggy to McFly is now available as a TAC event. (also have a replay S2110 for quick reference)

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/765/screenshot2119501.png

Or bigga

Not all the vehicles can be added to the one event.. I believe

tried to line them up best I could in groups.

Not really sure what should be a standard here.

Using the sunrise, squad car, yoyager, deville (tires? too big), chev as a standard and the compacts:

Too small + indicates by greater amount smaller/larger

Vamp, +
corg, +
bullet, +
57, +
hot rod,
Moray (should be same as pho or sunrise or pho should be moray size and moray be pho size, switched)
Osprey (not featured) +
Superbird, + (should be same width as stormer, roughly, a little longer)
Stormer, (maybe a tad bigger, should be larger than a challenger? or the same, yanks?)
Mkenzie, +

Too Big

Bucc, (how big is this car in RL, is this a big Olds 442? big car? as big as a Charger/Superbird or bigger)
Cougar, +
McFly, +
Turin, + (not featured)
Dustup, ?

Thats it so far, any ideas? if we can get general consensus on most stuff we can start working out figures.

2nd lot is up in TAC Size comparison 2nd group should be available to all.

Car have guns here and next to know armour. Lots of peds, spikes, HFOJ.. some HRR in there somewhere with no bottom armour on any car. MDs on the front, no guessing which car that is... have fun

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3973/screenshot2330193.png

was thinking the win and squad actually too small.. but, I think the squad is about the same width as the hearse and windsors, looks about right, could they be larger?

Too Small

pike ? cuda compared to challenger (I think here shows the small moray, osprey and flail)
Moray
Osprey +
Flail +
Moose +
estate
pickup + or even ++
BPU +
Chomper
Tractor

Too Big

Merc +
spirit
turin +

Is this truck the right size compared to the cars that we think are the right size?

The pickup should be at least larger than the largest muscle or sedan, up to SUV level proboably... the BPU even larger.

Other than that, seems like bast has got it down, ospreys and flails do need to be a bit larger in relative to how much bulk they carry.

If it should be based around anything, vehicle size should probably be scale around how much bulk it takes.
