Seems some people have run afoul of me in the game. Some people even think I am some old player here to settle old scores. I don't car one way or the other. But I thought I would take a small moment to write out clearly how I like to play this game.

1. It isn't personal. If I do something to you, it has nothing to do with you as a person, so please don't send my angry instant messages inviting me to play a different game or call me names.

2. It is in character. If your gang does something to me, expect some payback. It is just how a gang of post apocalypse car warriors would act.

3. In casual events, I will always honor any truce request, but never ask for one. If we are in an event, and you don't ask for a truce, then I won't either and all is fair. If you want a truce, you get it.

4. In non casual events, I may not accept a truce. But if I do accept the truce. I will honor it.

5. Leagues and pro events are non casual. To me, there is an expectation of competition and all is fair. You want to red me, go for it. These are the places where we can truly test ourselves against each other. I will harbor no grudge about the results of these events, and expect the same in return.

6. Firelight is non casual. If I have a beef with you (in character) then this is the ideal place to serve up some payback.

7. MOST IMPORTANT. I refer to rule 1. It isn't personal. I will never sabotage a scout, or leave you hanging when you need help. To go on a scout carries a heavy implication of trust and teamwork, and I honor that and expect the same in return. Again, (in character), if I feel you abused that trust, look for some (in character) pay back.

Say what you will: this is the best you can realistically hope for in the DW universe.

You have my respect, sir.

When you go out on a team scout with a b armored lorry with a 74% engine loaded with guns and newbie gangers, and you get a return encounter where everybody escapes and then you beg the owner of one muscle car without ammo to help you against 7 Boss... You'll claim vengeance against that person because he can escape into town? (you can't you're enemies with the civs). you want me to commit suicide in the name of scouting because you went into combat unprepared?
THEN you act like you're accidentally shooting me in an FL glad, only to claim it as vengeance afterward, thats... in character? WATCH: event id # 123440
Your character certainly knows how to beg, lie, kill unprovoked, and expect others to tolerate it.
You named the car you claimed from the first wave of bounty hunters wasted bounty... Then drove your damaged lorry home to be fixed...
Guess that didn't turn out so well. event id # S274680

Being in character sounds like your excuse for being an [edited by Tinker], thankfully the game includes the needle and thread to stitch those shut.
Don't go poo poo on me again. If you want revenge for a stupid reason tell me up front and we'll start shooting at the same time, not pretend you don't know what you're doing till another player has to put you down with a rifle because he caught on you were doing it on purpose faster than I did.
Your character is a coward, and so are you.

That was a good hit. Your hired gang caught up to my lorry after 2 road encounters. I still almost got them though.

Well played, I wish I could order a hit and have them attack after a squad was already beat up.

Score round one to Danger Rangers.

its a game when you play it like a game... its personal when you play it like a griefer. from my experience you do. I'm not getting into a flame war, recommend this post to be locked. I'm just stating facts backed up by event numbers.

The events played like you both have posted......

I see it as being Role-Playing.

Sometimes you can outrun the running bear if you have your sneakers tied up tight.... At other times, the last thing you smell is his salmon breath!

It surprises me that people consider this role playing, but nobody has watched the original event (123440, 1 view before I went to watch it today, and I know that view was me).

I don't have a problem with vendettas, or paybacks, or any of that, but when one party pretends they don't know how to play, or that the game is glitching, how can that be role playing?

If you have a role playing beef with another gang, you should own it.

Oh, and the original event really highlights how dangerous the Gladiator Arena can be.  Even though the events usually end with 'Humans Win', they are No Teams events where everything is a legitimate target.

erm.. if i shoot someone in the back or just miss them and they shout

"are you doing that on purpose"

i'm going to say

"no.. sorry ... weapons malfunction!"

before shooting them in the back again.

saying i dont know what i'm doing or that the game is glitching to the other PLAYER is the direct equivalent of my character saying that to the target.

ie. role play

god some of you people just have no imagination

Sounds good to me Jose - I thought that was how everyone played DW - except I assume you'll respect Resigns.

BTW - Never had a problem with you in any events

If you think metagaming like that is role play, we'll have to agree to disagree.

is that the original return event? must watch it to find out why jose was so eager to lie about stabbing me in the back as a player then brag about it as a character.
i respect role players, but if you guys give this a closer look, read what he said while he was doing it...
well im not trying to make any more enemies. im just saying what jose did was uncalled for, even if it was "in character" which it was not while he was shooting me

how the #### is that metagaming? teh communication between CHARACTERS in game happens by proxy through PLAYERS. To role play what the character might say you are forced to communicate with the player not the character so you have to do it in a player to player believable fashion for it to make any sense.

sometimes Marrrkos i think you have filled your head with so much encyclopedic knowledge of teh forums that it has displaced all vestiges of common sense.

If being a jerk was role-playing, and everyone did it, how long do you think this community would be around?

You don't get carte blanche to do anything and say it's Role Play, or "It's Just a Game".

This player, who claims not to know me, came after me hard in a semi-pro event, the first event I was ever in with him. Unprovoked he continues to fire on me and ignore my resignation. That's totally cool as long as it's the established norm. But it isn't. So I lose some semi-skilled gangers. I have my doubts he isn't a friend of Joel or some person who used to hang out here.

The problem is if we all do that no one will be able to bring any skilled ganger into an event without knowing they'll probably lose them. We can do that too, sure.

I've only met one person in six months here who's acted that way and he's no longer with us. We have an established norm here of accepting resignations. If it's no longer to be expected, so be it. I didn't know it was some "brand new" player's right to change that.

Jose Bagg, if that is who he is, is bad for DW. I said the same thing about Shark and Juan Valdez(was that his name?) who got caught cheating and is gone.

It's Just a Game. Where most of us are adults and don't go for the cheap thrill of hurting other players when not provoked. Or am I just fooling myself? Perma death here means you can work very hard for something and lose it in the blink of an eye. When it's a risk I decide to take, I love that. When someone else decides for me, not so much.

You don't have to have a truce to expect the other player to honor resignations, it's built into the game and you're punished by the game if you don't.

And that's my manifesto.
