Is there any way to reduce the levels of detail in the game, so that I can increase the speed that I can run the game at? Currently i'm on my notebook, and well with its built in gfx chip, it can barely handle the game. If the action gets fast and furious, its a little hard to enjoy the game.

Where can I go to edit the detail levels in the game? I know there are not many options in the game itself, but my understanding is that I could fiddle with the settings in the prefs.cs file. Anyone try that with success?

Any tips would be appreciated in feeding my addiction while i'm on the road :D

Shouldn't be too hard to have some LoD settings.

With my level of 3dstudio knowledge, it's difficult. But I'd be really interested to hear if you could do this dan.. the lack of LoD on the cars has always annoyed me :)

Just an update here, I have figured out how to do levels of detail on 3D models (basically, a lower detail model is used when the model is far enough away that you won't notice), and I'm just completing the reworking of all the car models to use this. So framerates should hopefully improve noticeably when there's several cars onscreen at once.

cool! I'll let you know how it runs.

As mentioned in the chat, I was tweaking the prefs.cs file and turning off dynamic lights and shadows helped a lot:

$pref::Terrain::dynamicLights = "0";
$pref::Interior::DynamicLights = "0";
$pref::OpenGL::force16BitTexture = "1"; (dunno if this one has effect)
$pref::precipitationOn = "0";
$pref::CloudsOn = "0";
$pref::shadows = "0.000000";

well those are the ones I set to zero pretty much. There are no weapons flashes, and there are no shadows on the cars. very flatting looking, but faster running.

This one may be a problem and a potential abuse for some missions.
I would recommend locking it to 1 after further tests.
I do use precipitations for some purpose  :)

There is also this one that might be bound to force 16 colors only: $pref::Video::only16 = "0";

Kelaparan: could you post a few screenshots with your settings, as well as the specs of your laptop, please?  :)

hmm what's a good image host to use?

you know the precipitation setting didn't actually work I think, since in the arena combat it was raining.

So far the shadows are the main thing; i'm not 100% sure on the lighting either. I'll keep a closer eye on those.
