Well, there’s some bits of CW I’d certainly want to see left out...

Making it Aero, Boat, Tank, PogoStick Wars. Not a fan. Stick to the basics.

:p  Give Devil its due.
Lots of great nights hunched over paper maps with cut outs and dice.
Its a players own choice to stay simple with Killer Karts in a little arena or get pimped in East MidVille with an armada of vehicles and include character roll play using GURPS. Sky is the limit.
;) Today its DarkWind for me. Car Combat on the PC is a whole different way to game, roleplay and just get lost in my MadMax Fantasy. I Love DarkWind.

...what? No Boat Wars???

That's mine! Right there on the back: Gary Canterbury :D

My pals and I were FANATICAL about CWs...built out our own Hot Wheels cars...built a two-level 8' x 6' arena with gun turrets, fan stands, traps, ramps...third level raceway for the really brave!

Also had some Big Al's additions and got Supercharged Turbos in the game.

No Boat Wars? Really? :(

Already playing tabletop Gaslands (Refueled) (as seen on South Park). Loving it.

The new cars I've seen for CWs suck. If I pick it up again I'll make my own...or try and dig out all the ones we already did way back when dinosaurs ruled the planet and you had to fight off the velociraptors to get to the K-Mart to buy new Hot Wheels and scout through the model kits looking for weapons that would look good mounted up.

Only thing I want to see in DW2 is a random map generator.

I always wanted to give boat wars a go.

Was looking for a good box set with the compendium, some maps and counters (I haven't got any anymore) best I could find was $80US which is a bit steep after shipping etc.

One guy is asking $379.00 for the compendium alone, used condition.

You wanna talk loot?

Hijack a freighter. :D

And, yes, the after-market prices for CWs original stuff is astronomical. Luckily, I have one of everything (and a few copies) stuffed away in storage...somewhere.

Every now and then I'll find a bargain on something and I'll scarf that up. But yeah, some people are nuts when it comes to pricing old SJ stuff.

Tanks was why I turned my back in SJG.

For those who havent heard the story, I submitted a proposal for adding armored military grade vehicled to Car Wars, and the rules needed to play them if so desired.  I got a nasty little rejection letter stating that "Military armored vehicles had no place in the CW universe and never would!"

18 months later CW: Tanks! hit the shelves.  Written by this joke of a dude I knew in the same town I was going to university in.  Craig "dammit" Sheely!  We were over at his house one day because a guy I gamed with was a friend of his, and I asked him when he started work on Tanks, and he said SJG hired him to produce it roughly 3 or 4 months after they had told me it had no place in the CW universe.

Granted the rules are different than mine, because they didnt forward him my game.  just asked him to crank one out.

but I cant help but feel they stole my idea.  That was back before there was such a thing as IP lawsuits.  Plus I was like 19 or 20 and obviously was naive.

that was the last time I bought anything form SJG unless it was used from another person where I could relatively expect they made no money off me.

after all these years though I really would love to take a look at 6th Ed CW.  though its probably disappointing, as all remakes of fond memories seem to be.

Didn't know this, but sadly I can't say I'm surprised... I bet it happens more times than we know...

Sorry.

I’m sure you are right!

Most game companies have a “small print” disclaimer you have to agree to when submitting a game or a proposal, it states that the minute they take possession of it, THEY own it, not you. I think the phrase they use is “becomes the property of” whoever they happen to be. Most wont accept it if you copywrite it first either.

But look on the bright side: Tanks was considered the beginning of the end for Car Wars. The first bad decision in a game crushing string of them. I can rest easy knowing I wasn’t a part of killing the game!

Unless my proposal was the trigger event. In which case they paid the price for listening to me! Lol.

Not yet.  I tried to support them on Kickstarter but original gaslands got canceled and they did the reboot or whatever so I never got my copy.  I also never had to pay so that’s cool too.

I assume it’s decent if your asking?

YES!!! If you ever used Hot Wheels/Matchbox and played 3x Car Wars then you've used the 'minis' already. :-) It's based on using those cars and you can mod them if you want, of course. It's VERY fast and VERY 'beer and pretzels,' but all the FUN of Car Wars is there too (unless to you the fun is the spreadsheet manipulation - LOL).

I am running games on Slack, if you're interested..

I actually started making my own N Scale (original Car Wars 1" car sizes) version on 2 occasions. planning on self publishing it and all that, but never got very far in the design process. With 2 toddlers and working 12 hours a day 5-6 days a week and 2 side businesses, plus eBay... not much free time! lol. So never finished.

I'll have to look into Gaslands. And Slack. It would be fun to play a real physical game with real humans.

I've tried Gaslands. Not bad.

Not sure about the new CW's...minis look ridiculous of what I've seen.

Rules seem overly complicated.

Too bad.

Wonder if they'll have Boat Wars? :D
