Gatlings a Go Go versus Death Or Taxes
Lost Trail: Dead River

I'm putting this one up because of the combat at the end. Feel free to watch the whole thing, but I would recommend jumping to turn 160.

I spawned a large group of pirates, and tried several times to set up an ambush using terrain. When the second failed, the intended target - a Flashbang - fled. Getting frustrated at my own incompetence, I gave chance, figuring I'd at least kill him.

I beat him (as well as his friend who in turn chased me) but not before he gave me quite a nasty surprise!

EDIT: Fixed the event number - sorry. Also, if you skip ahead, you can follow the road to where it crosses the riverbed to find the action.

I was losing a pro-deathrace in my Marley.

I had the bright idea of moving a couple of resigned cars into the middle of the track to create a, how should I put it, "obstacle" for the other guys.

It might have worked, if I hadn't decided that 3rd wasn't good enough. I wanted first.

LOL.

Reminds me of a time I did a ladder DR against Diablo Vash.

Of course, he out-drove me, and passed me early on. We were laughing about how I should have put a character with a better driving skill in, when I said something to the effect of:

It's cool, this guy sucks at driving but he's 200 gunner with Sniper and Moving Targets.

I think I heard DV crap his pants all the way down in Australia.

Of course, my character wasn't anywhere near that skill level, but it gave DV a moment of pause.

Want to see the worlds worst driver behind the wheel of a Cutlass, check out S93501 for the first 100 turns. Just when you think he's done being stupid it gets worse. He did more damage to others and himself then I did until the end of the event.
He damaged his laser, which I was after so that bummed me out a bit. I managed to single him out in the end, but he refused to demo until his engine was destroyed even after taking multiple laser shots to his body.

This was my first Cutlass in a combat and the first one I've seen since last July which was in travels.

I hate you...  ;)

Congrats :)

Interesting it's the same Forever Skies map as others have souted and acquired FT's.

Another pattern is to simply go out with as many buuzzers as you can bring and force tons of rolls to get a better chance of a rare spawning. I really hope that is not the only way to get FTs to spawn is by flooding the scout with high CR vehicles.

this is a great example of why saying "come out with us new person.. we will look after you and you will get some good loot" to someone in the lobby is a really bad idea :cyclops:

If you like.....

watching a Famous apache sitting on its roof not once but twice during a scout

seeing Nines horrific creations reduce it to breach or single figure armour on all sides

watching the attempts of the heroic Goldfish to save said apache resulting in his car being shot to bits

watching him then bravely get out of the car and start taking potshots at a Black Stone with a rifle

then this is the one for you! it was a very close thing with most cars reaching breach before we won (I say 'we' but to be honest I had very little to do with it!).

all credit to the people on this scout (except me) it was a cracking effort. And at least the second bit was true with Goldfish looting the intact Stone and recieving a substantial bonus.

S114707 The Green Manalishi - Forever yellow skies

A van and Pho on their way from BL to GW (Dunno what I was thinking there). Didn't think Id get away. Ambushed and surrounded I head for the hills to try confuse them and hopefully lose them. Didn't get to far before they start shootin. 22 points of armor on the side of a van?! Seems about 10. Can see why they rate this armor soft. 4 Hits from a scorpion breached the armor. Couldn't see a thing on that map, (great challenge). Nowhere seamingly to go. Got away and got my load back to GW.... 2 gats (just to save a couple of bucks) a heavy flamethrower and 2 of my favorite gangers.... lol

(A bit of action at the start 5 - 32 when the van decides to shed some armor to make itself lighter, to the passengers dismay; and the van gets nearly verticle at around turn 50 - 60. Had to take it down a cliff to escape, I wanted to follow the spine of the ridge down into the canyon but it got a bit hairy and I didn't want to fall to the other side)

Maybe not much for you vets, but I was squigin my pants. Guns or low cr?... I woulda liked ta have the gats that were in the back of the van, shootin,.... at somethin,.. anythin!! See what happens when ya take away the g's?! Ya runnin "thin". :p

Amazing encounter:

Our first scout out of Elmsfield. Just me and my buddy Joe. He brought an Apache and I brought a Symphony and a Pickup. To avoid returns we only went 5 miles, despite it being riskier.
We get lucky, opposition is only four cars. We get a bit shot up, but all goes well. We head back to town with one loot car each.

But of course we get a return encounter. Bummer!

And not just any return, but 5 Phoenixes (=fast). Darn. And the gate (=escape zone, only available when you fight just outside a town) is really far away.

So we start driving like mad to get the hell out of Dodge (or Phoenix, as it was).

The first Phoenix catches up to us about halfway to the gate.
First Joe's loot car gets hit in the engine. It dies soon after.
Then my loot car.
Then my Pickup.

We're now rather close to the gate, Joe's ahead of me.
The lead Phoenix starts hitting my right side with a HMG. Hitting it hard. I lose all armor there.
To reduce exposure of my right side, I turn somewhat away from the beeline towards the gate. This lures the lead Phoenix to go after me, but going that fast over sanddunes without offroad tyres is HARD. The Phoenix loses control.

Meanwhile, Phoenix #2 has reached Joe's Apache, just as he reaches the gate. It turns towards me as he escapes.

I try to run past him, but he rams me head-on just 15 meters outside the gate. My gunner gets knocked out. I'd like to drive the last 15 meters to escape with the car, but now two enemies have their sight trained on it.

So my driver jumps out of the car and sprints for two turns, and with bullets literally hitting the ground around her feet she makes it to the gate.

Two of the four crewmembers that were left behind eventually limp back to town. They both need quite long hospital stays. The other two aren't heard from again.

This game is too cool.
If you want to watch the whole thing, it's event S116521.

Probably a prototype scout (of the new sort) if there was one. The SUVs tanking. The speedsters hit and running. The sedans in the middle. Peds ducking behind cars and shooting at weaksides. And the rentals getting blown up. Frankly, it was about as far from the usual firing line and string 'em out as you could get. While we did string them out, it was more along the lines of a running battle. This was probably the first time when I really felt like it was car combat and definitely the first time it felt like two smaller cars were acting as wingmen for each other.

