Ok guys I did a comparison of three engines, in identical Pho's from a standing start on tarmac/asphalt. Here are the results.

Turn 4l 3.2L V8 3L Rotary
1 14 16 14 mph
2 25 27 25
3 32 35 31
4 38 43 38
5 44 50 44
6 51 57 50
7 57 64 56
8 62 71 62
9 68 77 68
10 73 84 73
11 79 90 78
12 84 96 83
13 89 99 88
14 92 104 91
15 96 106 95
16 98 111 97
17 102 116 100
18 105 121 105
19 107 125 109
20 110 130 113
21 115 133 117
22 119 135 121

As you can see from the data the 3.2L V8 accelerates slightly quicker to 50MPH than the others, but after that all 3 engines are basically exactly the same acceleration wise. The 3L rotary seems to accelerate slightly better after 100MPH.

I also tried a climbing test using apaches. All 3 engines climb hills at the same rate.

I also tried a toughness test by shooting the engines in a unarmoured pho chassis. The 3L rotary is definitely the toughest taking an average of 12 mg shots to zero the engine. The 4L took an average of 7 shots and the 3.2L V8 took an average of 5.

So the best engine for Rammers or combat is the 3L rotary for its toughness and less bulk and weight, closely followed by the 4L.
The best engine for racing would be the 3.2L V8 for its marginally better acceleration to 50mph.

Conclusion

Overall the 3 engines are pretty much identical in power, so choice would come down to more price and availability. The 5 less bulk of the Rotary or V8 would definitely benefit muscle cars.

Well done, nice to know.

Was the test 3 cars lined up drag style and different drivers?

or

Independent with the same driver?

A tyre comparison would be interesting.

the three cars were lined up drag race style, with three identical stat drivers(in every stat), I carried out both tests 5 times, all cars were fitted with reinforced tires.....I will do a tire test shortly :cyclops:

Thanks for the incredible engine comparison. I have often wondered just how much difference there is between them.
Your test seems super thorough, thanks again.

I think you're right, I might be remembering the results wrong though. Ive been looking back to posts from 2010 and they all match this one.
