After the new patch installation the lobby loaded up at 640x480. I've switched it back to 800x600 but before exiting the options screen i've made the mistake of clicking on the fullscreen button. The lobby naturally switched to fullscreen, which i dont like.

I opened up the options screen and unchecked the fullscreen option and when i clicked ok the lobby crashed. Now I can't start it up anymore, even after several reboots...

Hrmm strange. Can you download this file:

darkwind/client/prefs.cs

and save it in the darkwind/client/ folder

Then re-run the game. This should reset the preferences to default values

Yes - mine was reset to the defaults, too. Started at 640x480 opengl, music on etc.

Well, that prefs overwrite patch worked! As the lobby again started up at 640x480 res I went to the options and changed it to 800x600 and opengl to d3d. When I clicked on ok the lobby minimized... and stayed that way. No way to get it back up.

So I did the whole thing again - closed the lobby and changed the preferences file with the one you gave, rebooted then fired up the lobby...

This time it started up minimized! I can even hear the lobby music through the headphones... Looked into the dw / client folder and the 4.83 kb prefs file you gave me was overwritten by a new 4.94 kb copy.

Tried the same prefs file trick a few more times but it isn't working anymore... It's as if dw had some other pref file where it's keeping record of the options changes. At this point i'd be willing to play the game at 640x480 res, just to get my dw fix! :)

At least I can listen to the soundtrack! :)

Hmm, very strange. I don't understand why the patch triggered this issue at all in fact. Did you try a full re-install?

Everything EXCEPT the resolution (mine is set at 1024x768) went back to default for me as well Sam....

I had to reset all the prefs, options and what-not. Using a MAC here.

I guess the new server must have decided that the prefs file had updated, and forced everyone to patch it.

I'll remove prefs.cs from all future patching.

I think some graphics cards are reacting badly to resolutions they can't handle - yours can't manage 1024x768, champ. What *should* happen is that best resolution that *can* be managed is reverted to, but some systems seem to just give a black screen.

I'm loathe to put 800x600 as the default as that gives a bad impression to new players.

Did you notice whether 1024x768 was listed as an option for you, champ?

What might fix it for you is if you manually edit darkwind/client/prefs.cs and (towards the bottom) change

$pref::Video::resolution = "1024 768 32";

to

$pref::Video::resolution = "800 600 32";

I see champ has the most problems and seems to be the only one. question is what video card does champ have and what is his computer's processor type and speed
