In the current event Speedealer tracking Toecutter has a negative speed indicated.
Clearly a bug.

...unless he's driving in reverse?

A negative speed indicates reverse, yes. It sometimes happens during a spin when your velocity is more similar to the reverse direction of your car than to its forward direction.

Talking from experience as a truck driver...
A 'negative speed' could be interpreted as the speed between the two cars. Known as the 'Doppler Effect'.
One car accelerating faster toward the other, though they seem to be at the same speed in the same direction, will show a negative on the radar detector.

I know this, because I got out of a speeding ticket because of the same effect. He had no video of his speedometer to prove me wrong.
Police Radar emitters/detectors only work when sitting still or programmed to emit the radar when coincided with the 'set' speedometer speed of the chasing vehicle!
They can only detect incoming radio waves when you are moving toward or away from them. (Hence the Radar Detector you can buy from stores.)
Military radars, however, can see you coming and going, up or down, out and in! They can probably even tell you what toothpaste you use by the brightness of your teeth!

Hope this helps!

Sorry for having been as clear as mud... no, Toecutter was driving forward, hence I wouldn't have reported in. :stare:

Don't thanks for the tip on radar; but I prefer keeping with speed limits now.
My driving has changed a lot since I'm a father.
People are driving like nuts nowadays, and one must really really be careful on the road.
