So thanks to Tango's generosity I learned that a dual CGL apache, even with a crew of 158 and 84 in BLT, sucks.

So I stripped it down and currently have it set as a

HMG/MMG, 3.2v8, FOJ rear, 2 crew and 2 reloads for the guns.

or is it better to go

HMG/HMG....with spikes in the rear?

HMG/MMG...with mines?

I'm just looking to build a well-balanced scout suv for multi-player scouts.

Thanks

All sound reasonable to me, your top suggestion can train both gun and Lgun, which sounds a good option for group scouts.

My apaches are generally gunships only, 2xHMG, side rockets (or mml or similar one side), rear MG

Yeah my apaches are almost all RL + HMG in front, plus either MG or gat in the rear. Room for driver + 2 gunners + multiple reloads as well. Simple and effective.

yup...apache number 1 is a 4l, HMG/HGG, with a rear gat... 3 crew and reloads

I just want to add a drop weapon because in group scouts in SS we always tend to run away and there's a lack of dropped weapons going on.

I use your current set-up on one of my apaches - works pretty well. Spikes might actually be better than flaming oil for disruption - the AI seems really scared of them.

Lots of guys say that. I drop em, and the AI drives right through them. Same with mines, which would be fine if their tires didn't go on either side with no effect.

On the flip side....

I was scouting with a foj and had a client crash after dropping a line of foj. On reboot the flaming oil could not be seen so I spent the next 50 turns driving around in my own flames wondering why I was taking some minimal tire damage and leaving black lines. Really didn't bother me much.

drops are cool. drops are very helpful is just the right situation. I tried them for scouts and found them too situational, more often than not I didn't get a chance to use them to any efficacy. Whether this was a failure on my tactics or a weakness in drops I'm not sure.

Guns I always use. Especially a GG side gun for finishing off vehicles that are immobile but haven't demoed.

it is true that dropped weapons are situational, but once you get the hang of them they can turn the tide of battle.

ambushes or close spawns can be turned to your favor very quickly with good placement of dropped weapons.

everyone has different tastes, but I love my dropped weapons. Mines are my favorite when most effective, nothing like throwing a pu off the side of a hill.
