S797 Bashers Rogues vs. Holy Rollers Gates of Somerset 2007-04-11 20:01:33

I could not get to the loot screen.....it kept showing the 'inspect' screen for my last target! Every time I moved the cursor, when it stopped the 'inspect, shoot, repeat shoot prompt would show.'

I tried everything. Shift, control, option.. nothing worked to allow me to click on the looting prompt to get to the looting screen!

Me, Ace and mamba spanked a heavily armed escort for the sole purpose of gaining cars. Mamba and Ace were allowed into the looting screen I was not.

I lost out on a bunch of loot and cars!
I asked ace and mamba to take what they could and split it with me..
They graciously agreed..

BUT!
I lost out on a good deal of cars in this fight!
I figure about 30k with cars, motors and weapons!

You're referring to the OK button on the little window that says looting is about to start? - I'll put in a timer so it automatically clicks after say 20 seconds if you haven't done so. Thanks..

S914 Bashers Rogues vs. Desert Hyenas Gates of Somerset 2007-04-14 21:14:28
=================

I just fought this and won! On the looting page I could click on my cars and move gang members to the 'waiting' area so I could move cars into my loot, and drive them away.
I moved the people to the staging area, and moved the looted car into the loot box.

I then moved a car rifle and 5 or 6 tires into the cargo space of the looted cars and my cars....splitting the load between them. I looted a Desert tank and a Vampire Striker. When I finished loading one car to its limit I clicked on another to load.... The previous one disappeared. This continued till it showed NO cars in my box.

I now have only the Striker and no DT, tires or Car Rifle..
I know, I should be happy with the car but I was 2 against 3!

I have my initial fighting cars and the Striker but no Tank or car-rifle or tires I took from the loot.
==========
Hmmmm
Now I dont have the Striker either!
hehehe
Strange things going on here!

Hmm that one is strange jd, I can see nothing other than the desert striker being created as loot icons in the game log. You're sure you saw a desert tank icon?

What happened to the striker in the end? I can see in the game log that it was successfully created in the database and assigned to you.

I managed to track down some strange behaviour in the code which *might* be the cause of occasional disappearing loot icons. What concerns me is that the behaviour doesn't seem consistent, not does it apparently happen to everyone.

Anyway, we'll keep a close eye on it.. please keep reporting anything strange, obviously it's important to make the looting process bug-free!

I have one Striker and won a second along with a DT, I first looked in my 'gang page' to see if it was there, the striker was there but the DT was not. When I went to town to do some checking that maybe it was a problem with the gang page, the Striker and the DT were not there.

I was worried that the cars I had in the loot box were disappearing as I finished loading them. So I continued looting till I could hold no more and finished and exited. I don't know what they were worth since I don't know how much armor I would have had to replace.

I'd like the cars, but if it's too much trouble, no need to worry about it. Hoping you can get the looting problem worked out first.
Just a thought: Could it have been mac related? I just don't want the problem to be coming from my mac and making you chase non-existent bugs.
*sam*

Posted Apr 16, 2007, 1:35 pm
It might be Mac-specific (although I think that's unlikely in this case), but even so that would still be a bug, and one that needs fixing!
*Speedealer*

Posted Apr 17, 2007, 12:56 am
It's still buggy for me too sam. I find if I plan ahead and highlight my car just once (not click on it, then another, then back to the first 1), it won't disappear and I can work around the bug for now. But it is definitely still there
*sam*

Posted Apr 17, 2007, 10:22 am
Speed- do you think it's consistently the 2nd time you click a vehicle that the problem happens?

- or, at least, it's never the first time you click it?

thanks..
*Speedealer*

Posted Apr 17, 2007, 5:45 pm
to the best of my knowledge, it is only the first click, yes. And the disappearing now seems to be limited to the vehicles, not supplies or tires.

jd.basher@charter.net

Yes noticed last night the tires and supplies 'seem' to be stable now. I'm able to click hold and drag a unit, it stays visible while under the click and moves to the appropriate box when released.

The vehicles, once clicked a single time moved from their original position a few mm up and to the left in the origination box. Don't know if the movement has anything to do with the disappearance problem with vehicles.

new info: If you click and drag an item from window to window, it works ok. I could drag the same item repeatedly. If you click and drag just enough so the item icon 'offsets' a bit, that where the problem starts. You can still drag from window to window, but if you just click an offset item again (no drag), it disappears.

I'll try to make a movie for ya ;)
*sam*

Posted Apr 17, 2007, 8:47 pm
Thanks for the detail- this will definitely help me to narrow it down.

When you say an 'offset' item, you mean the item fails to snap back properly to its 'home' position when you release it after not moving it to a different box? - I can see why that might lead to the item becoming 'orphaned' and not being located in any box, hence disappearing.

