Advanced Labs (which is kind of like Google Labs, those bastards stole our name!) has released the new and improved (and still in beta) Darkwind carbuilder.
The new URL is http://klickelaat.com/darkwind/carbuilder/ Whats new: * Fixed Sonic Bulk. * Added Flail, Osprey, Pike, Turin pictures/info. * Fixed Ambulance/Firetruck/Squadcar/57 maximum armor. * A slight style change. * Added the ability to save chsasis designs * Added the abilty to make images out of saved chassis designs. (Useful for sharing designs) * New webhost (so it's no longer hosted on my home DSL line with a dismal 25kbs upload, it's still the cheapest decent-looking hosting I could find though ) Here's a demo of the image feature: (Suggestions welcome on how to improve the layout/looks of this) Currently it only shows the 20 most recent designs in the right hand bar, but if people like the idea of saving/sharing designs I'll add better indexing features. Other stuff I'm planning is to add an option to generate code to post designs on the wiki and plaintext (suggestions welcome on a standard format to use for this). |

Very nice, except the pike can't have armor put on it, 0 max per side and 0 total.
Alocalypse Posted Nov 20, 2008, 5:55 pm |
whoops, I discovered overwrote some of the chassis data I updated so it didn't have the armor data properly (along with some other updated chassis), it's all fixed now.
Marrkos Posted Nov 20, 2008, 6:01 pm |
Not sure how accurate you want it to be, but your CR calcs don't seem to be right.
It's very cool though, and I look forward to seeing the wiki-postable output. |
||||
Alocalypse Posted Nov 20, 2008, 6:07 pm |
Ah, it doesn't actually do CR calcs, I forgot to remove that bit of static HTML. I might add it later, though it's a bit of work gathering/adding all the new data (I'd like to add somewhat-accurate prices on things too)
|
||||
Marrkos Posted Nov 20, 2008, 6:13 pm |
That's no joke. Pricing would be cool, but how would you keep in up-to-date (rhetorical)? |
||||
Alocalypse Posted Nov 20, 2008, 6:17 pm |
If I'd just go for an rough ballpark estimate of the base NPC sell prices (before piracy levels and availibility) then that wouldn't change very much I guess. Figuring that stuff out is a challenge on its own though which is why I haven't done it yet. |
||||
Alocalypse Posted Nov 20, 2008, 11:25 pm |
I updated the image layout so it should look a lot more presentable now.
*Lugal* Posted Nov 20, 2008, 11:56 pm |
Looks good Alo!
Any way you could add an estimated travel range to a design? |
||||
Kime Dennory Posted Nov 21, 2008, 1:32 am |
Or possibly more similar to Muppet Labs? -KD |

Victor Posted Nov 21, 2008, 5:29 am |
Looks great, except for the armor/weapons overlap. Also, it showed 8 tires when I built it... which explains some loot screens, but it's probably not right. Now, on to the begging... please, pretty please, with dose of Y-49s on top, add a decal/avatar option? This is almost a perfect Darkwind sig maker. Oh. And, of course, it needs a link to www.dark-wind.com, for use in other gaming forums. VERY nice work, Alo. |
||||
*Lugal* Posted Nov 21, 2008, 6:20 am |
Also, could you make the linkable image display the engine?
Alocalypse Posted Nov 21, 2008, 9:12 am |
You mean like having a custom picture instead of the chassis image? That's not terribly hard to do and I was considering having multiple versions of chassis pics availible anyway (a lot of the chassis pics I have are out of date right now.) So I might do that later. I moved the armor display slightly and added the engine display in the image (something I overlooked) it also shows a link to www.dark-wind.com at the bottom right now. |

Looks great alo!. If it would help, feel free to request data from me - as long as it's not something I consider "hidden" then I'm happy to supply it.
Marrkos Posted Nov 21, 2008, 5:06 pm |
The signature image created by Alo's carbuilder is very cool, so I am adding that capability to the other vehicle designer.
Wasn't sure if I should make it really different, or really the same, so I went with as close as I could come to his layout. edit: now it's really close, of course, as he has provided the image background. |
||||
Alocalypse Posted Nov 21, 2008, 6:17 pm |
If you want you can use my background template from http://klickelaat.com/darkwind/carbuilder/imgheader.png
I also have a photoshop version of it if you want. I'm considering trying out a more rugged and rusty design for it instead that fits with the whole DW theme better. |
||||
Marrkos Posted Nov 21, 2008, 6:31 pm |
Very cool!
Thanks! |
||||
Marrkos Posted Nov 22, 2008, 4:51 am |
Updated the link in the sticky for when this thread falls off the front page.
Victor Posted Nov 23, 2008, 9:43 am |
I meant like a forum avatar or decal image, such as the 88 MPH Marrkos has on his mockup. Also, the Cargo icon isn't terribly intuitive, unless you already know what it is. Perhaps a little suitcase silhouette? |
||||
Marrkos Posted Nov 23, 2008, 4:49 pm |
Just to be clear, the image I posted isn't a mockup, it's the actual image output from the downloadable designer application. |
||||
Alocalypse Posted Nov 23, 2008, 6:01 pm |
That's a good idea, I'll look into it later.
There's something weird with the total armor display though, it should be 136, not 224. |
||||
Marrkos Posted Nov 23, 2008, 6:27 pm |
LOL.
I thought that was Combat Rating, not Total Armor, so I put the vehicle's CR over there. |
||||
*Lugal* Posted Nov 24, 2008, 3:05 am |
I noticed some chassis don't let you mount rear weapons either - the hearse and buzzer, for example.
Victor Posted Nov 24, 2008, 3:56 am |
At the moment, I don't think it's allowing ANY chassis to add rear-mounted weapons.
Alocalypse Posted Nov 24, 2008, 3:52 pm |
Oops, that's something I managed to break while I fixed the tires thing due to lazyness. It's fixed now.
I'll add more layouts and features in a while, I'm planning to rewrite most of my stuff in python (with Django) anyway. |
||||
*Lugal* Posted Nov 25, 2008, 5:54 am |
Lookin' good! Thanks for putting this together!
4saken Posted Nov 29, 2008, 12:45 am |
how about someone adding a link for this to the stickied carbuilder thread?
Alocalypse Posted Nov 29, 2008, 2:57 pm |
I think Marrkos already updated the links there.
Marrkos Posted Nov 29, 2008, 11:19 pm |
I made a small change to the image generated by the designer application.
As noted in previous message the shield icon shows the vehicle's Combat Rating rather than Total Armor as the web-based designer does. The small change is to put the total armor amount in the armor 'section'. |

Can't you ask Sam for hosting?
a separate subdirectory might solve it. |
