Hey everyone,

I was curious if there was any additional information available on psionics yet. I was also curious as to what kind of role they were going to play in Darkwind.

Will there be dramatic, high-powered things like crushing a car with your mind, sending one flying across the road, or setting one on fire?

Will it be more subtle, like skill-boosters and healing aids?

Will there be things like mind-control?

All of the above?

I realize it's still in development, just wanted to see if any more information that might not be easily accessable is available.

Thanks! :)

All of the above, pretty much. The more powerful effects will be only for very skilled psionicists, of course.

And even low-skilled psionicists will be rare.

So in mosts cases, it will only be a secondary ability that gives you an edge in racing perhaps, if used cleverly - mind-pushing your opponent at the critical time on a corner, etc.

Man, i'll tell ya this bit about psi powers makes me a bit nervous, potential game-breaker here :stare:

should be veeery rare and not at all that powerful methinks, this makes me as uneasy as Wolf's BMPs for some reason.

I do agree with Toe that psionics make me a bit nervous... And I also agree on the matter of military hardware, though I'd love to see a HMMWV or two out there :)

I would think they should be VERY rare, but have pretty awesome powers, but so rare that people would be very afraid to use them.

Also how about if you have psionics powers, you suffer a significant strength lose?

Is it going to be something that can be trained, or is it just random depending on the character?

If the latter: coudn't someone just fire gang members til they have an all psionicist team?

Or does every character have the potential to become psionic once they are very skilled?

These might be too specific questions since the system isn't in, but it can't hurt to ask. :)

I remember reading somewhere that it'd only show up if you already had a high score in some other skill so this would be very hard to do, but even if it were possible it'd get very expensive if it's rare enough...

If its unlocked by a high skill value, that should render that point of mine useless. So that's good news!

Bad feeling still hasn't gone away, potential game breaker this is, especially for players who do not have any psionics.

would you want to race against someone who can push yer prized driver into a wall and there is nothing u can do about it because you don't have psionics yourself?

I'm not too keen on this X-Men meets Mad Max bit myself, doesn't seem neccesary to gameplay and just seems a little out of place here....

There is no question that is has to be balanced. Balance is paramount. I concur with that Toecutter, and I'll certainly voice complaints if I think it is otherwise.

However, the idea itself is pretty fun! I don't think it's necessary, but I like the extra dimension it adds, especially to characters. Combined with special abilities that were mentioned for skilling up, this flshes out characters to a level vehicles are already at.

I want more stuff! Not less. :)

I'd much rather see the developers time spent getting camps, on-foot combat, motorcycles and alliances, so there certainly is more to come......

I'm looking forward to psionics in general and that's my only concern with it right. I'd rather that there would be a way to defend against psionics reasonably well if you really really wanted to.

I mean something the players can consciously do like tinfoil armor on your car or tinfoil hats for your characters that would help against psionics and not just a resist roll. Also with this there's again the chance of making psionics too weak/easy to defend against so it's really hard to balance...

I agree with Toe that I'd rather see characters on foot first, but I'd say psionics is a good second for me.

Motorcyles might be 4th.

It could make things very interesting, like just nudging a car in a tight bend ;)
There have to be negatives to the power, like you can only use it once or twice in a race. Also if the character is doing something else like driving or gunning, it should severly lower their skill in that for at least the turn in which they use their psionics, maybe even a couple of turns after. I mean, it would take a hell of a lot of concentration to use your mind like that, and it probably drains you quite a bit.

I was thinking maybe every time someone uses psionics there is a very small chance their brain would melt XD

I like the way M.W. thinks. Some serious drain from using them, that might be a good balancing measure.

I think if there was psionics, It would have to be balanced.

EX. You use a psi skill and your stress goes up ## etc.
