Unofficial Knockout Tournament

Alocalypse Advanced Race Labs Darkwind Guru Renegade Group: Members Posts: 2,236 Joined: May 6, 2007 Ok since I want more ladder action and competition I've decided to try and organize a knockout style tournament. This is all very much in the planning stages so input is welcome and everything is potentially subject to change. Competitors would be assigned opponents randomly in the first round, the loser of each match will be eliminated and the and winners will continiue to fight eachother until there's no one left to fight. The venue and cars will be fixed for each round of the knockout (but they're not decided yet, open to suggestions). The events will be deathraces (with possibly 1-2 arena combat rounds inbetween too) For arranging the individual events we can either have a fixed time when events will take place that's best suited towards everyone's timezone and availibility, or we can have a fixed time by which events for each round must take place. Me and xander will throw in 10k each for the prize fund, but any other donations of cash/rare items are welcome in case anyone else wants to sponsor this. The entry fee will be 1k each 100% of which will go in my pocket towards the prizes, the other 0% will go to charity! There's no entry fee planned right now. We need at least 8 entrants for this, preferably 16, but the more the merrier! The prize fund is $70,000 which would be distributed as follows: 1st $24500 (35%) 2nd $17500 (25%) 3rd $10500 (15%) 4th $7000 (10%) 5th $5600 (8%) 6th $3500 (5%) 7th $1400 (2%) Sponsors List: Alocalypse Xander Speedealer Of course the winners would also take a modest amount of ladder points and a bit of of respect So who's interested in signing up, what tracks/cars should we use for the different rounds and which method would you prefer for arranging the events and how should we deal with no-shows and possibly anything? Not only moneyprizes, but cars to win! Spend cars, guys! Perhaps special named cars. Some kind of prestige cars? 2. with 12-16 participants not only prices for the first 3. I like it that DW pays till the 6th. Let it depend on the number of participants I dont like the "Unofficial" part in the name, because xander and you both have official DW-gangs, so your announcement is official to me. Perhaps give the tourny a special name, like "Advanced Labs Tournament" or "Sommerset Autumn Cup" or else. Imo, much nicer for the setting and immersion of DW. 3. Would like it if we had a RP-Thread at Dex' for this to sign up for the race "ingame". (Better to start this RP-Thread when the planning is over)(Perhaps a commentator for the races who writes a few lines for the races into a RP-Thread, too? Remember, this will be written DW-history!) Do you want to hold the Tourny on one day or shared over more days? You better plan a re-race-time after (or between) the day(s), so you can catch up for races that couldnt happen in time (e.g timetrouble or connection problems). No-shows are usually a win for the one who shows up. Easy, simple, plain. For the choice of the tracks: the tracks have been rated from some players, so why not taking easy tracks in the first round and take the harder ones for each following knock-out-round? I could spare a stormer(with 5L)/marley/buggy for 1st/2nd/3rd instead of cash if I can move them to somerset from badlands safely, but then there'd be no cash prizes and I would probably keep the entry fees to myself since the value of those cars should be higher than what I was initially willing to pitch in. Let it depend on the number of participants That's going to be hard unless we get more donations for the prize fund I think, also to determine 3rd and below people have to do more races to determine their standings and the prize money wouldn't be worth it right now I think, but if we do get a lot of competitors it should be possible to offer at least the top 5 prizes. We could also raise the entry fee to offer better prizes, but I'm afraid even 1k might be too high... How bout we make the challenge bracket first and it's up to the 2 parties to figure out when the race it? Since there's a history, there won't be cheating with no witnesses And if it's not completed in the required time, they both forfeit. As for making the bracket, it would have to be random obviously and I'm not sure how to go about making that legit. 3. I'm in! And I'll throw 50k into the pool edit: 4. Oh, and I would suggest a 'no kill' policy. Yeah I meant 1k for the entire league and I think the entry fee can be dropped now since we have enough funding thanks to your generous donation I was also worried before that having an entry fee would effectively prevent non-subscribers from joining. *Speedealer* said: 2. From my time as non-sub Im pretty sure that I would join in for 1k at any time. And it just feels more adequate to the game-setting. 2. When the Tournament has now 70k cash total, would it not be clever to take entry fees and divide the money and keep half of it for an following event? (I will also throw in the few Ks I can spare and I think some more players will do it too) 3. Whats about a betting system? We just need a bookie who can handle this. 4. Isnt it more "spicey" without "no-kills"-rules?