2 shots to the roof could have ended it for the apache early, maybe about turn 70? but symph was nice enough to bank right and let me open him up.  BUD-BUD-BUD BUD-BUD-BUD  (hehe, not mad, just like he grin)

55- (up to battle speed! lol, kinda slow down there actually) terrain is important, I'm not quite quick enough in the apache... change that soon, but little hills are really fun if you keep your speed up.

My Buzzer "The Renowned Be All" was shot to hell during a scout. (Many, many rocket toting vehicles). The engine was destroyed, as were all weapons, and I had breaches on three sides. I only saw a bit of blue, though.

Fortunately for me the vehicle wasn't completely destroyed and I was able to keep it to try to take it home. Watch how to get a 0% engine through a gates encounter.

Broken? Stupid? Buggy? The NPC drivers in Gateway have heard it all, admit you were one of the haters.

Or maybe there was a method to their madness? Countless sacrifices for the sake of science?

In event 61085, a GW Bone race, Sherry Kennison of The Locos Drives. Through. Concrete. Damage to tires (minor) and "minor damage to left armor". First lap, turns 25-27.

I considered withholding the secrets of this portal to my advantage in the next race against you doubters. But in the interest of fairness, I disclose it to you. I guess we'll make quite a crowd trying to hit that tooth at 96mph to cross to the other side.

Sadly, Sherry turtled herself attempting the same maneuver on Lap 2, the tooth was partially obstructed by a resigned car.

Yes, but never in one of my scouts. Funny thing is you had 2 cars spawn in that scout that I have yet to see in the wild, yes the pike and I've owned around 40 of them.

Congrats on at getting to see it, I've been playing straight for over a year and a half and have yet to see an uber rare. You won the lottery, but lost the ticket. :)

Better to see the 57 slip away than an Ambulance or Firetruck.

Had a lorry and escort run into trouble.

First off I started on a downhill behind them. I knew that I'd never be able to turn around and run away uphill, so I headed into the mess of them hoping to sneak past and blow by them while they struggled to turn and catch up.

Not quite. I vaulted over 2 of them.

Later, after about turn 43, I had to make a high speed turn onto the bridge. In my lorry. At 103mph. On reinforced tires.

The turn ended up being... beautiful. Needs to be seen to be appreciated.

This was a League Deathrace. It started with 8 NPCs and 3 live players (Scarzam, Zephyr, and me), using Deathmarleys.

The first lap was downright brutal, especially through Turn #3 (the hairpin). Several NPCs and Zephyr were taken out there, and my engine got dinged. One of the NPCs was out in front, I was in second place, and Scarzam was coming up fast on the inside. It was obvious that he was going to pass me, so I told him to go ahead and pass, since it was obvious that his engine was still untouched and mine wasn't (and I didn't want him to take me out! =^_^= ). Despite that, I continued to race as hard as I could, and we remained very close throughout the rest of the race.

Between the two of us, we managed to take out the NPC that was ahead of us by Turn #3 again, but the NPC stalled right in Scarzam's way, blocking him and slowing him down. I ended up bouncing off another NPC, resulting in a tighter turning line and passing Scarzam. As we came down to the wire, he caught up again... and it resulted in a photo finish, with both of us crossing the line in the same turn.

EVENT ID: S170025 - Scout-o-Matic Vs. The Texan Ultimatum

This killfest took place in the quiet hills south of Somerset. Being in the tamer part of Evan, none of us expected such an enormous fight, but one of our naughty allies had been up to no good and was sporting a bounty on his head. The Texan Ultimatum made a well orchestrated grab at that bounty - and failed.

We were jumped by their ambush and outnumbered more than 2 to 1. We broke through their interceptors and systematically dismantled their vehicles. You will notice Load Runners fell to enemy fire. Unfortunately there was a lack of communication at the very start and we didn't acknowledge that Load Runners had to leave for a moment: his pickup wandered without control for a few rounds before I took command but it was too late.

We fought the bounty hunters almost literally to our last bullet but won the day!

The bloody AI set a trap!

I'm in a 5L box van carrying a 3.2Lv8 and a load of fuel at the gates of FL. A HCR pike spawns along with 3 friends. I run, and lose 1, but decide to set a trap inside FL to get the HCR.

The pike falls for it, negotiates the gates and I dispatch him quickly. Now I've got a scorp and mongoose to deal with. The mongoose is strangely hanging out at about 400m... stupid AI I think. The scorp appears stuck and isn't coming into my trap. It should be easy to dispatch the scorp quickly and then mop up the mongoose, so I ease out and turn to the scorp. That's when I notice incoming fire on my flank.

At this point we have a gambit. Either I finish off the scorp and take a breach, or I turn to the incoming mongoose and the scorp will turn toward me. The AI drew me out of my trap with a bait car and then flanked me!

I choose the breach, finish off the scorp and then get in a tight dogfight with the mongoose with no time to reload. When it's all said and done, this milk run turned into 3 breached sides and internals for me, and forced me to ram just to get out of the situation. I narrowly won and was able to salvage the HCR, but not the pike.

Good job AI! You actually outsmarted me!

travel enc in the maze.... playing on a 10inch screen i drove into a dead end... decided i could climb the wall... with the aid of a few mml's i did... RIGHT INTO A PIT WITH NO EXIT!

milled around a few hundred turns, tried to go back and pedshoot the enemy but even the ped couldnt climb out.

check it out, pretty pitiful, the far end of the pit was 290ish meters from the enemy.

ends with my burning my car and escaping on foot.

Not the most dramatic in therms of the vehicles involved (my Apache and Landy against 5 of the usual SS cars), but it's a good demonstration on the hiding-behind-buildings technique I use a lot when soloing SS. Thought it might be interesting for newer players who don't find the form-a-line tactic works for them, or who have trouble with these sort of odds. It's also good if you have low-skill gunners, because you're nearly always firing at point blank.

All 5 enemy cars were drivable at the end of the scout, although there wasn't a whole lot left of the scorp.

Not bad for your first solo scout.

Suggestion one, let them come to you so they spread out a bit.

Try and not let them flank you like that, you're lucky there was only one rocket boat there. Keeping your cars all bunched up like that will tend to keep the enemy bunched up as well and any splash damage with hit all your cars.

