Sam's suggestion/to do list must be two volumes by now, and I for one often look forward to what is around the corner...

I did want to pipe in and express my undying gratitude for the 'auto configuration' options. What an awesome feature!

Also, even though it breaks my heart to see a damaged v8, I think the item degradation feature was an intelligent thing to implement as well.

Kudos!

P.S. When is that Sarsfield track going to show up? ;)

Sam thanks for this game...really thanks. Sorry for any incidental bitching.

Doc, I understand you did some of the maps, thanks to you too.

Thanks to everyone else that helps Sam out with this game.

Indeed Sam, thanks for giving me a giant time sink to enjoy myself with.

And sorry for constantly breaking it. :P

Yea Sam, I gotta say item degradation was a genius move on your part. This is coming from one of the biggest opponents of it when it was implemented.

And Im not much of a racer, but I have a hotrod in Sars waiting to try that new track there out...

Keep up the great work!

I have to add on my thanks to a game that keeps me coming back time and time again. Sam is an outright genius if you ask me. What a unique game, and downright evil AI that constantly amazes me. Having a badlander snipe at me from a small cliff was my latest OH WOW moment with the AI. Darn thing did some pretty good damge too before I could get to it. Kudos Sam !

I like to avoid the bubbly, emotinal posts -being of an incurably cynical nature- but I have to extend a heart-felt thanks to Sam for making such an awesome game.

I categorically refused to pay a monthly fee to play online games in the past and that conviction was rock-solid. This policy still stands stong but an excception is made for Dark Wind.

Heh, thanks guys :cyclops:

Just checking in from Spain..
I'll have better internet access from next week so will catch up on stuff then..

RE sarsfield track - yes, DM I'll get to it soon! Sorry for delay. What I actually want to do it write a 'just-in-time' patching system for maps/tracks - currently each new map/track adds approx 1MB to the client download and makes me quite uneasy since many new players never even visit these maps. My just-in-time will (i) let me reduce the core download by several 10's of MB, and (ii) let me be more encouraging to you guys to produce new tracks and wilderness maps.

I'm guessing that means instead of an upfront download, the maps will be downloaded as-needed?

Honestly I'd take the game as-is from now on, I hope the subscriptions will simply give Sam incentive to not turn everything off for a very long time....

I've often described DW in hushed tones, knowing few will understand my utter devotion to this game. I have so little time, and yet I ferret out an hour or two here and there and always come away stunned at what a great game this is. Where so many games have lost the spirit of the afternoon with friends this game has actually broadened my circle of friends and kept me up well past bed time over and over.

"Well I play this game that's kinda Mad Max-ish, but it's really about growing a group of people to survive in this wasteland. What's best is that it's a giant international collaboration between a lot of people who all care about improving the experience. The solo developer, this crazy Irish genius, just keeps listening and trying new ways, and we all see our ideas come to life." that's pretty much how I describe it.

For my part I've seen amazing improvements in the overall "experience" that will only be capped by the website overhaul...and motorcycles Heh. Oh, and what about (thinking way out here) a story generation wizard? I really think the potential for DW lies trapped in our collective imaginations...just waiting to be knit together in a dynamic and every changing player-written narrative that we can all play together.

But most of all, Sam, thanks for actually doing what every one of us has wished we could have done...

The CEOs of all the world's breweries met at a huge conference.  At the social event that evening, they all got together at the hotel bar.

"I'll have a Bud, " said the CEO of the Budweiser Brewing Company of America.

"I'll have a MGD," said the CEO of Miller Brewing Company.

And so on until they came to the CEO for Guinness.  "I'll have a Pepsi Cola," he said to the waiter.

Turning to the stares of the other CEOs, he shrugged.  "If you guys aren't going to drink real beer than neither am I."

I just entered a League race on my own against the AI, hoping for the easy 20 points.

Sam's new AI kicked my butt all over the place, and I was lucky to get fourth against them. Adrenaline filled the whole way through it.

You rock Sam.

I've been here nearly four years.
I've seen the addition of multitudes of towns and race venues, most of which was made by players.

I've seen many ideas from players used in the game.
Most of them are still in Sam's "to-do" books.

I've seen some BEAUTIFUL 'paint' on the cars offered here ALL done by players!

I've seen weapons and engine additions here that enhance the game-play and player experience while keeping a balance to not make one car or weapon so strong that we ALL strive to gain the deadly combination and be unbeatable. Even our BEST gangers can be killed when we use our deadliest vehicle! PERMADEATH RULES!

I've seen many players come and go.
A lot of them come back with warm welcome from the community players who remember them.

Sam, being the sole developer of this game, has spent countless hours behind the keyboard. Between his Professorial duties and family life, Darkwind has a part of our life I don't think HE even envisioned!
it's a wonder he is not divorced and a hermit living on the moors!

KUDOS to you Sam....

I'd like to take a moment to thank Grograt for his even handed moderation of these forums. It seems to be something of a thankless task but I for one really appreciate that we have a sensible, mature gentleman such as himself keeping an eye on things. Thanks to Sam as well for supporting/ endorsing the moderators and recently clarifying their role, leading to what will ultimately be a more mature, relevant and informative forum.

Agreed, moderation is required to any civil discussion.  We're all passionate about the game, sometimes to the detriment of the discussion.  These are real people on the other end, and they care about DW just as much as you, they just don't share your opinions.

Thanks Grogat!

nothing is worth that.

It could just be me playing a little less, but my cars are coming home more beat up than usual, more dead comrades are being left behind in the field, and more and more often I'm glad to just be back in town getting repaired.

This game we all play is getting more fun I think.

Thank you Sam.
