I'll start the ball/wheel rolling first!

- changeable color for the ghost cars, to make it easily contrastable with dim backgrounds

- tricking out cars and having custom paint jobs at Jake's

- ability to track non-friendly cars

- a more friendly interface

- running about town through client interface ala Fallout, as an alternative for those with more time and faster PCs who wish to play with the snazzy graphics and don't want to use the web browser

- more frequent races

- manual transmission

- more racing arenas! :D

Thanks guys :-)

Good idea, that should definitely be added..

The problem with this is that every player will have to download the custom texture in order to see you car properly. This very quickly becomes hard to manage..

Can you elaborate on these?

That was actually the original intention, but it just didn't make sense to spend the time duplicating functionality on both the web version and the 3D version. New features have to take priority.. but maybe some day  ;-)

How frequent?

manual transmission

This is kind-of simulated through driver skill. The better your driver, the better your car behaves..

Well we now have viKKing on the case.. so we should be seeing new maps of all types starting to appear soon-ish.. :-)

viKKing who?  :p
So I'll start a poll for the next kind of track you most want.

Suggestion: 1 camera per player's car in game.
I mean, each player's car should have it's own camera, so view angles are preserved and you don't have to rotate the camera each time you switch between car.

Nice idea. I had vague plans to improve multi-car control, but what you say here is a nice elegant way to do it..

One request:
photographer mode in which you don't have damage messages and unlimited time to take shots -> server receives a wait signal until a specific key is stroke. Might be limited to NPC races though.

That's really needed and would be very appreciated.

Yep.. I was actually going to suggest that you have this feature, as the chronicler.. I will IM you about it..

Yeah that makes sense.

I find the windows taking up too much space. Would be nicer if the steering wheel and speedometers were smaller and placed on the side of the screen or something, so that they do not get in the way of the action

The chat windows could be a little more transparent, and perhaps resized such that they are wider and shorter

The colors of the text which you type in the main lobby are also too hard to see B)

As you can see, most of the stuff has been crammed to the bottom and right hand side

I would prefer it if movable windows eg. Rankings are resizable. Also, Would be nice if we could customise the size of our chat windows. I think the text colors should be customisable too, not just for aesthetic purposes, but also due to people who may be color blind, or colors that are hard to see because they blend in with the environment

For the camera tracking ability, I realised that you can't follow cars that don't belong to you, whereas you can for your own cars

How many times did I asked for windows position saving sam... :P

You don't know all the tips of the game ! ;)
It's P to resize the Chat (event) window :)

Yeah I knew that. Nevertheless, putting it on top obstructs a large part of the view. It kind of narrows the FOV a lot

wuz thinking about the custom paintjobs...any way to have the custom job uploaded to the server when bought then when a client launches for an event have it download new textures?

oh yeah I definately sgree about the resizable chat windows suggestion....the top one tends to obscure the most important part of the track...where I'm going ;)

the colour of the ghost car is pretty important too...in some instances it's pretty hard to see it...imposed over another car.and when there's alot of dust kicked up...

Um.. once, as far as I remember ;-)
It's still on the "little things that need to get done" list. I dip into this every now and then when I'm too worn out to work on core stuff.
I was adding camera bookmarks yesterday, which I think will be useful: you press CTRL-1, CTRL-2 etc. to remember a position, then 1, 2 etc. to move back to that position. Also planned is to have a predefined set of bookmarks for each racktrack, on the key corners etc.

toecutter:

Regarding paintjobs: yes, that is feasible. It would need a bit of work though since the Torque game engine insists on synchronising everything between client and server.

as i was walking home just now, i was thinking of new arenas/tracks. how are these made? what program do you guys use?

as far as combat arenas, i was thinking of something symmetrical, flat, and a little more open. the current one leads to the massive pile up everytime. i'll do some sketches for people to comment/rip on.

i'm guessing that terrain/hills are less laggy than using objects as the border of the arena?

or, as a side note to the current arena map, would it be possible to move the spawn points of the red team? put them next to the windmill, but facing the blue team.

or do the AI cars 'see' barriers?

Another 2 features I'd like to see:

- The ability to run off-line sessions on the tracks, just to get used to the track

- A button to let us reset the steering wheel to the way it was during the previous orders phase. For example, if previously my wheel was turned 45 degs clockwise, and in the current orders phase, I turn it 90 degrees clockwise (and I happen to forget how much my wheel was turned previously), then hitting the Reset Wheel Position button will let my steering wheel be reset to the previous position

Joer-

Yes, terrain/hills are quicker to render than buildings/objects. I think it's only the lowest-end computers (such as yours) that will notice much difference however ;)

We have a mission builder program, which is nice but it does take a little learning to get good at (especially, getting things like skies and lighting effects right). viKKing has actually taken over as the the official mapping dude (TM) so perhaps you can discuss it with him? I'm sure sketches etc. would be cool :-)

The AI cars do "see" barriers, yes, although they're not perfect at avoiding them, as you may have noticed.