Sorry for the loss

Tip: Have an emergency weapon the opposite facing of your primary weapons if able. Even a 20bulk machine gun can save your arse if your opposite facing main weapons side gets breached. It also helps allow you to not give ground to keep the main weapons facing toward the main threat if another car passes by or flanks you. Even a few side weapons can save your bacon.

Tip #2, mix it up a bit, don't use the same config for all your scout cars. Have a backup plan config car go with you, with a slightly different loadout to deal with those odd ball situations.

Like you mentioned in that scout, that MM was very accurate for a box van moving at 50mph+ and firing blind over mountains. The guy firing the MM is as good as my best specialized ballistics characters and that NPC was probably 40 skilled at best at the current gangs fame level.

Awesome explosion as a Motorhome goes up in smoke. Kills all 4 anarchists and sends the cars near it flying, killing at least one in another car near by. A bit later, I get a bonus explosion as a car crests a hill, eats 3 CCs and a HGG and blows up mid air killing both Anarchists in it. Neat little solo scout. Kudo's on the explosion animation etc. First time I had seen such a good example.

The car explosions continue to be amusing. I'm in mop-up operations on Dead Mans Road. As I'm backing my buzzer next to a burning PU, I say to myself "self, you really are kinda close to that burning PU, wonder if it will explode"? Guess what? It did. Watch my Buzzer get blown over around the end of the fight. Lucky none of my guys got killed or maimed, I've seen that happen. Fortunately the explosion was not that big, being a wiped out PU and all.

A lucky escape from a return gone bad....

Some vehicles stood and fought to allow as many other to escape as we could. Had a windsor II getting low on armor by the end of the fight and was being chased down by an almost untouched biter. Figured I'd go head to head with him (my best armor side at that point) to try and do what I could. Had resigned myself to eventually having to surrender the vehicle. Turns out the AI's masterful use of speed let me go through the side, get lucky and knock the driver out on my final shot of MMG & MG ammo, then finally after a long run escape.

S238908 Gates of Elmsfield.

My Lorry just barely escaped with its life from an encounter and I figure, Gates, no prob, i'll run for it. Not so fast. 3 Muscle cars chase me and I've got no rear armor after their first volley. Conclusion: I'll never make it to the gates.

So I turn and give em my only good side. Double ram 2 of em and loot the last pho with my only working MG spinning in a cloud of heavy smoke. I think I had to get my crew out to push my Lorry all the way to the gates after the fight.

Ok, well many great scouts here, but this is not more than a simple encounter gone very wrong.

My very nice shiny new 3L rotary A armoured voyager doing not much more than trying to move a HMG and a scout up to GW.

Small encounter with the Dingos, that aussie gang! Just cause we always beat em at the rugby!

Very fast speeds involved, but I'm afraid, not the shortest REC.

S239865

Things can go wrong fast at 270 KPH.. and 3.2L NPC voyagers seem a tad too quick to be honest.

It ends well, just! My 68 STR driver gets tagged on the shoulder and falls into a coma but the 2 & 1/2 month old 24 STR scout got her thighs shot up and stuck it out to save the day... and to a degree, my much treasured rotary.

Talk about how to not use the terrain to your advantage! This is not at all how my travels usually go, even the deep south ones.

Redemption vs Butane at SS gates.

While out on scout the crew of the Road Templars got word that Butane was moving in on their Church in SS. Returning to town to defend the church some of the squad paniced and chose to escape to the town tavern instead of fighting for such a cause.

Sir Harold Carr and Sir Staleyl Hall, each commanding a Buzzer Crew, made for town meaning to hold them from entering and desecrating the Church. the fight started well but as The horde from Butane caming crashing down on us things began to go badly. Harold and Stanley, Veterans of many such battles refused to give in. Radioed the crew of Hand Gunners from the orry to join in on the fight. Injuries and Losses were many but still the refused to surrender.

Stanley, weaponless and with no armor on 2 sides, finally had to excape to the safety of town after losing his driver and co gunner.

Harold was also in the same circumstance but the enemy lay between him and saftey. He chose to do the only thing he could. He commanded his buzzer to keep their armored side towards their enemy and backed away from the fight. Once at a safe distance he chose to grab his trusty Rifle and prove once again why he is the deadliest weapons man in all of Evan.

He chose to stand slightly to the side of his chewed up Buzzer and sight in the last remaining vehicle. A butane Gladiator was chasing the Hand gunners from the lorry. From over 200 meters away he opened fire. Breaching and finally causing injuries to the crew of the Glad. The last remaining Hand Gunner then bravely kept firing on the exposed side until they Finally chose to Surrender.

The Brave crews that gave their lives will be honored. As will our new Friends from the gang Coolerheads, who stuck with us for the entire fight.

Arena combat: Herseman
112548

Pretty much a standard combat. A couple of cool jumps and stuff but the kicker is what happens at the end.

I attempt a jump to get some points. I go over the ramp I get my points but dont make it to the other side. The car lands heavily on it's unarmored nose. FIRE!. Guy jumps out and starts running. I get 1 or 2 turns away and BOOM! explosion. My guy is laid out with a broken shoulder blade. 2 or 3 turns later the even ends.

Best second place ever.

I don't normally single-car solo scout, but I might if things keep going this well with my copy of Omnia vincit armor's "Demens" ATG equipped Windy II. It's a fun car to drive and fight with. If you haven't tried out this design I recommend it.

Slammers vs. Butane

So many reasons in this long, long battle.
18 enemies, 10 player cars. Watch Giggly Schoolgirl Assassins and Warchild, they are textbook examples of how to use muscle cars to drag off and distract enemies. Each peeled off 3 Butane, leaving a MUCH smaller force for the rest of the scout to deal with.
Then there's the battle in the basin, which is an impressive display of skill and courage.
This battle is also useful to observe for the animal attack, and the tactics that defeat animals quickly - watch each other's backs, stay moving, and kill them all!

Wow, that's crazy.

3 of 6 that spawn are ultra rare, 2 are rare and one common.

I'm jealous, you spawned 4 chassis in just one scout that I have yet to see in any scout and you've only been playing 8 months. I've yet to hear that kind of loot spawn in any single Firelight scout and those maps are much harder. Still can't believe that kind of insane loot spawns on a gates map.