- I do remember seeing weirdly placed icons that hadn't 'snapped home' in some screenshots from djfou a week or so ago, but strangely it refuses to ever happen to me.

That's the 'offset' I described. The car seems to snap-back a few mm from it's original home position. I also made the mistake of accidentally 'double-clicking' an object (tire in this case) and a vehicle a few days ago. they disappeared. Maybe that's where the Striker and DT went...

Correct!

Could just be a mac thing?

I just managed to recreate the problem, finally. It took some frenzied clicking for about 30 seconds. Either you're a crazed bunch of guys or (and I comfort myself with this possibility) the Mac is more prone to it.

Making progress anyway... I have managed to bring the offending car back onto the screen.

edit: I think I can see the problem. If you move the item a minute amount (as happens when you click it to 'open' it, but don't actually intend to drag it anywhere) and then click it again within a split second before it has finished returning home, the bug is triggered: it registers its 'home' position as being its position relative to the screen top left, not its parent box's top left.

Crazy is more like it....No sane person would intentionally drive 80k Lbs of Detroit Steel down a mountain steep grade with brakes that tend to over-heat and fail at the most inopportune time! (Speaking from experience) You are no longer considered a Truck Driver if this happens..... Just a man strapped to an 80k lb rolling missile.

OK, I've patched in the fix. I'm reasonably confident this was the problem :-)

Thinking about it, it was probably more likely to happen on a slower computer, so this might be why some of us were plagued by the problem and others couldn't even get it to happen on purpose.

I'll go check out the other looting problem where cars that never existed in the event turn up for taking (this one is a totally different problem of course, most likely a half-created car object that somehow exists on the server but was never quite completed and so it has no 3D model).

S988 Bashers Rogues vs. Xena's Angels Gates of Somerset 2007-04-17 20:56:59
================================

S986 / I looted a badlander. It was shown as a "ghost box" No 3d image.
I was able to load a driver in it and cargo. It did not show up in my list of cars.
=================================
S988 / Speed and I knocked off a Blitzer, Striker and a symphony. I looted the striker 3d visible. But...I could not access my DT to get my gunners to drive it away. I clicked on my DT, trying everything to get it to come up.......No Joy! Maybe I need to click on my DT first to access my gunners and move them into the waiting box.

So.......I'm getting frustrated here! I fight and kill them but cant get them! with fixing armor, reloads and no looted cars, I'm out at least 25k

yup. do that until sam squashes this bug. and plan ahead. If you have 3 guys in 1 car, take out 2 at the same time if there's 2 cars to loot. If you have to go back for another driver, you may not be able to get him.

Sorry guys.. what's happening now is that car icons are getting 'stuck' and unclickable, is that right?

Do they get stuck slightly away from their correct 'home' position?

Does it happen on the first click as well as subsequent ones?

jd: you seem to have private messaging turned off?

#1 yes

#2 S988 the Striker was slightly overlapping my DT. I could not click either car after adding the striker to box

#3 If I had clicked on my DT first "I may" have been able to remove drivers. But after adding the Striker to the box, had I been able to remove drivers for looted cars, I dont think I would have been able to click it (DT) again so I could add tires and weapon reloads

Messages turned back on...my bad!

No need for apologies. You are doing your best, I know this. I can only imagine how frustrated you get reading about the problems we are experiencing and being the only one able to fix it!

That's why it's called 'beta-TESTING'! (I'm the one who needs to remember that!)

Your dedication is very much appreciated Sam.

Thanks jd, your dedication is also appreciated!

I've just patched in another slight change which I'm hoping will fix it. I couldn't make the 'stuck' problem happen at all unfortunately, so I can't really tell if this will work. If it doesn't, I'll try something more radical.

I spent the last couple of hours preparing Gateway and its associated wilderness maps for adding to the game! - not quite there but hopefully they'll be ready this evening. The Gateway map is another complex one like Somerset. And I'll think you'll like it, it's way cool. The road maps are pretty funky too- ViKKing's 'pre apocalypse highways' feature in them.

Played one alone tonight, seemed to work good. I was being extra careful to not move the cursor as I clicked my own cars to access gunners. Once clicked though they still move away from their 'home position' by a little bit.

Worked good with more than one person also as Vikk said. (except for the 'home position problem on my end. Maybe just a Mac thingy.
*sam*

Posted Apr 20, 2007, 12:39 pm
If you can muster up the courage jd, can you try not being careful the next time? - do it as a test mission perhaps. I'm unable to create the error on my own computer so it would be great to hear from someone who did suffer the 'unclickable cars' bug that it has been fixed.

If they move away slightly from their home position, that's not a big problem, as long as they can still be clicked after that!
