It reads: 'Tonight we ride for Asgard. We are expected to arrive at 20:00 on wednesday. Have your men ready to defend or else we shall raise RAZE the place to the ground.' "You have been warned." She says to nobody in particular, but hopes that there is a messenger from one of the gangs who pledge allegiance to Asgard listening. "Boss, they fought admirably.."  John "Wayne" had come to Somerset to personally deliver news of the loss. John had been in the operational Buzzer at the end of the fight. He had given it up to save his team mate, the psionic from the vindicators.  When he thought about it now, the thought still gave him the shakes. I could have still fought... The guns were fine, the engine was fine, the front armor had hardly been touched... "Camp has taken a beating, but all of our gear was on tour when they hit so we didn't lose any of the gangs good gear." That damn buzzer, hit me from 180m as I crested the hill, then was killing us at 160 after we took out the first two buzzers. Gunners like that, damn spooks! The fire truck was no better, shooting at 150m like that... "They used paint to great advantage, but our own smoke guns took care of that. Our allies stood strong and fast at our side throughout the fight." I don't know what to do... How could we have done better... That was all the fight we had... "The gang known as the Vermin refused to surrender at the end of the fight as we had agreed with our other allies, and they have agreed to leave Asgard. Their courier runs will be missed, but the scouts you have been training are more than good enough to fill the gap." Fill the gap, like that's enough... We need to be better, stronger... Be a buzzer on a hill that can't be touched... A firetruck in the mist... "As far as the assistance from the other members of camp, letters of thanks will be sent all around, and a counter attack is in the works already." We could have fought on, but to what gain... What hope was there from the start really.... Kimberly considered the man before her, the greatest gunner the Legion had ever known. He looked ragged, like a man with nothing left to live for.  "John, take a breather. My executive quarters here have a clean bed and safe water. You head back south tomorrow with the best crew I can spare. Start scouting the Badlands Truckstop and rebuild the losses we have taken." That night, John is alone in the Legions quarters. He sits on side of a makeshift cot, all he would accept from the Somerset crew for lodgings. He fiddles with his pistol, loaded with a single shot. The muzzle is dark and inviting, the cold still against his throat makes time slow... Some time later, Kimberly will come by to check on him and find his quarters empty.
