Camp Scouting (Server-patch)

*sam*

Posted Apr 17, 2009, 12:54 am
I have just implemented scouting from camps.

A successful scout:
1. Helps the camp's local piracy rating, which helps versus NPC attacks (not yet implemented),
2. Grows the camp's fame but within a fixed cap. (Fame growth from camp-v-camp pvp combats is not capped).

I'll keep a close eye on camp-scouting combats for a few days, and rebalance camp-fame changes as necessary.

-- if anyone can post the ID numbers of camp-scout combats they do, that'll help.. :cyclops:

will do, will keep track and report as necessary. this officially means the end of somerset mega scouts I'm afraid folks.
Mad Mike

Posted Apr 17, 2009, 1:54 am
and this cap, is that cap on all scouts or cap per person? meaning if the cap is 100 points dopes that mean 100 points per player or 100 points for ALL scouts?
*sam*

Posted Apr 17, 2009, 2:12 am
The cap is actually a ceiling on how high a camp's fame will go through scouting. It can go higher than that thru pvp combats, league sponsorship and other ways we may dream up..
Mad Mike

Posted Apr 17, 2009, 2:20 am
already been suggested, how about a camp team sponsorship? when you join a race you can choose who you want to drive for including your own team? the cost of car is taken from the camp owner if someone other than the camp owner drives it.

to entice people to drive for the camp the camp owner can put up an amount of money that the player earns PLUS the prize money from the race.

this can also be for scouts. the camp owner puts up vehicles with the camp logo and players can use the vehicles in a scout to earn fame for the camp.

also, a camp can sponsor a race at a particular time and put up the prize money. more races sponsored more money it costs.

instead of having a sponsorship for the whole season, just have sponships of each event.

Excellent point Mike.....

Like he said, it was already suggested, but this addition would be a nice one for camp members AND owners.

Hmmm, getting quotes to work is harder than I thought.

Nooooooooo!!!! Not the end the Mega Scout! It was only way my ragtag gang was getting any decent loot. Oh well, back to more months of DRs...

Don't give up on them yet... :) If I still had an MM Lorry I'd do them. Mech points at camp aren't quite enough to support a lot of repairs yet, so I'm not sure how much scouting ONLY from camp is going to work...

Hmmm.  So that means that if a camp does a bunch of pvp first, and reaches that cap, then they'll get no benefit from scouting?

Good point, Kime. There should probably be an allotment of points allowed for scouting from camp which rises and falls basically like Morale fame and rep do now so that there is a point in scouting from camp. For instance, you could get a max of 100 points of camp fame from scouting from camp. Whether you have 150 camp fame or 800 fame but have never scouted from camp, you could still get an additional 100 points.

Unless, of course, this isn't an aspect which anyone desires to encourage.

I wonder if that's feasable, I don't imagine the players of ss spliting to camp(s) and stationing their gangster on standby out of town hence loosing  precious training days

What exactly stops two players, say Alo and Latte, from taking turns killing each others new-recruit gangers in crappy cars for a mutual massive boost in their respective camp fames?

Seems like some easy exploits lurking here.

Sam-
Did you forget to populate the area outside of camps for scouting? Im just driving.....been waitin glike 25 minutes and no encounter. Mad Mike having same problem
Mad Mike

Posted Apr 18, 2009, 2:13 am
I have thought about that exploit too.... declare a 'war' and only fight with non skilled gangers and weak cars. No way to really stop it unless someone else notices....

we have enough workload hours to repair cars from mega scouts. in mega scouts the cars are not damaged too much.

I have many mechanics working the mech shops at camp so I couldnt pull them out of the camp long enough to mega scout in ss.

I can pull my characters not working the mech shops and so some big scouts.. we'll see what happens

doesnt seem to be any pirates to hunt scouting from camps sam... i guess we wait for the system to populate around the camp.

No, I thought of this. The fame gains are based on the damage done to valuable assets and high-skilled gangers. If you fight with new recruits you'll probably gain no fame.

Does it work when you hunt for any pirates? I didn't have it give you a list of specific high-profile gangs.

Nope. I only had a few options, none to target specific gangs. It just had me scouting, and scouting, and scouting. Was liek 20 minutes and no bite. I then stopped and tried again, and waited....nothing. Same thing with Mad Mike

Posted Apr 18, 2009, 6:58 pm
Hmm yeah I can see the problem. I had the server searching for enemies based at your camp rather than the local town. D'oh. Gimme a few mins..

edit: ok, bug fixed. Can you let me know if it works now?

