Is a vehicle being Renowned just like a badge of honor or experience, or does it also do anything beneficial for the gangers riding in it?

The wiki is pretty vague.

Thanks!

pretty sure there's a courage bonus for crew in the vehicle, but I think that's it.

Correct. :)

It's a bonus and a curse at the same time. The courage bonus also keeps your characters from gaining courage as well, since it takes them a lot longer to get stressed.

Was this added in only recently? The last time I saw someone ask this question, the consensus was that it was only for cosmetic purposes.

Always been there as far I know. Each fame level gives a little more of a courage bonus.

Normally in a regular car just sitting there will build up stress, but in a legendary car you could sit there doing nothing and go a very very long time without breaking a sweat. Even if an enemy is close by but not firing my guys stay cool but again they don't gain any courage from the battle.

i still think the effect should be to demoralise the enemy... not raise your courage.

its renowned because its killed a lot of bad guys... so they should be scared of it... if you are taking hits you are hardly going to be thinking....

Ah-ha! I knew it!  My 'White Heat' crew don't gain courage unless I race in against the odds and risk certain death and even then, I get like a point. 460+ ldr still has only 77 courage and 61 for his gunner. Combat Psych and courage under fire also present, I think Ive gained 10 courage for these guys since WH went renowned despite risking them many times in the front line while very close to breach. My buzzer crews gain courage much faster, and don't take much greater risks, just the obvious that its possible to be shot more in a buzzer. My voyager courier drivers gain courage faster than my White Heat crew and all they do is run away.

So in that sense, definitely a curse, and of course they seem to attract a lot more attention at the same time.

Another interesting side note. If you kick the crap out of legions of enemies, and never really get yellow or red, you don't gain any courage. I've played a bunch in the last 7 months, and my best courage is only 130ish, and that's from a guy who runs around in a paint car. My gunners in the big vehicles are all in the sub 100s save a few of my oldest who are just over 100. My leader is a 659 leadership, been in countless battles and is only an 86 courage.

It seems like you should gain courage from kicking ass completely, too... I mean, your gang are going to be rarin' to go if they're confident their leader is going to get them out in one piece.

I disagree Deathangels.

If you were on a crew that consistently kicked ass from 150m and never took a hit, then when a scout that goes south on you, were everyone runs low or out of ammo, your vehicles and the enemy's are all tangled up, and your vehicle is being rocked by 3 rockets a second, you are going to freak out FAST.

When your not used to getting your ass handed to you it hurts more. Gangers that survive every scout by the narrowest of margins are used to it, and getting tossed around won't bother them as much, because they have faith that their skills and the skills of the guys covering them will win the day.

Unless you take on a higher famed gang. My recently renowned Vulture's crew still easily went yellow up against FLMH and each picked up a point of courage afterward.

Maybe not as much courage, but having a leader whose tactics tend to keep everyone alive and bring them home should inspire courage in the troops.

Courage is not a single axis emotion, inspiration can come from multiple places.

I agree with both sides there. Successful combat will tend to give courage, but is it dutch courage, like being drunk? I agree with Famous vehicles giving a courage boost too, no they won't think that they are safe getting hit by rockets because its renowned, but more because the car has saved them many times before. This may be a false belief and have no real practical use, but i relate it to having your favourite calculator walking into an exam, or your trusty worn baseball glove. Will the car save you when it all goes south, no, but the belief of the occupants will.

I like the idea of a famous vehicle having a negative effect on the enemies morale.
And there's plenty of real world examples to back that up, so I can't say that the concept is unrealistic.

Chennault's P-40's, and Boyingtons Corsairs had that effect on the Japanese.
The Yamato and the Bismark caused a fair amount of consternation.
If you were an allied pilot and saw a red bi or triplane coming towards you in the sky over France in 1917, I would bet money that your sphincter quickly tightened....