PS: Did you buy or loot that ambulance? You've collected some nice equipment in your time playing so far.

I'm embarrased I didn't get more of the loot.  It was an opportunity that may never happen again.  Things were actually looking great till the explosion.  Still, it could have been worse I suppose.

I bought the Amb.  I wish I had looted it, I didn't know they spawned.

That's the third FT I've seen.  Two on solos that I have captured and 1 in a BL hunt that I tagged along early in my career.  First time I've seen the Flail myself.  I've seen several Gunboats, and of course the TTs are somewhat common.  First "Buzz This" I've seen though I have captured maybe a dozen of the other Buzzers.

I broke one of my cardinal rules and was trying to capture everything.  That cost me a Buzzer, a pretty good ganger and lots of other damage.

I think you would have been OK if you'd just hit the gunboat from further away. Looks from the replay like you didn't notice it sneaking up on you until a turn or two before it opened fire - is that right?

That's the greedy part.  I knew where it was the whole game.  I did not take into consideration the mass/momentum and restricted quarters of that spot.  I was trying to demo everything just enough so I could capture it all.  That plan was also hurt by letting them all get so far from each other.  So then I was waffling between just isolating one and trying to get it and still trying to get them all.  This is not the gameplan I usually use.  There are several things I could have done there, I chose none of them, lol.

Hells Horses vs Butane aka Butane Whack-a-Mole

Most people prefer the high ground to set up on in SS. I prefer to park behind it and blast them as they clear. That way it saves taking the extra damage while waiting for them to get into effective range. It also sometimes prevents the demo'd cars from shooting back as they're knocked back down the other side of the hill.

Here's a good example of that. 6 on 10 solo vs Butane. End result, 8 bountied dead Butane gangers and I came back with 8 of the 10 cars as loot.

Here's what GREAT teamwork can do for you when you're facing Butane and you know it's gonna be a tough fight.

Had to run to get set up in a place where we wouldn't get bum rushed, everyone did a great job of staying out of each others way.
Formed a skirmish line and got set for the rush.
When that didn't happen the way we thought, we adapted by reversing to a new position as a group, firing as we went.

Had everyone gone into this with a "solo" mentality it would have been ugly.
As it was, we turned getting hurt into putting the hurt on Butane, in a big way, with minimal damage to vehicles, and NO blue text on any player.

The end got a bit sloppy, but only because WE had to go after Butane, because their hearts just weren't in it anymore.

A hard fought defense.

Nice little trader hunt in Tex. Or so it was supposed to be. My 73 trucker somehow drops the lorry on its side on turn 2. I'll reserve what I think of that little feat for the tirade I already recited to myself. Suffice it to say I was less than pleased. But, in this game you cannot panic, even if a 73 trucker (also 70ish driver) somehow manages to do what should not be possible given the speed. And if you want to hold onto expensive equipment you have to be willing to fight for it. So the Hitmen made a stand. Got lucky the lorry was pointing at the enemy, suddenly that silly ability to shoot when upside down/sideways was my friend. Paint once again proved more valuable than a whole buzzer. The chaser was roped into providing some flanking fire, his red circle evidence of what he thought of that. The Ambulance anchored the line while the two buzzers got turned around. Our position was well chosen, giving us cover from incoming fire until they got right up to us, in this case a good thing. So some good set up decisions, some poor driving and a little luck got me out of it. Most unlucky thing? I managed to breach my own lorry by hitting it with CC fire and destroy a Mounted Mortar. Ouch and Ouch. Still considering what could have happened, I'd say it was some minor epicness on the part of the Hitmen's A-Team. Gonna miss that Mortar though...

P.S. My reward for this? Two Hand Flamers... #$%^!!!!!

Oh, and some food. $%^&!!!!

Yeah fellas, keep flogging the lorry driver, I'll tell you when to stop....

I did it with an unarmed 4L voyager, a single ganger with no real combat skills, and a rifle.

And, I have Glow Plug's incessant bounties on me to thank for the opportunity. Now that's just poetic justice.

Sir Latte said "Join the Crusade!!!"

And we did.

Sir Latte said "I'm gonna bring my little red truck!"

And he did.

Latte's "little red truck" is a FT with 2 TG's in the ass of it.
And the gunners have rapid shot.

Flying sonics, NPC peds getting run over by their teammates, amputated limbs EVERYWHERE...
This one has it all.

And it is HILARIOUS.
If they named a street after this scout, it would be called "One Way"....heh...

S257939

EDIT-

After analysis of the scout, Latte was responsible for 2 heads, 4 arms, and 5 legs getting removed from their owners.

Saxxon and I handily trounced him the ear department though, I got 2, Saxxon got 1.
Saxxon also did get a head.

Latte got his peds out at the end, which is ALWAYS fun to watch.
Even when they shoot me in the ass a few times...heh....

This should warm the hearts of the laser haters.

Decided to make the TT blow up as I wanted the Trader Lorry (more on that later). Mission accomplished, unfortunately a chomper was lown toward my dual laser osprey and hit it at 150 MPH. bye bye one laser, other at 80%. Awesome. then, to top it off, the Lorry has a zerker in it, who once again proves the problem with the zerker/demo rules as he convinces his mates to fight to the bitter end. Somehow 3 guys allow a single zerker to make them all fight on well past where they should. This part of the demo rules needs to change.

Right, so, I'm rather proud of this one. (Not so proud of the preceding scout; it was not wise to pull a 180 in front of a spawn that was facing me on a flat road, even at over 200 meters.)

Anyway, one of my Landrunners was left with no guns, no armor, and no engine, so it sure wasn't going to get very far -- I was just looking for a halfway decent spot for the crew to ditch. The shotgunner from the other Landy joined them when his HMG ran dry.

Lorry Run GW-BL ID267779

This travel brought up a number of issues and was full of action. It was a 2 player travel with myself and Skidmark - Skid had a Lorry and 2 Apache Escorts (Re:2xHMG) and i was running a 4L Boxvan with a 3.2L Pho with rear MG and HMG.

Issues: Enemy not disappearing at 700m
FOJ doing nothing when tyres already gone
No manuevability penalty for cars driving on rims
Boxvan made it to BL with no driver
Exited ped magically reappearing in GW

First one is the BPU around turn 90, then the buzzer a few turns later. I thought I'd got lucky and flipped it, but no...

