Recipe For ?Just Desserts?

Ingredients Required For This Recipe:

Ample amounts of playtime
A bankroll the size of Texas
A suggestion of community service
A shadow of ?enterprise? (to hide under)
A generous portion of greed
A touch of chicanery
An unforgiving public

Start with a generous portion of greed.

First, infuriate public opinion by mixing your economic muscle and generous playtime allocation by rightfully purchasing all you can. Put most of these purchases aside to horde. It doesn?t matter if you aren?t ever going to use them, just buy all that you can.

Further infuriate the masses by explaining you purchase a small chunk of them with the intent to solely make a profit off the people you play with.

Begin simmering the issue under the shadow of enterprise.

Add Chicanery.

As issue comes to a rolling boil, suggest your unbridled greed and profiteering is actually performing a positive community service. As if someone that could afford to buy that Ambulance/Eaton/Apache you are hocking is actually physically and economically unable to reach Gateway (where you bought it) to buy it themselves.

Stir rigorously, sticking to your mantra of capitalism and social service as the kitchen gets hotter and hotter around you. After all, if the game allows you to do something, such as purchase every chassis available as surplus, you should always do it. You are not a soulless profiteer. Anyone that says otherwise is clearly a Socialist.

Wait a short time, and discover your confection has brewed up enough public outcry to trigger a change in the mechanics of the game. Soon enough, we will all have garage fees to enjoy. All thanks to you!

I am worried about the pricing for 26 cars. I wonder how many a couple of hundred will cost to house, hahah!

Bon appetit!

I'm not so much concerned about upholding the reputation that I'm doing some kind of service to anyone, because I'm not, yes I do it because of profit, I thought that bit was obvious, but I still think that if people are happy with the stuff they buy then everyone wins in the end and it's all good. (but I know you'll choose to see it differently)

But see Alo, that's where you are being contradictory.  I don't think any outrage at you manifested by badger is the result of you being faster than him at buying - it was when you offered to sell it to him at a markup and make it seem like you were doing him a favor, that incensed people.

Nothing wrong with a profit, and nothing wrong with a making a profit on an item that you brought from a location 36 hours away.  But in this particular instance, it was an item available locally.  Its not the act of buying the item that upset people, it was what you did right after you bought it.

Don't be offended that people are pissed off; they are the results of actions you consciously took, and which you seem to trying to cover up with words at this point.

Ah, but I have no outrage about missing out on the Apache.  In fact, I had the opportunity to loot one an hour ago.  I gave it to hallen, instead.

And, for the record, he wasn't going to profit off of me.  He offered to sell it to me for what he paid for it.  What he paid for it was outside of my budget, as I explained in my post.

The reasons my pie hole is firing off so much about this resides in two parts:

One: I want him to acknowledge that his actions, while entirely within the field of fair play, do NOT have a positive effect on the community.  They have the opposite effect.  I would frankly prefer to see him relish what he is doing like Wolf does when he destroys another person's squad in PvP.  Wolf would never be able to pull off telling me he is helping me by planting twin rockets in my car door, so why should Alo?

Two:  I don't like rules.  I see this process happen a lot in America.  For example: some looney somewhere brings a friggin shoe with explosives in it onto a plane, and all of a sudden we are all considered Shoe Bombers That Cannot Be Trusted.  Now, I have to take my shoes off every time I try to get to my plane.  I got another rule to follow, because someone else thought exploding shoes were fun.

The fault is in the user, not the game mechanics.  My posts here were an appeal to Alo to stop the economic strangulation a lot of people playing don't seem to like (myself included).

Police yourself before we are all policed.  that kind of thing.

howdy,

i didn't read thru all the posts, but as sam said the original beef should really be considered fair play. and with that, just as in real life, those with more money have the means to make even more. there's no rule written (pretty much) stating that the rich should provide for the poor.

storage fees are a fine idea, but what will that really do? the RICH vets can still afford it, so it'll only hurt the middle-class guys to a certain extent.

perhaps as the Camps are implemented certain other features could be made available. i don't know how they're going to work, but if they're based on square footage, then a player could own a parking/storage lot. instead of filling the camp with barracks and such, it could just be a protected area.

but then again, the rich can do the same, so it doesn't really matter.

at any rate- any money charged should go 'somewhere' that might possibly benefit someone. a lottery for players with $30,000 or less? bad guy/gang bounties? what else?

or, create some theft rules. gang members with the thievery skill get a X% bonus to their chances when trying to bust into a garage with X number of cars. the more cars, the easier it is to steal one.

Sam has provided a simulation of garage and lockup fees.
It works very well, unless you are collecting everything around.
It won't hurt lower gangs that much.

heh heh.

Yes, I think the fees are about right. I'll be announcing them later today, hopefully.

In any case, as with everything else, I'm always willing to tweak things if they seem unbalanced..
