OK, car-based weapons are done! (Hand held weapons will be coming along later)

Filling in the critical hits tables was the biggest chore, there's well over 300 unique injuries now. I have improved dropped spikes and mines so that they have a better chance of damaging people.

Tomorrow I'll propagate all the changes to the game engine.

Here's a quick list:

Machine gun, heavy machine gun >> good, reliable medium range weapons

flame thrower, heavy flame thrower >> great over short distances, good for scaring your opponents ;-)

oil jets and flaming oil jets (normal and large) >> effective when deployed on corners. They don't roll along after being dropped, unlike spikes and mines, so are easier to place

mounted ram, mounted spikes >> good if banging into people is your thing

paintsprays, smokescreens >>  negatively affects accuracy of people firing through them. Paint also sticks to windscreen affecting driver skill and gunnery

Laser, heavy laser >> takes some seconds to recover its charge to full damage effectiveness after each shot, cannot fire thru smoke/paint. Fantastic distance accuracy.

Car Cannon, anti-tank gun, tank gun >> big and nasty

Car rifle >> a (relatively) precision weapon

Rocket launcher, micromissile launcher, radar guided missile, light rocket, medium rocket, heavy rocket, mini rocket, car grenade launcher >> many flavours of explosive power

mines and spikes >> now easier to hit with

sweet lots of nasty ways to take out those pesky npcs...

any thoughts on an arena ? I know I know..too much on your list. But sometimes a huge arena can be more fun than trying to win a race, sometimes I just want to blast everyone to bits and not worry about winning a race, just staying alive =)

either way keep up the good work !

Thanks! I'll be starting on arena combats soon. The most time-consuming part is likely to be the AI, which will be
totally different to the racing AI. I'm hoping that being able to schedule your own 1-on-1 league battles will
increase the number of active players.

With regard to arena combats, what I'm thinking is that a combat will last for a predefined amount of time (a couple
of game minutes perhaps) and whoever has the most points at the end is the winner. Points are scored for damaging your
opponents, and there will be a "combat rating" defined for each car, which is like a handicapping system: the higher
your combat rating, the more points opponents get by damaging you. In fact, take a look at a car on the website and
you'll see that combat ratings are listed already: it's calculated as a combination of armour and weapons.