Works now Sam, Thanks again.

PS
It was very cool using my camp mechs again. I loaded one of them up in my Flail and had him drive. Seems he gained some driving skill chained to SP's mech bench the last year. :)

Until the bug fix, my "scouting" from camp was a cancelled travel, but I agree - using the camp mechs to help them gain a little more AND use their 100+ lgunner skill was VERY nice. :)

Ive scouted twice from camp. First time Fame increased 140, next time 0. Something not adding up correctly?
hallen

Posted Apr 19, 2009, 7:33 pm
Yep same here - 1st time scout netted me 122 points of fame.
2nd scout got me 0 points. Both scouts 'won'.
*sam*

Posted Apr 19, 2009, 8:01 pm
Can you tell me the event IDs? I have the exact fame points logged as they're scored. As I said elsewhere, the key thing to gaining camp fame is scoring serious damage to skilled characters and their equipment. Knocking out low-skill characters will have marginal effect.

The fame gains you noted actually suggest to me that I have been over-generous and you hit the scouting-fame-cap after just one event.

Balance tweaking will definitely have to happen here, the scaling of initial fame gains were really just an estimation/guess.

S103360 for the 122 fame jump - thought that was a little high!
S103604 for the 0 fame jump.
Thanks

S103350 -140 fame gain
S103602 - 0 fame gain

Sam - have only done one so far (non-travel that is) - S103555

Gained 158 in it, but it was 9 enemies I think (which can be big for SS area).

I also damaged TWO BPU chassis with one HRR. :( That's twice I've tried to use it - had a good chance to hit - good gunner - good range - stationary - no LOS issues with the ground - and both times it's hit the ground near the BPU and done damage to chassis & cargo. Anyone else having this issue? Is it because of the side mounting?

Not using it for now, until I find out from others...

Yeah, it's as I suspected.. poorly estimated calculations for fame gains. I'll rebalance these now...

No, like Serephe said - Heavy Rocket Rack.

I put it on the front of a Windy II that's being repaired at camp, along with a RL. Will try it out on it...

S103555 - which I already posted
S103682 - got zero - sounds like you're right about the "too much too quick" theory

Incidentally, Sam, I like the 'highly skilled gangers and expensive equipment' thing, but I'd suggest one other thing too: make attacks on completely unarmed cars earn no fame, even if you have a skilled ganger in it. How famous could taking an unarmed car make you?

just the attack would get you noticed i would think.

and the camp owner would retaliate

Why would we want to encourage driving around without guns, and I think a kill is a kill.

If you caught some badass who had killed 100s of pirates driving around in an unarmed muscle car while he thought he safe for a drive it word would still get around.

Remember this isn't rep this is Fame, You can be famous for being a ruthless killer just as easily of not more so for winning gunfights. I can think of quite a few people who are "famous" (more infamous really) for similar situations.

got 80 fame from it. Now the question arises about the bounties. since butane had bounties would i be a somerset local hero then since i scouted towards somerset 50 miles to find them?

or any distance for that matter? I didnt get hero status for somerset. killed quite a few of them, some had to have high enough skill.

How on earth is that encouraging driving around without weapons?  You can still be PvPed, PvPing you is simple and poses no risk whatsoever, and you can still have your car stolen and your ganger killed.  The opposing team not getting a fame boost gives you no advantage whatsoever, and the opposing team still gets a significant advantage from PvPing you (your car), all for absolutely no risk.

Talk about reflexive, totally un-thought-out responses.

Yep.  And it'd make you sound like a wuss for going after him while he was defenseless.  (Plus, of course, the vast majority of the people who would be driving around like this are completely inexperienced gangers, not badasses who have killed hundreds of pirates.)

Well, that's fair enough.  But if you're in a gang in, say, inner city Los Angeles, and you strut around telling everyone you killed an 80 year old woman and her 3 year old great granddaughter and bragging about how tough that makes you, you're not going to last long.  It makes people think you're mean and a coward.  Is that the same as fame?

I think mike's 'official end to mega scouts' quote came before I allowed scouting from town towards camp, and before I added bonuses for multiplayer scouting, putrid. I think mega scouts are probably more likely than before, now.