Also demonstrates the hitbox problem on the motorhome a bit later on, but that's less interesting for the casual viewer.

Hey all, been seeing some huge explosions and some great tactics thanks to this thread, nice!

I've been enjoying the single Landrunner solo tip recently. This one was tricky. Nice bit of training though.

Fair few turns against the Arachnids but well fun and perhaps some nice use of the meagre terrain on the deadmans road map. Ran out of patience at the end so it got a little messy too.

That was grim. Even SS can be dangerous. Here's two cents in the hope new guys don't repeat mistakes. Jumping the Osp when you are not really that threatened is fun, but turtling it there is hardly unlucky, in fact it's predictable, if you drive with abandon that will eventually happen. Also, Lasers are very fragile and even had you not turtled you may have easily damaged them if the nose hit first. Getting guys out in range of CGLs is suicidal, probably a better idea to just to hide in the car and hope the armor holds out, and let the buzzer hold em off. As it was you got the car turned over, just, so that was ok except it seems you were too hurt to shoot. It may seem like a good idea to split the CCs between two targets, but it's actually not. Neither of the CCs has enough power by itselt to take down a car, and you needed to take one down fast. I'd have put both on the Phoe, or perhaps the whichever was first to crest, and put it down fast, then switch to the next. the Phoes armor is easilt punctured by two CCs and maybe 2-3 rounds would have taken it out. Driving backwards did not help much as it decreased accuracy. It also gave you some LOS problems as the road bows up there. The second PU did you a favor by going wide and actually gave you some time to take care of the first two.

Sorry to see the loss, that was some good equipment and the los of gangers always sucks.

A good gritty fight, no running off to a hill and waiting for the NPCs to run into your bullets using every bit of terrain to limit the AI. No AI can fight on the terrain in this game when using these tactics, and Im amazed at the tactics the AI use. The AI did a good job here to keep some guns on the targets and ask questions. Note the damage mgs are doing here. Sure you could have used the ol' stand in a corner and pummel em with fireballs D&D tactics, but that gets old real quick.

Who ever says the AI is no good doesn't play this game hard enough. Sam you are indeed a genius. Halo/Crysis/Turok, eat ya heart out (games noted for their AI).

Good show gents, you can't win all the time, at least not when you're having this much fun. Sorry for your loses.

As near a perfect scout as I have ever had. I only get shot at 3 or 4 times over the entire thing, due to mortars demoing them before they reach me and a well placed ped with a paint rifle.

The gangers in the Apache and Windsor are all sub 50, thee are 2 rapid reloaders on mortars and the two peds are decent 50 skill gangers.

I was told at one point that mortar's don't hold their weight unless someone like Mike is running them in a well organized gun line - I call bull.

I was told that a rocket armed Marley cannot pull it's weight - I call bull.

One last scout before bed turns into good expensive fun.

Multiple judgement errors made:

-Didn't take scout because they're off elsewhere.

-Didn't take escort buzzers becaause I wanted "one quick one" before bed.

-Positioned worst gunners (sub-100 skill) at the rear instead of in the middle of the formation.

-Prioritised wrong targets. Ram vehicles can be dangerous, but HMGs/RLs are far more reliable than rams in the hands of the AI, should have used two firetrucks to defend rear and one to destroy the rammers ahead.

Luckily, the only parts of the firetruck I actually care about survived. :cyclops:

We intended this as your average, just make a buck sort of scout. Little did we know it would become an epic tale in two acts. We'll call it "Not Till the Fat Lady Sings."

Act 1. Six assorted vehicles happen upon twelve enemies from Wave of Mutilation. After extended discussion on the virtues of the "fight or flight" response, the battle was taken up... and won. S309679

Act 2. Now somewhat shot to hell and low on ammunition, the squad of six original vehicles plus six loot vehicles encounter thirteen more WoM. Stuck in a deep ravine and entirely too far from the gates to make a run for it, we lined up, put the cars in park, and started shooting. S309701

We all loaded up and went 25 miles to GW on an assasination mission against Civ traders (Looking for the new 2 stage spawn which we got). We got Once Upon a Town which helped a lot, but the initial charge and total carnage/chaos of the scout is quite amusing. We somehow won this scout. Oh yeah, we had to keep the throttle at max and could only use the hand brake to slow down. Outstandig event, thanks Tango and all the guys who joined in on this. Brilliantly fun and funny.

Flechette lights him on fire (what?) he explodes in 3-4 seconds sending my Osprey flying, crushing the engine and of course destroying the FE. Argh.

One of my lorry crews, consisting entirely of fresh hires and with no escorts, is on their way back to Elmsfield with a full load of fuel when they get attacked at the worst of all places: Road to Gateway. They have no chance to outrun their pursuers in these sandy hills, so what should they do?

Well, at least the lorry is a lot lighter, now.

(For those who may wonder, the lorry came out of the encounter with exactly 10% of the armor that it began with.)

A Maure Dore ambush is one of the nastiest you can get, because there is absolutely no driveable terrain except for the road.

See how the FL Express gladiator bus escapes this nasty ambush and maybe learn a thing or two.

The great escape!

Now, being inexperienced in the ways of the Dustup, but reading its review about being great off road, I thought I would buy one and take my gang leader from SS to GW.

Man that was scary, I was sure I'd be walking home.

"This one goes under the 'Holy crap, how am I supposed to survive this?' list."

I was escorting a lorry from BL to GW, and halfway there my squad got ambushed. It was a terrible one.
I thought the enemy would be behind, so I put the lorry waaaay out front, leaving the two buzzers in the middle of the circle. But instead, three vehicles were about 50 meters away from the lorry's front, with the firepower to kill it easily. There were also three vehicles close behind, and they would have torn the escort apart if I tried to make them help the lorry.
It was a really tough fight.

They appear to be nuts because they are cheating in the spec department. They are taking specs in skills that do not have those specs.

I'd suggest reporting this in the bugs forum.

Very good race though alone against NPC.

Lots of close calls on the figure 8, and a final lap dodging lapped traffic.

