you all talk like this is difficult stuff to get right.. but almost all GREAT games limit resources for players...

halflife.. ammo and armoujr are really finite resources... managing these is a real challenge. get it wrong and you will be playing with pistols and a crowbar... (on hard.. who plays on easy?)

fallout 2.. ammo is a real issue by the end.. if you want to keep leveling up you start running out of accessible ammo

yard invaders - you cant throw your apples till they come down and you pick them up

etc

thi8s is the only game ihave ever got into in a big way that does not have shortages as part  of normal play. It is the one massive serious weakness.

it keeps a SMALL number of players here for years and puts a HUGE number of players off.

i love this game but sam has has got this bit totally wrong.

And I think this is the post where you said we should limit ammo. Or at least implied it?

yopu mesan the one where i sais all great games have shortages? then gave some examples where ammo was one? what you infer is your business but dont stick words into my mouth thanks

The most probable outcome I can see is ammo being bought up within seconds of being on the market,

So :

PUT A DAMN CAP on how much you can buy!

Let those useless factories in camps start pumping out ammo!

With no ammo, what will we be reverting to on scouting missions in DW, harsh language?

MG/HMG/CR/ped riffle  ammo, it should be as common as sand

Ahh... So only SOME ammo is rare. Isn't this a lot like what we have now except for now some of us have rare weapons, we just can't fire them now? Except for firing lasers that is...

I'm ok with that but regarding your camp remark. I don't know that there are any USELESS factories. And if a camp owner or three (most of whom are already part of this 'elite rich' that everyone is referring to for the "haves") decides to switch to ammunition, won't they be wracking up huge amounts of money on a commodity now in much smaller supply? I suppose the players with the rare weapons would pay the player who can make the rare ammo so the money only changes hands but I don't see how this limits player income or attempts to cap the amount a player can amass.

I will re-iterate some of the suggestions from a previous post of mine regarding money sinks which is what will get rid of much of the money that is stockpiled in this game as well as add a couple more:

Increase wages, food and water costs for higher level gangers. "I been here a long time and I deserve it!" Double the cost for gangers with skills over 100, and triple it for gangers over 200. If skill level is the cutoff that is. (I don't know what determines wage but this can be adjusted for whatever it is...)

Allow gang owners to pay bonuses to gangers to increase morale. The boss just handed out $10K a piece to every ganger member on top of normal wages, that raises gang moral by 1 for every gang member paid. Allow this to be done once a week at most.

Provide payable options for gangs like cutting repair time in half for vehicles for 4x the price.

Allow the chassis, engine and weapon modifications that I proposed in an earlier thread to come into play. Every modified item takes 4x the amount to fix that does a normal item of the same type. "That there modified 3.2L V8's gonna cost ya to get it back to 100%!" These types of modifications are not based upon vehicle fame.

Allow players to truce with NPCs that are NOT traders for MONEY on transport missions. What gang of pirates wouldn't take $50 - $100 grand for allowing someone to truce it, much like a bounty.

adding to that, why wouldn't the gangers for a rich gang start demanding exorbitant wages?  they know full well how much the gang is pulling down-- they should be asking for their part.  Perhaps money should have bulk and one shoudl have to pay to store it, like everything else.

Personally I dislike the idea of a barter system.  If I want to roll out a scout and this week's 'trade item' is something I don't have then I'm screwed because I can't fix my gear.  Since I'm not here for the long term game, but really just so I can go on scouts, all a barter system does is cripple the game for me.

On the subject of 'rarity' being core to a game: this is true--- all great games focus on some form of rarity and resource husbanding.    However, there are always resources that don't need to be managed or become 'unscarce' for higher end players over time.  The idea that ammo or money or fuel or whatever must be rare or the game doesn't work is flawed.

barter would make a part of the game that is most chore like (buying supplies, paying gangers and getting repairs etc) simple, easy and consistent.  If I start having to work out where I'm going to get enough RL rounds to pay for my gangers and vehicle repairs, then it officially becomes a chore and I don't have to pay Sam for chores-- I have enough things I should be getting done around the house.
