Darkwind:Tactical provides player-defined wilderness combats using predefined vehicles and characters.
DW:Tactical is 'just for fun' and has no impact on the Evan game-world. This makes it ideal for scheduled multiplayer PvP play and for those players who prefer to be able to play combats without needing to build up their own resources in a persistent game-world. You get to choose the map, the precise vehicle configurations and characters involved. You can also set a time/date and password for your event so that only invited people can participate. |

FAQ question 1:
Can I play DW Tactical when I'm not online? Say, for example, when I'm on an 8-hour airplane flight? -KD |
||||||
*sam* Posted Mar 26, 2009, 10:14 pm |
No, DW requires the gameserver and its attached database for any gameplay, including both DW:Tactical and event replays - an Internet connection is therefore needed. |

FAQ #2
How do you save a vehicle? |
||||||
*sam* Posted Mar 27, 2009, 12:28 pm |
When you design a new vehicle (starting with just the chassis) in DW:Tactical, it is automatically saved for future use. I will start work on a DW:T management page in the website, which will (among other things) allow you to rename and delete these vehicles or make them hidden from other users. |

At first I thought this was an awful idea overall (and the concept of it still is ), but after having actually tried it I realize this has potential to easily evolve into a design tool that you could use to design/prototype more scripted encounters for eventual use in the actual game. So it was probably worth the effort, especially since you did it in a way that people can have fun with and enjoy.

Is Darkwind: Tactical only for Subscribers or can I bring people from outside the game in to Darkwind: Tactical and let them get the feel for things?

Should be available to anybody, IIRC.
*sam* Posted Nov 16, 2009, 10:28 am |
It's for anyone, yep. | ||||||
*Lugal* Posted Mar 28, 2010, 6:40 pm |
Kinda.
The Tactical AI is a lot less aggressive than what you'll see in game. The typical action is finding the primary pathing through the map and driving away. You can sometimes force the AI to fight via placement, direction, etc. Improvements such as being able to set the AI behavior (Fight, Run-Away, etc) is on the list, but it's a fairly low priority so I think it's back a bit. |

Can i use this to set up a map with one or more of my vehicles (including it's skin) with no enemies for the purpose of finding nice spots to take screenshots ?
*Grograt* gary.r.horder@gmail.com Posted Aug 5, 2010, 1:28 pm |
Nope, your own skins are not available, you can save and use your own vehicles as in set up but that is all
Nark0tik Posted Aug 5, 2010, 4:08 pm |
Thanks Grog, you saying no spurred me on to be able to find a way round it !
It can be done ( kinda ) but it requires messing around with the default skin in the vehicles folder ie delete it and rename your skin as the default one. I made backups of course before i started messing. Not tested fully, need to drag another player into the event with me to test fully, but i have got the tac event to start with my skinned apache, buzzer and pho showing. Yay for being stubborn and enjoying messing around with someone elses hard work. Sorry Sam Edit- After trying this out with another player the skins only show on my computer. However, my screenshots DO show the skins. I hope this helps anyone who wants to set up skinned vehicles on their own computer for some nice photo's. Proof... My apache atop a devils finger !! |

Great tip! This will actually be handy for the larger models that you can't look at that well with showmodels.
Great thinking Narkotik! |
||||||
Nark0tik Posted Aug 6, 2010, 7:16 am |
Bear in mind that you will need a second player if you wish to actually drive the vehicles about. Otherwise as soon as you press space the event will end due to lack of an enemy.
It does give you plenty of time in the setup stage however to rotate the camera etc |

Triferus Posted Feb 7, 2011, 5:23 am |
Actually I've done this a lot and if you add an enemy and don't put a driver in it, you can drive around as long as you want (within 500m of the enemy car). Just remember to bring at least one weapon because the only way to end the event is to demoralize the enemy car (even though there's nobody in it). I suppose you might be able to have a ganger get into the enemy car and win that way. I haven't tried that. |