Got 2nd place laptime, within a second of my 1st place laptime due to over sliding on last corner and hitting the pole. Impact didn't let me cross finish line on that turn and it cost me a new record time.

I didn't get the green message again ( I think this is related to me pressing ready before the last turn is over). noticed the three in front (4, but one was off the cliff) a bit late but had enough time to get the lorrys organized for the push through. Eventually this game catches up with you. This was a rather routine camp defense down in FL. I didn't get the double spawn warning (Again). And had two rocket cars show up at about 20M. Then I tried to be too cute. I should have bulled my way forward and then dealt with them, instead I tried to turn a car. End result not pretty. 5 very good gangers dead. 300 scout, a laser 3 expert, a 200+ crosstrianed ganger and a guy over 200 uncapped. not to mention the Buzzer and a double laser Turin with a 5LV12.

As a side note, I get the second spawn warnign maybe 50% of the time. I usually find out when the bad guys start shooting me.

To be fair to the enemy spawn it was more like 60-70m and there was a ridge in between, took around 10 turns if not more went by before they got the into firing range. As for the message not showing I cannot say, I get it most of the time, might it be obscured by the 1/5 Demoralized box?

Either way, Tough luck, those were some rocket happy enemies there...

I am well aware that they spawned much earlier than I saw them.  I missed it.  I get the message maybe 50% of time.  It is either obscured by the demo message, the fleeing messsage, missed because I tend to tab in before the last round is over or just plain doesn't show up.  20 M is where I noticed them, I'm sure they appeared before that.  Luck had little to do with it as I could have easily just moved forward and past them, but tried to get too cute by turning a vehicle.  But that's the thing about this game, just one tactical error and it's all over for a years worth of effort.

Yeah, so so I.  But it had been a lot of turns, the gange was not a high fame gang, and the camp defenses tend to be straight forward events.  So all that combined to add to my complacency.  I paid for it.

I had to take out Mitchell Munoz to complete the second leg of the "Racing for the Mob" narrative mission. From the starting turn some of the NPCs start behaving erratically (driving in the wrong direction, smashing into each other) and Munoz decides he wants to turn his car around and crash into me!

We both catch on fire, his engine is instantly destroyed and he becomes a sitting duck, with a breached front facing the finish line he barely crossed. I take a "swing" at him and the NPCs do the rest when they barrel into the wrecks (Munoz's included) as they cross into the 2nd lap.

Now that's Scavvy.

Short trader hunt, my Phoe takes off after the carrier van. On the last turn it jumps over a ridge, then fires two MG rounds into the side of the van in mid air. Traders are so startled they quit immediately.

I'm new to buzzer combat, so this kind of fight was something of a revelation to me... My guys aren't uber-skilled, so I try to ambush using terrain as cover or else I find I get sniped to death as my range and accuracy is relatively low.

In this fight the first ambush goes better than usual, partly due to one enemy being a delicate flash - which gets to learn how to fly. Two down, 4 to go. I move to the next ambush point but before I get to engage, all 4 demo due to the sheer terror inflicted by the first clash :).

Shame I was only brave enough to loot one car as although I did get a return I was able to truce.

Intense escape from Ultraviolence, what started to be a simple run away turns out to a complete domination against the slavers. My Windsor II barely makes it out alive after surrendering midway, almost all the crew unconscious, makes it back with one barely conscious new gunner recruit.

Some good lessons here.

Don't fire high recoil weapons when moving at high rates of speed, especially in a turn.

Buzzer does a nice flop, but can be righted by targeting the ground.

Buzzer dance is funny.

If your plan is not working, or goes pear shaped, make another plan.

Ospreys are not line fighters.

Nice save. Hair raising few moments. Turn 27, stress would have been getting up there a bit (just that point of replay glitch unfortunately). I was rooting for the other guy  :p

Good plan, or at least go with the movement when you hear that 3rd or 4th CC round go off. Fortunately, anything that was targetted, is not there anymore but in low orbit.

Pretty sure the Turin 7L v12 is still a faster car than the 5L v12 Stormer, all other factors aside, though not as much as some might think.

That's just showcasing what affect other factors like armor weight, driver skill, player skill, suspension settings, tyre choice have on the cars.

Some good racing there for sure!

Pretty much the same settings, pretty much the same drivers skill here (FF maybe a tad better, attributes I'm not sure of). Turin was heavier fer sure.

Be cool if the interior was visible, bar the fact it would be like KIT

Pretty sure the final drive is heaps different in a stormer to a turin which is where much of the differnece is, at the end of the main straight, thats where the turin gets its legs, pulling 20MPH on the stormer

The day was rife with tension from the outset... The two sworn enemies would prepare today for their SCL division 3 match. Clint knew what had to be done, but with small resources lady luck would have to be more than with him, would have to be blowing the enemy kisses as a distraction... and that she did.. briefly... The tides turned and more was lost than a little pride.

Another Epic lorry explosion.

S451252

Traders in TX to get a quick fame boost to my camp before the reset, so I just took one FE and a Turin out.

Pretty routine, but the lorry decided to charge. I hit him a few times on the nose, but he kept coming, then he lit on fire. At that point I started to think, uh oh, fire ship. So I stomped on the gas and got well away. He burned for a long time, but near the end he explodes and 3-4 of his buddies make a very nice star burst pattern. Didn't last long enough to see them land, but they were airborne for 3-4 turns before it was over and still had a couple until landfall.

Good lesson for those who stay too close to burning fuel lorrys.

Some of the best events I've had have been contracts taken by NPCs and PCs over the last two years. This was a travel through shanty and the Privateers decided to get some pay back. They brought a gunboat with unfortunately they cannot drive at all.

However, that is not the good part. Most of my losses are due to second spawns and not getting the warning box. Not sure why that happens but for whatever reason I miss it a lot. I think its because I tab in so much before the prior turn is over. Anyway, I missed the extra Pulveriser. Funny thing is that I had just panned out enough to see the Phoenix was red and I coul dnot figure out why. So I was fiddling with moving it when "whammo" it gets hit by the Pulverisor. Engine gone, dude hurt and a fire. Guys bailed out and somehow survived but it was an epic ram for the AI.

Why I hate Bombed Luna Road.

