Darkwind
NPC Gang Descriptions

Jansan

Some of the gang descriptions tell you a bit about the gangs, like the Sabre Dogs and the Darkwind. When I read the Sabre Dogs description, for instance, I see an old military dog who controls a bunch of thugs and punks who he orders around and treats like fodder.

However, others, like Boss, have snappy one-liners but don't really give you a description of the gang.

If you have suggestions or themes you'd like to see for NPC gangs that don't have a lot of info available, write them here! Or if you'd just like to see more on certain gangs.

They don't have to be long; a sentence or two at most is usually enough (and all that will fit).

Here's my first:

Boss
This gang of rough and tumble thugs are well-known for their brutal aggression towards even the smallest infractions.

They're not changing this unless t is ever actually stopped.  ;)

Neat idea Jansan; I'll see if I can come up with a worthy submission.

Ye, good idea. Or if you can think up any new gang names and descriptions, we can use those too.

Thanks, glad this is well received. :)

I have a suggestion for Xena's Angels and a new gang as well:

Xena's Angels - (As I'm guessing this is named after a person, so I went with that)
Before the wasteland pirate Xena took over, this gang used to engage in only petty theft and senseless vandalism. Now, they have a nasty habit of waylaying traders that stray too far from main roads.

Tears of Blood - Bounty Hunter
This unorganized gang of criminal hunters is composed mostly of self-appointed vigilantes who suffered personal tragedies at the hands of brigands. If the reward for a bounty is dead or alive, they consistently choose dead.

--

We also may need more description space, if that's the problem with the Batonville Militia. :)

Roadkill Ninjas
These scavengers often let someone else do the dirty work, and swoop in the to take anything left behind. Now they've got some vehicles of their own. These crews are not the "gutless cowards" talked about in bars!

Hope you don't mind Gro... Just a few typos and a small change at the bottom.

new gang suggestion:
Ice Colds-
A gang of desperate pirates who will do whatever it takes to build a working refridgerator.
Groove Champion

The Crusaders:
A tough cycle gang from the deserts north of Gateway

Since they never ride on motorcycles, perhaps this gang needs a more general description?

I suggest: The actions of these ruthless pirates are dictated by the brutal decrees of a madman know only as Arch-Cardinal Bob of the North

Children of the Armageddon - This ramshackle cult relies on the desperation and ignorance of the times to recruit naive adolescents by promising neverending life in paradise to those that die in service to the gang. Known for their chemically inspired courage and general incompetence these pimple faced psychopaths can be more dangerous than they first appear.

Disgruntled Mechanics - Contrary to what you might expect this disorganized collective shackle together whatever junk they can get their hands on to build deathmachines in the interest of looting better engines for faster cars - expect permadamaged chassis and clapped out prestige engines.

Thanks Sam!

Ok everyone I've been putting some hours in. I pasted Sam's list of NPC Gangs into the wiki and I've been working on formatting it. So far I have all of the Somerset gangs done and I'm now moving on to the Elmsfield gangs. It's giving me a message that the article is too big so I'll probably be breaking it up into separate articles.

Do you guys prefer it sorted by town or sorted by gang type (Pirate, Racer, Trader, etc.)?

Link: NPC Gangs

Edit: Ok everyone I've finished going through the entire list now, so go check it out. Feedback is welcome. :)

* Cursed Earth - Change "combats" to "combat".

* Independent Driver Association - Change "mercernary" to "mercenary".

Sam, if you're able to past the text back into the game I'd be happy to proof read all of the NPC Gang descriptions on that list you posted to fix spelling, etc. and then post the corrected version for you to cut and paste. That would save you a ton of time.

Many of your spelling "corrections" are simply converting correct UK spellings into American, and therefore both unnecessary and unlikely to be done.

Oh... I thought I avoided those. Are they the "s" to "z" ones?

There are definitely a number that are wrong in both places.

Keep in mind those were only the Somerset ones!

Yes, all the "s" to "z" are American spellings, as is "behavior" vs. "behaviour." Hitmen is also accepted as both a compound word and two words, even in America. I believe you're correct about the other compound words, at least as far as American English is concerned. Not certain if British English is more likely to combine words than we are, though.

But generally, nice job and thanks for all the effort.

My suggested changes to existing Elmsfield gang descriptions:

* Change all cases of "deathracing" to "Death Racing"

* Change all cases of "cattlefarmers" to "cattle farmers"

* My Bloody Valentine - Change "influentual" to "influential"

* Hammerstein - For some reason the current description: "Somehow - through being the son of radiation victims - Jimmie has got the sixth sense - the mind force" just doesn't make much sense to me, but since I don't know what was intended, I'm not sure how to fix it either.

* Oracle - Change "forseen" to "foreseen"

* Iron Wing - Change "politcal" to "political"

* Evan Postal Service (EPS) - Change "EPS WILL" to "EPS *will*"

My suggested changes to existing Texan gang descriptions:

* The Texan Ultimatum - Change "bountyhunter" to "bounty hunter"

* Debbie Does Dallas - Change "thay" to "they"

* Sons of the Confederacy - The current description is: "Staunch in their belief that oil equals power, these guys consider the black gold to be theirs and none others, and they fight for their belief wielding the confederate flag of old, holding to its values in a twisted new world order." I suggest changing it to "Staunch in their belief that oil equals power, these guys consider the black gold to be theirs and theirs alone. Their banner is the Confederate flag of old, holding to whatever long forgotten values their leaders claim it once stood for in their attempt to forge a twisted new world order."

