I've almost got the first type of NPC missions (courier missions) ready to add, and just thought I'd post some info in here on them.

You will pick up these missions from the tavern. Each mission will involve bringing a specific package (private documents, drugs, or mail) to another town (I can add other package types, and am open to suggestions on these). Each mission will require a minimum fame and reputation rating for you to be accepted for it. (Mail missions for example need good reputations, while drug runs generally don't).

You will have 48 hours to deliver the package. If you fail (or decide not to) deliver, you can expect a substantial reputation hit, and also a (lesser) fame hit. You may also decide to sell the package (they're often worth quite a bit) and this is likely to also lose you some reputation (depending on how talkative the fence that you use to sell it).

A particularly annoyed mission client may even offer a bounty on the heads of your characters. You'll also likely meet Bounty Hunter NPC gangs on the road and in the arena. Other human players might also decide to earn a few bucks by attacking you.

These 'special' bounties will gradually disappear over time, and you'll tend towards your 'correct' bounty, which will be offered by vigilante groups on the heads of high fame, low reputation (i.e. infamous) gang members.

If you succeed in a mission, the chance of gaining fame and reputation depends on how talkative the NPC client of the mission is. (As you'll see, these named NPC clients will be shown and you may use their talkativeness - or lack of - as a deciding factor in accepting their mission).

Mail packages tend to be quite bulky though, so you might need to run a 'buggy express drug service' instead jansan ;)

400-600 bulk for mail? Is this a single unit?

Not even a van can carry that. Do you need lorrys to do mail courier missions?

I also heard that apparently there are ones with bulk in the 20's, but those got taken up real quick. I think there needs to be more, or they need to refresh very quickly. I still see only those two uncompletable ones.

Those were high rep/fame missions so they're less likely to get ninjaed away immediately and also there's a limit of 5 missions at a time per player which prevents someone from hogging all the missions or taking them and selling the cargo.

But I agree, having a choice of more missions would be nice especially right now since it's a new feature and everyone wants to try it out.

I wouldn't mind the ability to split high-bulk missions, like mail, up so you can use several cars to make the deliveries, but I like how this could make lorries more desirable.

Right Alo. I still want to see faster refresh. Like hourly or half-hourly or something. I've been here all night and there just the two incompletable ones. :(

Also, bah I think the reputation loss is a bit too harsh, I just lost ~230 rep and maybe a trivial amount of fame selling a package of drugs worth 6k, I thought you said SOME reputation :'(

Well, lying to a client should be a hefty Rep loss, especially a client that would tell everyone, and by someone that has a high rep...

Yeah that makes sense, but I think gameplay wise it makes selling packages useless because no one will want to risk a month of active scouting rep for such a small amount of pay. However if the fame/rep loss were inverted so you lose ~230 fame and ~25-30 rep points it might be a viable choice in some rare occasions when you need cash instantly, because the trade off just isn't worth it at all right now.

Also I did try picking a more discreet victim employer for my little scam, which didn't work out so well in the end, but I guess that just affects the chance to gain/lose rep and not how much you lose.

When you choose to sell a package, it's actually not the talkativeness of the client that affects whether you get a rep. loss. It's the talkativeness of the guy you sell it to - and you have no control over that.

I'll have another look at the amount of rep. loss - but it *does* need to be substantial, otherwise it's just free money.

I see there's a bounty out on your gang now alo ;-)

Yeah, but I think even a 30-50 rep loss would be substantial enough based on the time it takes to get the rep - I don't know the exact numbers but what I think is the average rep gained per combat currently means that even making up for a smaller rep-loss would take at least several [successful] wilderness combats or completed missions with witnesses (so a bit more in total realistically) to regain that much.

If someone wanted to really make decent money off selling packages they'd take out 5 of the most profitable missions first and sell them all at once - which would add up to a substantial rep loss anyway even with the smaller rep loss its not possible realistically to keep it up to get free money after burning through all your reputation (not to mention the bounty hunter stuff which I'll probably have done to me sometime soon now :p).

I'd like it to be a bit more of a linear trade off between money and reputation so that a really valuable package might indeed cost you 200+ rep points (but how much cash anyone thinks a rep point is worth varies so I might just be too much of a rep-whore)

Also, I really need to get me one of these someday now ;)

I dunno, I think selling the package (which requires no effort), deserves a heavy kick in the face.

But Alo is correct that it needs to be viable if it is meant to be a gameplay mechanic. Maybe the -230 was just bad luck with the random number generator?

Oh, and is there any hope of getting more/faster refreshing jobs? Everyone else is having all the fun, and some of us are still waiting for a new job to pop up that isn't that one mega-package job of 600+ bulk.

I realize this is brand new, so some tweaking is involved. It's a great concept, and I would like to give it a shot. :)

It depends on the client and the size of the job. A rep. loss is more likely and a bounty less likely. They get more p**sed when you actually try to sell the goods than if you just lose them.