This was the travel from hell. Despite a good scout (Neg3) got ambushed once in the Maze - which was bad because I had to literally crash through the ambush.

Then I got ambushed again on the hated Bombed Luna Road. I really dislike this map - it has no terrain features, the road eats tyres, and the terrain eats armor. It's basically just a huge PITA.

Good thing my scout had a ridiculous courage stat :)

A return encounter at GW gates. My CC LandRunner is ambushed by two Phoenixes. The body of the scout is fairly straightforward, but two turn before the end of the event, I got the pop-up telling me "the remaining vehicles were trying to escape". At that time, both Phoenixes were still confident, which I found unacceptable: I wanted loot!

I didn't get my loot, but the final two turns were quite funny. One of the Phoenixes, on fire, continued rushing towards me at full speed. I was aware his front armor was quite low, so I positioned myself for a reverse-ram (blocking his way). When he hit me, he destroyed his engine and took quite a bit of blue text, and spun me so hard I regained LOS on the other Phoenix which I blasted to pieces too.

Every race is extremely difficult to try and win when Lord Foul is entered into it. The Dunes SS track Open class 5L cap. Six seasons of chasing Lord Foul and seeing nothing but his rear bumper could be discouraging to most, but not me. Racing the best brings out your best.

It was a typical race where Lord Foul jumps out into the lead and stays there for 2 of the first 3 laps. An unlucky turn for him at the end of lap 2 allows me and snipe to catch up to him. We exchange paint, I barely slip by and fight off his charge. One wide turn and a straight away to go to do the unthinkable.... could I actually win this?!? Then snipe tries to steal my thunder and undercuts me in that last turn, paint exchanged and he passes me. We approach the two "death upon impact" pylons and lapped traffic. Snipe takes a direct line between the pylons with me 2 car lengths behind. Then an AI car swerves in front of Snipe.... contact is immanent. Could this be karma that gives Lord Foul back the lead with only a couple hundred meters to go?!?!  Contact happens, Lord Foul takes a short cut and goes airborne to try and regain the lead, and me... staring at certain death... **Spoiler Alert** ... *Spoiler Alert*, I turn and slap the announcer. Its just one of those races you really got to watch to appreciate!  232710

A new record?

ID: S588322

I think I might have set a new record last night. Typically, the last quick run of the night turned into a not-so-quick run. My travels from SS to Elms (that highly-dangerous route) saw me running from the Northern Mutant Alliance for a whopping 992 turns!

It turns out that Raccoons (in this case, a modified looted Bandit) are cr@p! Mine topped out at about 70 mph, which makes running away from anything other than milk-floats rather problematic. As an indication, it took about 600 turns before I lost the Chomper (something normally resembling a tortoise), and the only way I managed to get away from the Duellist (Moose) was to lure him into/near one of the pools (Oasis map).

Throughout the entire encounter, I think I only took a single hit from weapons’ fire (Moose’s MMG), but lost a fair chunk bouncing over the terrain, trying everything to shake the mutie b’stard.

I did wonder what would happen if I hit the 1000 turn mark. Would the world end (again) ?

Oh, if anyone's interest in a nice little family run-about (ideal for popping to the shops), PM me with an offer for this lovely little Raccoon. You won't be disappointed (dead, possibly, but not disappointed!)

Who needs guns or armor or even a good engine in a loot car to demo two enemy cars in a return?

Especially check out turn 35 - 50 for the one where my driving skill contributed to putting an enemy car in the oil. The other car went in starting at turn 70, but that was just the other guys stupidity.

X had to manually escape by distance outrunning a pickup. After he did, the pickup auto escaped and I ended up looting some better undamaged tires and ammo than what I already had in the trunk.

Thank you, X, for a very memorable scout. Just in case you were wondering, once is enough, we do not need to repeat this.

Explosive take-off

ID: S620033

First scout out from Sarsfield and got Salt Flats Canyon – A TT, 4 Razorbacks, a Ferret and a Sir Rocket, interesting start thinks I.

And so a quick turn around and start running to spread them out. Ferret caught up first and was easy prey. Problem was TT was next and was keeping ahead of the rest. So I turn off the main road in to a narrow side canyon hoping it wouldn’t make it.

And it did, ok says I, kill it and hope to keep a couple Razorbacks.

And this is what happened next.

I had an 891 turn travel yesterday.  Highway to Hell, my cargo loaded 3.2lv8 BPU, vs Mantis, Longshot, and an Ant.  Outlasted the 60 MML rounds from the Mantis and some shots from the Longshot, before finally losing the Ant...then longshot... the mantis would not run away, had to get out and SMG it.  At times the Mantis was weaving around the BPU at 100+ while I was rolling at 80-90.

My most hard fight ever - and i hope i will stay like this in the next year -.

S673503

Begun with 4 players and at the start of the event 2 players rapidly get demoralised.

After that, a messy fight with all our cars getting crapped, peds all around getting overruned, shooted down by our own peds and by ai cars.

3 enemiy pho's were shooted down by peds.

Epic ending with 2 weapon-less player cars (both of them recovered by peds running around) against an ai car... just to get down to the AI (with some ammo) and 1 player.

And then our saving hero appeared in the shape of a rat, the ai thought the rat was a bigger thread than the "weaponless - armorless" car chasing his armorless right side, lucky ram got his engine dead.

3 hours of thrilling death scary event.

Moving a BPU to SS. I thought I'd bring another car as a decoy to give the 3.2L V8 powered BPU time to escape. It didn't work out that way.

Only 1 car chased the decoy, the others opting for the easy prey. This BPU had some bite. Was able to shoot up 2 of them and then ran out of ammo. I thought, "if I lose this truck now, it's my fault because I forgot reloads".

Right then, rats showed up and started chewing on Satan's peds and their cars, even the unoccupied one, lol.

On Shanty gates- always position yourself on the top of the hills to the left of where you started. They often spawn like that, but you simply run down the hill and head away south west.
Nice escape tho Bill  :D
I'm a huge fan of the humble lil Flash. Once you learn how to drive them, they are easily the best pound for pound car in the game. I have won pro races with Flashes against Turins and Roadrunners, and use only Flash or Eaton to move gangers around

I can't agree more. Flash and Eaton are the only ones I run for scout training. The Flash is a lot of fun to drive but the Eaton can be very squirrelly if you try to put an engine bigger than 4L. Even then, you have to make fine adjustments continually so you don't spin out.