My suggested changes to the existing Shantyville gang descriptions:

* Shantyville Militia - The current description is identical to the one for the Firelight Militia. What do you think of something more along the lines of "Defeated too many times in recent years and lacking in any real leadership, they barely have the numbers to protect their own families, much less town visitors." My thought is their equipment isn't necessarily poor, they just have low numbers so they never go further out than the town gates. They don't send out patrols. They only guard the town.

* Lacerators - Change "scarifications" to "scarification"

The majority of the descriptions have been written by the player base which spans the globe ( though a high proportion are UK and US )

You will find a lot of 'local dialect' can creep into the descriptions, which to my mind give them flavour.

Of course i say potatoe you say potato each to their own.

Ok I've PM'd Sam with the original list he posted with the spelling and punctuation fixes so hopefully he can paste that whole thing in rather than having to change them one at a time.

I'm now re-posting the ones that were done with my Player's hat on rather than my Proof-Reader's hat. I did not include these changes in the PM I sent to Sam. IMO it would have been inappropriate for me to do so.

The first two are total re-writes. The third is an edit.

Morgan Militia - Originally just a group of Morgan residents working together to resist the Eviscerator pirates, they've evolved over time to become the official town militia.

Shantyville Militia - The current description is identical to the one for the Firelight Militia. I suggest, "Defeated too many times in recent years and lacking in any real leadership, they barely have the numbers to protect their own families, much less town visitors." My thought is their equipment isn't necessarily poor, they just have low numbers so they never go further out than the town gates. They don't send out patrols. They only guard the town.

Sons of the Confederacy - Change to "Staunch in their belief that oil equals power, these guys consider the black gold to be theirs and theirs alone. Their banner is the Confederate flag of old, holding to whatever long forgotten values their leaders claim it once stood for in their attempt to forge a twisted new world order." I have been in contact with Grograt via PM since identified himself as the author and he has approved this change.

The Naga – a mutant NPC gang

The Naga – a powerful band of mutants who worship the desert snake.

Roaming the northern deserts they strike hard and fast from under the cover of the many sand storms in this region.

Their leader – The King of the Serpents – is said to have drunk the venom of a mutant serpent and been given god like powers.

A few more ideas:

Tasters of Blood:
These eaters of flesh wade into battle in blood red cars. Red with blood of their defeated foes, as are their hands when they come to feast.

Berserkergang:
Tales from the wastelands say that they are as mad as wolves, biting upon their own arms. As strong as bears, killing people with a single blow, with neither fire nor iron telling upon them

Wolf-skins:
Said to be dress in wolf hides that are reputed to channel the spirits of the wolf to enhance effectiveness in battle. These warriors are resistant to pain and love to kill viciously in battle, much like wild animals.

Skinwalkers:
With glowing eyes and wearing nothing apart from an animal skin, Skinwalkers can catch your soul with their glowing eyes and rip it out. These practitioners of the dark arts are know for their pure evil ways.

We submitted additional gang names for Morgan a little over a year ago. Still waiting to see if Sam will add this to his long list of things to do.

There are also additional gangs needed in other towns too. Some town events only have 1 or 2 NPC gangs entered because that is all that is there. This is not a priority, but hopefully it can be addressed after the relaunch.

If you want to view some of the gangs names, they are in the Suggestions Forum 5th page, "Sam, Fix Morgan!!! Please!" page 3.

OK - having just done a few events in Texan it would appear that the town needs a top up of Gangs on the circuit and in the arena. Thinking caps on everyone please!!!

Some suggestions:
Death Racers
Wildcatters – Forced out of business by the big boys, this group of renegades are looking to restore their fortunes on the Death Racing Circuit.

Burnin’ Rubber – With wheels on fire, they’re racing down the road, notify your next of kin, You’re goin’ to explode

Young Inks – High decorated cars and drivers, when not on the circuit these guys are found in the paint shops and tattoo parlours of Texan perfecting their looks

Arena
South Improvement Company – If you’re not part of the program then you’re part of the problem

Texan Arms and Armour – Corporate sponsored team, showcasing the best in weapons and armour supplied by their parent company

Longhorns – Hailing from the open ranges near Texan, these boys are as tough as the hills and as about as friendly as the giant snakes that live there.

The Dodge City Boys – A group of misfits from the slums around Texan, looking to make good in the arena

High Fives – Going to give you five, five minutes to live that is

Racers
Arthur’s Automobiles – Little back street chop shop, racing on a tight budget and doing surprisingly well

The Brothers of Speed – Religious nuts who think that the only way to heaven is behind the wheel of a fast automobile

Texan Company – A group of wealthy Merchants kids, playing at being racing drivers before they have to take over the family business

Some more modern car / transportation references could be fun for some civilian factions.

North Triangle Transport Co.
Nobody generates mail like Somerset. Deathracers Carmichael and Evan Bob have seen fit to form the NTT Co. to help address the demand.

Southbound Taxi-Cab Company
(You could even do Taxi companies in each town.)
Issuing Taxi-Badges to independent operators between Texan and Badlands Truckstops, this rideshare service occasionally coalesces to get a whole traveling Group on-board large passenger vehicles.

Face Lyft
Originally designed as a mobile consignment and pawn shop, the founders of the smash hit Face Lyft have since turned their profits to privateering.

The Teslairds
An exclusive gentleperson's club for owners of fancy cars and rare technology.

Truckstop Mobile Triage
A mobile training hospital roaming from Gateway to Badlands Truckstops.

I kind of wish some (if not all) of the gangs did more than one thing. I mean, pirate gangs never compete in town events, and the gangs that do town events only ever do one type.

If I was a pirate, I would do deathraces and combats.

Or would that give the NPCs too much training?
