I think this woud only be reasonable if falling in water started to drown people as well. At the moment you can sit under water taking nothing but engine damage.

Water doesn't currently put out flames, but you're quite right that it should. I would imagine any liquid apart from the Texan tar pits would do the job. I'll take a look at it today.

my thought was this... if your car is under water and stopped you have to get out. That or you die. If the water can get in to put the fire out it can get in to drown you. Peds should have to bail from a submerged car that has a dead engine and has stopped moving.

Wouldn't we need swimming or something? Currently, underwater peds just walk around.

Well, we'll need sharks then too....and alligators.

Mean, mutated, alligators...with surly dispositions.

without adding lots of complexity... a ped 'walking' underwater is presumably actually swimming.

To be fair, a ped drowning would take around 120 - 180 turns

Once again our ignorant inexperienced friend rolls his eyes without having the faintest idea of what he is talking about. People who are unexpectedly immersed in water... such as crashing a car into a river.. typically become unconcious in between 20 and 60 seconds. this time is generally shortened by the panic reaction... for instance trying to open heavy doors, undo seat belts etc. after becoming unconcious the lungs fill immediately with water and unless ressucitated the person will .. erm.. die. These cars are full of holes and would fill with water almost instantly on immersion.

you have watched too many films where people escape from submerged cars. Holywood has a lot to answer for.

In the tar pits peds should die automatically regardless of whether their engine is dead.

Nothing should be automatic goat! Gotta leave a small chance there for a "miracle" to happen once in a while...  ;)

They wouldn't BE unconscious anyway....
I flipped a Buccy end over end 3 times, people in it were fresh as a daisy immediately afterwards! :p

If you're calm, not saying that's a given, but-

Once the pressure equalizes, you can open the doors pretty easily.
It's the difference in pressure in/out of the vehicle that makes the doors difficult to open while it's still filled with air.
The holes in the car, actually work a bit FOR the passengers, in that the car is filling faster with LESS time to panic while you're THINKING about what's going on, pressure would even out pretty quickly.
While I have not come by this knowledge FIRST hand, I have a friend or two who are in the fire/rescue business.

BUT, as we have both said, it's all about whether you freak out...so I think a "courage roll" would sort that out in a reasonable manner.

Agree 100% with the tar pits, though..
You go in THAT mess, you DON'T come out.

Furthermore, drowning would NOT apply to MY gang, as all of my gals have had enough "elective surgery" that they're all packing their own built-in flotation devices. B)

rev.. all of this is wrong.. apart from the last bit. (although i think they are flIrtation devices your girls are packing)

its EASIER to open the doors when the pressure equalises.. not easy. Topgear tested this a few years ago and the presenter found it really difficult to open the doors even when the car was full of water.

most people panic on submerge.

the unconciousness comes through the breathing reflex not the impact.

fire departments advise you to open the windows to escape as its NEVER easy to open the doors underwater.

most people who survive car crashes into water are rescued from outside. Somewhere between 300 and 600 people die every year in the states this way.

Add to that the fact that our cars do not have little flimsy doors but locked hatches., twisted metal. Small doors etc.
