After ped equipment

Don't know was outside during this part
fix the gazette car
Yes but again was away from the call
no Harry
Don't know also his name is Humpy
update tez's track
Don't know

Come on guys, stuff like this should be discussed among more of the player base for different POVs before dragging Sam away from the things he is actively trying to implement. Focus... the big picture.

If Sam has the time to take on more, that is up to him. I would much rather see one thing be completed first before more items gets dumped on his lap causing delays.

I know everyone wants to see more and may have good suggestions to discuss, but there is only one Sam, so lets not overload him.

X, as Game Manager shouldn't be organising town meetings and writing agendas your job?

Yes, have done many over years and have the lists with plans. Even fed Hati a copy so he knows what the goals are.

Trying for mass implementations all at once is not the way to get things done.

Yeah, xman is spot on. One thing at a time.

Discuss all this in the suggestions bug fixes whatever but no agenda pushing needed.

Thanks Hati, and X_Man.
I hope I made it pretty clear that the camp wars stuff is priority.. other things can be assessed now, but nothing substantial is happening until after implementing the camp wars - there's still a lot of work to do on them. Small quality-of-life things could be ok sooner, if they'd genuinely be useful.

Hear Yea! Hear Yea! One at a time.
:mad:Besides soon the DarkWind will be called 'give your neighbor a flower'.
This is the WasteLand and I hear more and more of making it a soft pile of crap! It seems every penalty, every hardship wants to be paid to fix or changed at the players whim.
The fact the game has HardCore repercussions is what makes DarkWind!
Just One Example = Pay to reduce bad rep? Really? You earn a bad rep and it takes time and Efforts to reduce it!
You have to work the Wasteland!
If anyone else getting the feeling I am? Past while all I hear is making the Greatest game Soft. Go play a game with save points and leave DarkWind HardCore!
Who is with me on this ????

Is anyone Like Minded???? Do any Wastelanders Agree???

None of the items discussed or mentioned are expected to be implemented immediately, we simply wanted to probe the ideas of them to see if they'd be feasible in the future. Everybody is well aware that Camp Wars takes priority, nobody has even remotely argued that. Those of us not actively engaged in camp related stuff would just like to know what's possible in the future.

One of the things I specifically said at the meeting was that anything that was more than a quality-of-life improvement (i.e. anything that's an actual rule change) would need wider discussion first.

Unrelated observation: no one talking about how the gang is getting soft plays a Scav gang.

In these town meetings, nobody asks the important questions.

Who is Gang #1? *Sam* is #2, Jim (Pole Position) is #3(I have no idea who Jim is, except when I first started he used to comment on the forums).

What was the first chassis created?

What was the first weapon created?

Is it safe to assume that vehicle #1 is owned by the Somerset Bank? :)

Good questions Longo!

Jim is my brother. The very first event was a race on the Dirt Racing track with him and a few of his friends who we recruited to help out in the very early testing. Late 2005.

Gang #1 is 'Weekend Warriorz', belonging to one of Jim's friends. I manually entered the database records, and accidentally got #1 and #2 around the wrong way. The database lived on my laptop back then, there was no permanent server.

The offroad buggy - which came with the Torque game engine.
The 2nd was an open-top 2-seater Cobra, but I removed it rather than have to show ganger models in it (we had none of those available).

Probably the MG.  But I think a number of weapons arrived in the game together. That was a few months after the first races.

Nope.  Wilderness scouting didn't arrive until late 2006, and there had been town races and deathraces regularly running for months before that. Prizes had included chassis (before there were even mechanic shops).  Vehicle #1 is an offroad buggy called Kermit owned by a gang called Navarone. This is not one of those initial gangs though, so I'm not sure exactly the history there. It's gang #287

But you also got me digging a bit to find the oldest materials I have.

Here's the very first screenshot. July 2005. I had just hacked the Torque game engine and successfully made the physics engine pause time on command. So I was gleefully dropping buggies on top of each other and watching the physics pause as they bounced:

Here's a screenshot of the 3rd racetrack I was working on (November 2005):

And here's the car models I was working on at the time (also November 2005). I hadn't yet decided that it was safer not to use real-world car names.. so we have names like Prelude (= Symphony).

But the oldest thing I could find was my first concept document, August 2004:

I'm thinking we could have our next town meeting on the 2nd or 3rd of May. All the camps would have been moved by then and I'm sure we'll all have a few questions.
*sam*

Yeah that could work. We should be into the first week of the first two week cycle at that stage, so camps will be deploying their CR.

Whilst on a nostalgia trip I just looked at the 'World Map' section on the Game Info page:

The World Map
The World Map (ok, continental map!) allows you to zoom around between the towns, and log in to a specific town's interface by clicking on it.
You control the travel orders of any squads that you own from this map.

You also select facilities such as factories, camps, and farms, in order to manage them (if you own them) or find out a little about them (if you don't own them). You will also be able to initiate attacks on facilities owned by NPCs or other players.

it sounds like in original conception camps would have been more specialised.
*sam*

Bonus piece of trivia! I didn't really consider using a web interface for the first few months. Originally the town interface was done in game and when you clicked on a named building the camera would zoom into it and a 2D interface would pop up.

http://www.dark-wind.com/images/4-somerset.jpg

This was far too much work, though. And it was also much less flexible, so for example adding new buildings to the 3D town model was a lot more effort than just adding a database entry with a screenshot.

Oh Sam..
" just adding a database entry with a screenshot"
you say that like it sounds easy... lol... that's not over my head in CONCEPT... but in practice.. LOL
