Demolition Derby, Your input is needed

*Rahn*

Posted May 23, 2009, 9:13 am
I am interested in putting on a Demolition Derby. The details still need to be worked out but basically it would be this:

Everyone will use the same type vehicle.
Each gang will be allowed only one vehicle.
The only weapons allowed will be a front and rear mounted ram.
Each vehicle will have a roll cage.
Driving Skill will have a maximum.
Winner will be the last man standing (so to speak).

There are a few things that need to be determined before this can actually happen. The first two are: Is there enough interest to continue with this idea and which vehicle would be used.

Please make your choice from those listed. The chassis that gets the most votes is the one we use for the derby. MercuryBoard only allows for 15 items in a poll so I was not able to list all vehicles. If you would like to use one not listed, please post it here.

Thanks for your time and interest. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or input, please feel free to speak up.

Voted Moray out of those on show, think it needs to be something with a 5l v8 for that quick surge of pace when you see an opportunity to ram some ones side.

That or a 5l v8 Pike . This is something i would definetly be up for if event time was right for me

Nice idea! I voted Moray too, needs to be something capable of good acceleration. Make sure to pick a non-slip terrain if possible so we don't spend all the time wallowing and sliding

What's to stop you avoiding all contact then? Needs to be some incentive to ram each other? -- might be better done as an arena combat so we have scoring

If I may:

In your typical American county fair-type demolition derby the winner is the last car or cars left standing. Judges are on hand to make sure that nobody is hiding in a corner or whatnot, and the arena is so small that nobody can really escape, anyway. Also, if you don't move for x amount of time you are disqualified.

Seems to me your option, Rahn, is to hold it like the traditional derby or like a combat. But in a derby there would need to be judgery.

Of course you may PT.  I think running it as a combat is the way to go.  Since there will be no weapons, the only way to score will be to ram the opponents or to make a lap.  That should prevent anyone from shutting down until they are the last one left then starting up again to claim victory.

Actually you can't..
it could be done as teams, I guess... last team to have a car that can still move is the winner

Or you could just code in arenas and racetracks Sam ;)

3.2L Flash.

Fast, handles extremely well, and has weak armor. :)

How about a push cart race. Two teams (or more I suppose) get a bus with no driver. The objective is to use the other team cars to push the bus around a track. First team to push their bus across the track wins. :)

I'm interested! How bout something with a 3.2v8, 2 rams and 1 rear RB for those quick hits. May be more tactical when you only have 4 boosts of super speed.

For this, how about typical arena scoring, and last one conscious with the highest score wins. Surely that code is already written, right Sam?

I voted Moray also, biggest unexposed engine, RI ram in back, reg ram front with front spikes!

Run it on the arena with scoring poles. The incentive is to stop others from scoring too highly.

If it's ran as teams, I envision it like a "Roller Derby" type event with rammers, blockers and scorers. Is there anyone else alive that remembers "Roller Derby?" :D

If no teams, it would be a "Free-for-All" event last vehicle running is the winner. Auto-Surrender once the engine is incapacitated would need to be somehow enforced. :o

That actually is a good idea! You'd have to make use of the RI Ram in back!........ Everyone driving in reverse trying to make the other guy go BOOM till their rear armor is almost gone, THEN hitting with your front end HOPING you don't go BOOM!

That sure resembles a real demo derby.

i voted moray, but would like bus or lorry with RB's.
Any chance of tracks and arena's in DWT:T?
*sam*

Posted May 24, 2009, 10:30 pm
I could put tracks/arenas in easily, yes. It'd be a bit of work to put the arena scoring system in, though.. I guess if were a 'last man standing' system that wouldn't matter.
