* A bunch of lord foul’s excellent screenshots are now used as loading screens. JD is also planning to use the images as the basis for a regular column in the Gazette, starting next issue ;)
* Re-tweaked firing arcs – these are now 75 degrees front/rear and 105 degrees left/right
* Finally fixed the temporary freeze-up when a car explodes!. It was actually caused by inefficient calculations in the code that blackens the car skin.
* Assassination missions – kill the leader of a named NPC gang. Failure in this case dents your fame but not your reputation, and always leads to a bounty on your head. Success reduces you rep and increases fame (depending on talkativeness of client). You must be the squad owner in a combat with the enemy for the assassination mission to trigger.
* Courage specialisms (cost is 150 per level): Courage Under Fire, Pragmatist, Adrenalin Junkie, Eye of the Hurricane

All that stuff (with the exception of the just added specs) is already on the wiki.

Last one two:

Is Shoot from the hip available via Gunnery/Large Gunnery, or just Hand Guns?

Does it apply to characters firing vehicle weapons or just personal weapons?

Just HG

Only handguns. I have updated the page, as this wasn't stated.

Is it a safe assumption that Car Killer is set up the same way?  (Only HG, only personal weapons)

Maybe thge handguns skill need s a conceptual name change ?

Because it covers multiple out-of-the-car activities and because of the impending missions that this skill will relate to?
Maybe rename it "Combat survival" or "Self Defense" or " "Fighter"
or something?

Or have a new skill ( which would bork the be-swollen databse. I guess)?

At 150, I have 3 qualified for specs. If you dropped it to 125, i would have 5, with 2 within 1 or 2 points of getting a spec. If you dropped it to 100, I would have 21 qualified for a spec.....little too many here...

I don't know.

I have twenty people with specs of various kinds, and have at least two people with a spec in every single skill I'm training my guys in except for trucking (ALMOST) and psionics.  I'm getting close to having some people with double specs.

On the other hand, I wouldn't have a single person with a single courage spec even if we changed the requirement to 100.  I do have one person at 97 and another couple between 90 and 95 though.

So, Longo, the real question is, how many specs do these people have who would get a courage spec if this was made 100?  If it's two, three, five, or thirteen, is it really that unreasonable that they'd get a courage spec too?

At 150, as I have mentioned before, I will almost certainly have people with over eight specialisms of other kinds before they get a single courage specialism... in fact, some of them will probably be maxed out in most of their skills by the time they get a single courage specialism, and I think that's a little strange.  Yes, yes, if I constantly nearly get them killed, they'll level up courage somewhat faster, but there isn't another specialism that makes you go out of your way to do strange and (let's face it) stupid things in order to get it.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed to go check my members page and saw that my highest courage was 88.

We could do a vote on the courage per-spec cost? 150 was simply based on what seemed to be the (non-unanimous) opinion when this was discussed a few days ago.

Id say Lugal that you need to go to some harder areas. Places where u have to run for a set time to get an advantage. This will help gain courage...if you live:)

Heh, oh I'm sure.  I'm just comfortable in my slow-but-safe lifestyle in Somerset.  There's only so much excitment my old ticker can take.

Big Scouts really help with courage. Having a char looking at 33 pirate chars can get some a little spooked.

I found a way to get them to learn courage is send them on a travel with a car with little armour. put 3 poibnts per side and they instantly start the evnt yellow. run them away and it will turn green. insta-courage

another way is to put an injured char in the car with them. they get a little freaked when the gunner is all bandaged up firing a gun.

from that i never put chars in the hospital, it only beneifts to make them scout injured.

I was able to take some assassination missions. I took one and brought Latte along. It was out of BL, and it was against the Desert Scorpions, to kill their leader. I clicked on it, and it sai dI had so many hours to complete. Well I went and scouted the Desert scorpions, and located their leader (I looked him up on gang page.) Needless to say, we killed him. Nothing special happened. I got more normal 3 fame for winning a scout... No extra 47k for killing the leader. So I took another one in SS, to kill the leader of Xenas Angels. I again was gived a tim elimit to do this. Well , we scouted them, and leader wasnt in the crew we encountered. After done, I just happened to check my mission tab, and there was nothing listed....

What did I do wrong?

What were the dates on the missions, did you notice?

I ran some tests and all seemed to work ok. Unfortunately the game log (S78786) didn't reveal much either so I have added extra information to that.

The first one was the top one listed, said I had to have it done by December 19th? But i think it said I had like 112 or 102 hrs to complete it...which mathematically didnt add up.

And just to make sure that I did everything correct, I went into the tavern, accepted the mission, then went and scouted that gang. During that scout, I kill te egang leader if they are there?

Also, this mission should be listed under my missions?

If I scout them, and their leader is not in the scout, I still have my time frame to find and kill themk? Not just a 1 scout chance to get it done and then I fail?

That should have worked, yes.

Yes. You did see them listed there when you initially took them? And its success/failure should be logged in your recent activities too (which I see it isn't). Something weird happened for sure.

GG Barfowski posted over in the bugs forum that the assassination missions are remaining on the notice board, i.e. not actually being given to you at all. I'll fix that now... it explains what you experienced..

I just took another one. Xenas Angels.
It was from Geoffrey Ford, kill leader before 12/19/2008 at 5:04:34 for 15k. Leader was Florence Reily. I blew apart her Windsor II when I spotted her on The Road to Somerset. She died in the battle. I have screenshots to comfirm the mission, etc. After I took it, it only said you have 109 hours to complete the mission. Before I scouted, I checked my missions tab and there was nothing at all listed.

PS - If ya see Geoffrey, tell him his owes Longo 15k. And that bum in BL, I cant remember his name...but he owes me 47k. And the Fame, oh, dont forget the fame! Hehe

Sam-
Regarding Assasination Missions. Does one of your gangers have to kill the leader, or just anyone in the squad? Also will other gangs take neg rep hit for you completing the mission if they are involved in the scout?
