This patch adds event playback! Something we've all been waiting for, for a long time.
I was initially going to start with races only but it made more sense to do all event types rather than have some recorded and then have to delete them due to obsolete file formats. You'll see a new button in the lobby which allows you to choose events to play back (all events from now on are being recorded). There will be a system that deletes playbacks that have been viewed less than twice, after a week.. each playback file is quite large on the server. There's also a couple of other little fixes.. one you will notice is that turns often roll quicker now |

I remember back when you thought this was impossible, great work!

Just a couple of bugs but I have to go do family stuff for a while... back ASAP..

Brilliant thanks Sam | ||

It's all working now I think.. I was mostly slowed down by a pair of out-of-control hyped-up-on-Christmas kids I call my sons..

One change I've noticed - I ran an event this evening and then quit, and didn't get the "unexpected error" message. Has this bug been squashed?
*sam* Posted Dec 15, 2008, 9:08 pm |
It's possible that it was a compiler error the last time around -- that's what I'm hoping anyway -- I have seen it happen before. |

There's still a few bugs in the playbacks - they seem to crash sometimes - but I think I have managed to fix the lobby mayhem when that happens anyway..

Do you mean the gameplay turns will be quicker, or turning (changing direction) in a car will result in rolling the car over more often? |

less of a delay after you submit your moves and the turn happening. |

Perhaps we could be given the option to save files locally, and play them for our own jolly amusement from our harddrives. Perhaps this could ease your conscience over erasing the less viewed replays Great, great addition. Feels like a milestone, somehow. |

They need to run from the server, unfortunately.. To be honest, any event that has been viewed less than twice is clearly not worth watching anyway! We're currently running around 1700 events per week! |

Scripts v.220 fixes the two most serious bugs in the playback system - one was causing the server to crash and the other was causing the VCR controls to stop doing anything.

would be nice to have a user rating system (like youtube) for sorting out the interesting recordings , like this say

Could you create a certain threshold of views, past which it would require less views before deleting? I'm thinking a special event or a really amazing encounter that gets tons of views early on, then a steady stream of people rewatching for months later, but not necessarily two a week every week? |
||
*sam* Posted Dec 16, 2008, 3:52 pm |
It's not two every week, it is:
(1) if less than 2 views in the first week (2) if less than 4 views in the first month (3) if less than 6 views in the first 4 months |

Maybe give each gang a set number of slots they can save events in indefinitely. Three each? Maybe make additional slots something you can buy with in-game cash as a way of taking some cash out of the system... The person who is saving any given event past it's shelf life has to manually spawn it into the lobby list.

I bet people will tend to look at events that other people have looked at, regardless of whether they're interesting or not

You're suggesting darth and his sublime RGM shooting isn't interesting? ;-)

how bout allowing a tag to show up in the client written by anyone from the client? i.e.; "opened a can of woupass", "disaster", "lucky" etc?

I am LOVING the replay feature. Post scouting post mortems have just got a whole load more interesting
One minor quibble is that paint comes down as shells or something so the whole "I would have wasted that guy but you painted me and that's why you lost that car" argument isn't going to be resolved. |

Dogbreath Posted Dec 16, 2008, 9:33 pm |
And while I'm complaining about something marvellous can we have events listed by number of participants and maps? I want to see what strategies people are using, and whether they're working or not!

Great feature. The one of mine I've watched (Iron Horse vs. Sabre Dogs) ends before the final turn. My lorry rammed two cars and they both demoed before the end of the turn. It appears the video shows up to the last complete turn. |
