The Rules Council has been discussing various issues with the squad combat leagues.

The issues relate to:
1. Combat scheduling problems
2. Certain weapons (e.g. paint) ruining the combats
3. Dislike of the recently added "1 point for losing" rule

The following changes will therefore be effective from next season (2056):

1. Allow combats to be run up to 14 days in advance of, or 7 days after, the original system-chosen time

2. Disallow these weapons from the squadleague combats: Paint Guns, Lasers and Heavy Lasers, Mortars, RGMs. I will add a warning to the squad-league webpage if you assign a squad which includes a vehicle breaking this rule.

3. The scoring system is changing somewhat: you'll now get 3 points for a win or a walkover, 1 for showing up and losing, and 0 for not showing up at all.

still getting points for losing....

what happened to disqualifying people who miss more than one game? They FORCE people to be at their computer when the other person has no intention of turning up.

the rescheduling thing is good ... the rest reflects nothing of the sensible discussion in the forums or the reality of trying to compete in these leagues and have a life (possibly because so few people on the RC actually have one)

All seems perfectly sensible to me. I'm in favour of points for turning up and losing, because it might encourage people to actually turn up. I thought that was what you wanted?

Likewise on the paint guns, even though it means I'm going to have to rethink my six-paint-guns-and-a-couple-of-real-weapons squad.

That's not feasible, goat.. being as draconian as that will simply mean that nearly everyone gets disqualified.

Strict rules are good in principal but, well.. I've learned over the last few years that you really have to figure out compromises that suit as well as possible the very different requirements of different players.

i'm entirely in favour of the paint gun stuff and the wider scheduling... but when you have given people 3 weeks to schedule a match if they dont turn up at all twice they should be disqualified.

the thing that stops me wanting to participate in the leagues is driving 4 miles on a sunday night to sit at a computer waiting for someone to turn up at the scheduled time who has not responded to PMs but who COULD allocate a squad at teh last minute making me forfeit if I'm not there.

its totally unacceptable .. it wastes peoples time in RL by forcing them to be somewhere for absolutely no good reason.

There are 2 possible alternatives I can see -

1. Squads have to be set 24 hours ahead of the match so I can see whether a squad is set before deciding to travel home

or

2. remove the automatically scheduled time altogether. If the 2 players cant schedule in the window then they both forfeit.

The second one is unfair on people who try to arrange a match. The first might be feasible but ties up peoples game resources (especially new people with few cars and crew)

So teh GOOD decision is to disqualify people after 2 no shows.

Its better to have a leage with 3 players who actually turn up than 10 seven of whom are wasting the other threes time.

end of the day its no skin off my nose. I will just drop out of the leagues and everyone else can sit around waiting for events that never happen. You have made NO penalty on people who dont turn up... If there is no penalty people will frivolously sign up to the leagues and then never play a game.

At least they can't get any points this way, so that might make people want to show up. What happens to the person left sitting there when the opposition doesn't show? Do they get no points too? If so, is there still a big case for exploit there?

Then they waste 50K .

If you force people to make a deal together or forfeit, I can see a way for people like myself, involved in several teams, deciding I don't give a crap about Div V or IV and just don't make a deal with say..FF so I can screw him totally in that league.  The passive enforcement of "you don't show up, you won't do well" is just fine.

I wish it were so, but even 9th place in Div 5 is an $85,500 prize. Even if you did nothing past paying your 50k to sign up, you got free money. (Last place is zero looks like.)

My suggestion wasn't as strict as Goat's.

If a team misses half or more of their matches during the season, remove that team from the league, BEFORE prizes are awarded at the season's end. They won't get the loot and we won't have to let them waste our time next season... But it keeps the number of matches and scoring etc. in place and fair for all the other teams throughout the season.

Sounds like Sam's done the changes he wants for the upcoming season though... we'll see if we need some more refinement next year I suppose.

Sam-

goat does make a good point here. Serephe has been gone 2 seasons, and I still have to sit at my computer and wait "just in case" he logs in to play.

If you dont show up 3 times during any one season, they should be disqualified and default the rest of the year. If you look at D3 this year, there were 6 total teams.....thats 5 matches for the year...if you dont show for the first 3, what makes ya think they will show for the last 2?

Yeah.. I see your point about non-attendees.. I'll think some more about this.

Also didn't realise you Englanders had to drive 4 miles to the nearest computer!  :stare:

What about banning psi powers in pvp matches? This is deadly, and does not count towards the total CR. Very exploitable.

Sounds like a good excuse to build yourself a newer faster upgraded desktop, so you can move the current one over to her place. That's what I did. She even plays along with me sometimes now. haha
