Hello community,

Here is an illustrated step-by-step method for targeting enemies outside the 90 degree firing arc of a weapon. When you use this option, you will be able to fire at your opponents 1 turn earlier than if you wait for them to swing into your firing arc before targeting with the standard "right-click" method.

When explained without proper visual aid, this is almost impossible to teach to a player without causing confusion, so here it goes! I hope this helps new and old players alike! (Incidentally, I only learned about this about a year and a half into my DW career! :) )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. I chose this first screenshot to present a basic targeting situation. The left extremity of my LandRunner's firing arc is extended to stress the position of my target outside my firing arc. The Sir Rocket circled in thick red will be my hapless victim today :)

http://i53.tinypic.com/21edt0w.png

2. Firstly, pull up your vehicle's "Manage" window and click once on the weapon you want to find a target for. The selected weapon will become outlined in thick red with the words "ASSIGN TARGET" written across the weapon's picture.

3. Bring your mouse cursor over the vehicle you would like to target. Click the vehicle once.

And there you have it! As you can see in the screenshot below, the Sir Rocket is targeted outside my weapon's firing arc. Although this may seem like a minor consideration to an inexperienced or careless player, the turn you don't spend targeting while your enemy is already in your arc is one more opportunity to destroy the opposition quicker, with less damage to your equipment and less injury to your gangers.

Good advice and nicely explained.

I always do this after the first turn in a combat. I try and predict which weapon would be best suited to which vehicle based on muscle cars getting to me before tanks. I may have to modify later, but it does keep me a little headstart.

Someone showed me this about 3 months ago and it is DAMN useful for that little extra edge in a tight fight.

Very nicely illustrated Groove :)

Nice one Groove!
Knew how to target like this but didn't think I could target out side my arc.

Will help my few and far between Multi-gun Monsters.

One item of note: when doing this, try not to do it when you are not 'tapped in'. Holding up the turns while you work out a bunch of advanced targeting is pretty rude. Besides, you might get so wrapped up in it that you forget to tap in (I am guilty of this)

Nice, groove :cyclops:

BTW the 'new' tutorial (written about 12 months ago - the one in Double Down) shows you how to do this. Since many of you started playing longer ago than that, you never saw it :cyclops:

Also BTW the ability to do this was only added about 1.5 yrs ago, when I was overhauling the management GUIs. This is why some of you didn't know about it before that - because it didn't exist

Pinning..

Heh, for ONCE, I'm ahead of the curve; I was playing around with stuff the first week I was here, and I've been doing it ever since. Honestly, I just thought everyone did it that way, or I'd have said something by now, too--but it wouldn't have had this cool tutorial, that's for sure! (I still haven't taken a screenshot yet!)

And that's another thing for new players to think about--as much as you tend to focus on loot, cash, and getting your gangers past 40 skills, you should also REALLY get familiar with the controls and all of the commands, too, until they are second nature. One, there is a wealth of info there (F2-4, P, and king of all, G), and two, you'll scout faster and better, which leads to more vets asking you to tag along.

Whoever first pointed this out to me (pretty sure it was you groove) it has helped heaps.

Nice little tutorial

:o um  I might be also, but then its not something you want to do in halves. Take your time, its not a race to tap in game, as long as its not every turn  I might be guilty of this too.. and i still end up shooting that HR by accident when I select Repeat fire all weapons, on a target.

especially when I talk too much

Be afraid to talk too much, you may blow yourself up with a Heavy Rocket or invite the scorn of your fellow players.

Yeah-- you're right-- this is one of those things where you do want to take your time and get targeting right, but at the same time when it doesn't really matter, make sure you're not holding things up puttering around rearranging your targeting on distant, unhittable targets.

Sometimes I hate it when I leave a gun on autofire and the the vehicle comes back into arc--- but behind a hill or a friendly car. I know I've hurt gangers that way in the past.

That's not limited to vehicles....
That kind of slip up led to Samantha Redfern blowing the head off of one of Latte's Dames in the FL pit once.... :(

Putting a hole in someones car is one thing, redding a ganger is another.
So, don't do it, it sucks.