I'm very green when it comes to scouts, and I'd appreciate feedback on my performance in this event.  I was using a low-skill driver, and completely failed to keep proper control of the Windsor II on sand.  Things got messy pretty quickly, and a much more experienced player close to me lost a couple of gangers.  This was one of those OMFG-we'reallgoingtoDIE! moments.

I took a hammering, but managed to get through without any armour breaches... just (down to 2 points on the front, 3 or 4 on each side).

Would be interested to know what I could/should have done differently, both to improve my chances of survival and to contribute to the safety of the group.

I almost bagged my first Buzzer with an "unarmed" scout. The Buzzer was flipped on the side and I cut out the pack by running the necessary 500 meters and coming back. I got out, positioned myself on a cliff above and proceeded to fall down into the valley where hilarity ensued.

I'm interested to hear what you would have done differently? (besides not falling down the cliff :) )

S738140  -  I finally got out of my car to start shooting at turn 286

BTW, can a rifle fired at close range really flip a Buzzer laying on its side back upright?

I would say no, however never really done trials.
I would more think it was the notorious buzzer dance. They are very unstable on their side and roof and will generally self right.

Maybe it was stuck and the tiny piece of rifle recoil made it start to dance.

I've managed to get an AI Motorhome back onto its wheels simply from firing a rifle at it, but Buzzers are well-known for their ability to break-dance when on their backs.

Camp Defense that cost me my one and only Heavy Laser.

236 Scout Ambushed.

HL rig rammed by a Big meanie in the first few turns, catches my rig on fire, rig slowly roasts throughout the engagement.

S741318

Needless to say, I am po'd, seriously angry. My rig was not breached, it had an enclosed engine, and how in the f do your rear weapons toast away when the fire should presumably be in the engine compartment.

Sometimes I really hate this game, this is one of those times!

If no one else is going to post it...

S743584. SS muscle scout pulls 6:11 odds (really 5:10, considering that Ashlee did nothing but run away from a flash). Pull it out with no losses (and low internals--I think just from two early rams).

This defense went south, fast!

Let's start with an ambush on Scattered Hills : Bridge Out.

10 turns in and Mad Butcher goes over the cliff with a full load of pooled guys!

Then some dumbazz went and forgot to put reloads in the new buzzer, the one that just went over the cliff.....oh, and there goes a phoenix after him,...oh, and a chomper.

You gotta see the guy do the matrix and dodge all 3 shots from a light rocket rack, great stuff!

So, as deep of a hole as we get into here, just like a good flick, everyone gets out alive somehow.

S748826

Hope you enjoy it. I've gotten several chuckles out of it.

2 Windsor II, 2 Phoenixes, and a Chomper up against 9 Slavers.

The Chomper gets rammed and taken out of action very quickly.

But nobody's going to Firelight today.

An excellent depiction of "kiting" in action.

My 314 scout in a dustup led my lorry squad right into a gnarly ambush. I've been in tight spots like this before but an enemy car managed to run into one of my fully loaded lorries and flip it on the side. I should have just cut my losses and run but I decided to fight and try to save the lorry. Ended up tossing in the towel before I lost more valuable gangers. Here's the losses:
> Buzzer w/5L and twin CCs
> 2x Lorries w/8L and twin CCs/twin NGs
> 2x Dustups
> 3x multiple spec gangers

Hurts but that's part of the Darkwind experience. ;)

What should have been a typical travel from Longoville to Badlands Truckstop turned into one of the most action packed battles I've had in a long time.

My lorry with buzzer escort are ambushed on Lonesome Highway. Four of them are coming up fast from behind in single file, with one lone yahoo charging from the front.

It is all action and mayhem featuring a one hit ram kill on a phoenix that catches fire. My lorry gets untangled from the wreckage of the phoenix just in time as it explodes, causing moderate damage to the bottom armor, it could have been much worse.

All of this is going on as the four from behind overrun and close combat ensues for many turns.

This is 40 turns of mayhem. S778590. Enjoy.

3 Buzzers out of Badlands against 604 fame Muties. Spawned 7, including a Dragon's Breath, a Garbageman, and a Heat Stroke. Also two razorbacks and a Black Stuff, the Black Stuff was let go after the FE demo'd.

Buzzer was in good condition except its CCs were toasted from side shots. FE was weak side armor but completely intact. TT was fairly trashed, it made it to loot pile but under 10% engine and 37% chassis.

Something that the newer players can look at and realize that even good loot is available in SS however rare it is.

A Lorry did what!?!?!?

S862112 Fetch This!! Vs Badland Rudeboys Scattered Hills

A Lorry transport with a Buzzer escort. Was a possible ambush in the worst spawn point. So I chose to spawn on the edge of a cliff with no room for error, otherwise a long drop down in front of the oncoming NPCs. This encounter shows you what a Lorry can do in adverse terrain conditions.

S862121 Fetch This!! Vs Phalanx Gates of BadlandsTruckstop

The gates return from the above encounter. Made a typical path towards town, running and gunning along the way. An unfortunate hill and weapons recoil caused my Buzzer to flip on its side and stay that way. With oncoming NPCs charging hard, my transport Lorry transformed into Battle Bot. She took on 4 vehicles in her attempt to save the Buzzer, A feisty scrapper a Lorry can be when backed into a corner!

Attacked by SS militia coming back into town. Only 13 rear armor left on my buzzer (with a rear weapon setup). Tried to run it out vs a Dervish, but that wasn't working, so I tried to get them to wreck off of terrain. In doing so, I turtled my buzzer while they were like 50m away. Got a guy out, with them bearing down, so I clicked 'surrender this vehicle' to try to save my crew. I guess my ped flipped the Buzzer (not sure. It started bouncing around as soon as my guy got out) at the last minute and it undemoed. Was able to take out the dervish with 3 rear armor left. Let the other car escape.

I was pretty sure I lost my guys and my car, but it turned out OK.

Should the BPU in the oil get hit by the bomb? its the Lorry on the right that blows up, not the one below the oil pit.
