OK I think I figured out the difference between my observed results and 4saken's. First, he most likely has a motivator. Second, his gang's PVP flag is set to "Yes." Between those two, I would expect it would explain the difference.

So +3 is the average for town training? OK.. will take that into account for my plans.

From what I can gather, I think 1 is the average.

It looks to me like the training algorithm is something similar to:

1 base
x2 if in a training center
x2 if town specializes in the skill
x1/2 if town is deficient in the skill
xTraining form (0.4 - 2.0)

This would give a number between 0.2 and 8 which is consistent with observations.

In SS, which specializes in driving, you are training driving in a training center, so by my estimation you should see as an average:

1x2x2x(average training form)

which would place your average training form between 0.8 and 0.9

A motivator will bring up your training form.

Sounds like a solid theory, Proc. I've got everyone switched to "Gunnery" for this week, so after the next training tick I'll gather data to see how this matches.

If my theories are correct, you should see an average of 1 or 2. Probably 1 (actually, probably 1.8 or so, which should, from our quantized view of Evan, look like 1).

Are you sure you have all the factors in? E.g. is the current skill level in anyway influential on the result?

I believe the rate declines after reaching the 'half-way' point towards a skill's cap.  Near the cap itself, training crawls.

There is also a bonus for having a member past a certain age (30?) with 100+ in a skill - they provide a bonus to lesser skilled members training that skill in the same town.

Nope. Just theories.

I haven't seen anyone show evidence of a ganger receiving more than 8 points in training per week, which leads me to believe that 8 might be the cap, and the statistical evidence I have observed leads me to believe that my theory is at least plausible.

I think Sam has stated that the mentoring age is 36, and I am unaware of anyone who has any gangers that old, so I don't think mentoring is playing a role in training at all right now.

Aha!

Game Info said:
Skills can be trained (abilities cannot). The rate at which a character trains in a skill is affected by: their natural ability; whether they are using a personal trainer; how good their current form is; and, how much practice they are having in the skill in live events.

Each character has a natural ability level which is effectively their capacity for excellence: it is impossible to guess but it becomes apparent as the character's skills rise. Natural ability sets a 'cap' on the level that a characters skills can reach: some gifted characters have a much higher natural ability than normal. As a character goes beyond 50% of their natural ability in a skill, its training will slow down and eventually stop. The 'average' natural ability level is 150. Gifted characters can have a natural ability level of 300 or more.

I didn't see info on the training bonus from 'elders', but I'll dig around a bit more.

Whilst I acknowledge the halfway marker, I have a feeling there is a background effect based on skill. E.g. I have a a guy that is 78 capped, he continues to train 4-5 points every week in whatever skill until he hits cap, he never really appears to be slowing down (or maybe I am just noticing it too well).

I like your theory Pro seems like a solid start.
