I'm going to be on a laptop for a bit, where I can access the DW front-end (lobby) but not launch actual play sessions. I heard once that I could sign gangers up for events and not attend the events, and the gangers would still participate in the event, as an AI-controlled character. I'm thinking of doing this to train up some drivers. Just regular Races, not Deathraces or rena combats; I figure the odds of them getting seriously hurt are less in regular races.

But my question is, is it true that your ganger will participate in the event they're registered for, and potentially receive skills and maybe even prize money, even if you (the player) are not there? And of course, possibly die, yes....

In a town event, the vehicle auto-escapes after 30 moves if the owner hasn't logged in. I'm actually going to be removing any training and prizes earned this way, when I get around to it -- it's an exploit in my opinion rather than valid gameplay.

OK, good to know. I won't do that, then. I just was thinking of it as "extreme training."

Agreed.

I tried this myself when I started, when I accidentally signed up for two events... my driver ended up in a coma after a nasty deville accident ;)

"There! I finally got it reloaded, sir!"

"Good! Now go help the medic practice."

"But how do I ---- aaaagh!"

That's just so wrong, man.

I am curious how medic skill actually trains, though. I have heard it only trains when a medic stop someone bleeding out. If they lose an arm, the medic just shrugs. "Can't fix that." If they don't take a serious injury, the medic just shrugs "Don't need me." So he apparently learns only when gangers take very dangerous - and very specific - types of injuries.

Sam could you maybe give a little feedback on this?

Also IMO medics should gain a little more training when you have injured gangers in your gang that are not in the hospital (maybe an extra 1 a week for the highest skilled medic?) Just a thought.

Question re: training. I understand that the training "tick" is on Friday mornings. But does making a training change mid-week affect training skillups for the week? That is, if I have a ganger training Driving for 3 days and Large Guns for 4, might I get small improvements to both skills for that week? Or does the system only look at the Training setting on Friday morning when it compiles the results?

*blush*  Sam likes my stuff.

I should probably go make sure it's up to date.  I've tweaked a few things personally since then.

OK, let me make sure I understand correctly.  Sorry, I'm dense and a noob... a dangerous combo.    :cyclops:

This means the setting is only read when training increases are compiled on Friday morning, then?

And so, another noob question:  Do my gangers gain skill from custom events I set up?  So, if I set up a custom arena combat event with just my gangers in it, (no NPCs and no other players) and have them shoot at each others' cars, can they gain skill from that?

I hope this doesn't count as an exploit.. I'm not trying to exploit, just to set up some training exercises for my dudes.

No. You can gain skill from requested events (Races, Deathraces, Combats, etc.) where the computer picks the track, car, and NPC enemies, but not one where you control all of the details.

Well at least you're not a dense noob who enjoys playing with dolls  :cyclops:

Yes everytime Friday 04:00 server time hits, it will only level up whichever skills you've set.

IIRC, you don't gain skills from custom events, to prevent people from "grinding".

They're not dolls, they're "Fine Scale Miniatures!"  At least, that's what I tell my wife.    ;)

Note also that the training camp can train up to 5 points a week in a skill, or even 7 for a skill it specializes in (driving for SS, medic for elms).  I myself pay close attention to this and am a bit rougher on my idiots who only gain 1 or 2 a week. The 5 a week guys are gold. They get the chushy job of going on easy scouts or just hanging around SS and training all the time.

So I carefully recorded all my gangers' skills and tracked them, pre-training tick and post-tick.  All are in SS, training Driving.

The result?  +3 points was the average.  A few got +2, a few got +4.  Two received no skill increase, but they were in the hospital so that may have been it.  But no one got five or more.

Does that mean my gang is just really lame?  It kinda seems that way.

Those numbers look about average.  They will go up after extensive exposure to a motivator, but not dramatically so (double at the most).

The word "extensive" is actually quite important here. What a motivator does is increase the upwards trend in training form. Hence it takes some time to start realising the benefits.
